Sebastian's Monaco Helmet

And heat activated color changing paint for the girl's swimsuit makes it disappear during the race. Pretty freakin trick.

Just what happens to Vettle's old hats? They genuinely must cost him a fortune.

Or do Pepe jeans and Red Bull pay for them .After all look at all the publicity pics that get taken of them.

I get the feeling he isn't too concerned about how much a custom paint job costs with the money he makes...

The helmet themselves are crazy expensive, i've read 20k.... Vettel is one of the few f1 drivers that has a new helmet all the time...

Sebs helmets cost $4k base, he uses a all carbon fiber Arai GP6, the paint for the most part is b/w $1500-$3500. so on average his lids are $8K.

Seb is supplied the helmets by his sponsor and he is personally sponsored by Jens as is Felipe, Nico, Mark, and Fernando. and so are all of the Red Bull development drivers, at least the ones that dont use Bell helmets. Bell has its own european helmet painting division.

Seb generally gets a new helmet for each GP but not all the time, Jens has more than just one customer. Once Seb wins a GP in a particular helmet it is then retired to his personal collection (I can only imagine what that must look like with all those 1st place trophies and helmets) This Monaco helmet marks over 50+ that JMD has done for Seb since he was 18.

here is Jason Fowler's lid for Lewis and Paul.

here are some lids done by Geert Koop of Koop Kustoms, he is on the same level of talent as Jens, no question. lids for this years 24hrs of le mans for factory Audi pilots Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treuluyer.

Having just watched the replays of Practice 2 on Thursday, I noticed the girl on the back of Seb's helmet is only too visible, from the on-board camera shots. Am looking forward to seeing the tits on Sunday - if the disappearing paint thing is true......

All the helmet designs in this thread are simply amazing. I wish our top MX riders were allowed the creativity to have something like that like the old days.

There's waaaaaaaaay more money in F1 but I agree. Would be nice to see some sick lids at major stops. Talk about the publicity it would get.

I'd still like to know how they got that print on the crown of Seb's helmet. There's just so much detail you can get with an air-brush. That's clearly a photograph transfer but I've been out of the helmet painting business for a while. Really interested to know how it was done.

Great work.

Love the Lotterer and Tag helmets.

How do you know so much about helmets Seth? Are you in the industry?

nah my dude, just a huge passion of mine. I would take a custom painted helmet from one of the top guys over a picasso or monet any day. unless its one worth $50mil. Wink

Its been something that Ive followed since I was in 3rd grade starting with Tony Stewart in sprint cars and MC in SX.

my favorite painters in no order are...

Air Trix (USA)
Jens Munser Designs (Germany)
Koop Kustoms (Netherlands)
Antman Helmet Design (Australia)
Helmart Helmet Design (New Zealand)

Cool video.

Any insight as to how they transfer the photo onto the helmet?

With Seb's helmet, that's clearly a photograph and not handwork or airbrush.

All the other stuff can be done using traditional methods...albeit not traditional paint. haha

A lot of it is done with water transfers. Just like we had for our models as kids... Only better. Most of the helmet industry uses them for all the graphics applied to the stock helmets.

Seth, I used to laugh at the valuations of art works in the past, then one day I just happened to choose to go into the National Gallery off Trafalgar Sq in London (FREE after all so why not?) and I just wandered in to room with one of Van Gogh's versions of 'Sunflowers' on the wall. My jaw hit the floor and I turned to the wife and said "O.K. I get it now. If I had £14 million*, I'd have it!" she agreed. The real thing is absolutely stunning in the flesh.

* one of them had just sold for £14 Mill.

In support of Wings For Life. The Spinal Cord Injury Research that RedBull supports tremendously! You can see their logos all over the drivers helmets / cars etc etc. Obviously that one is very personal and really hits home for me.

It is just another item on the long list of why i bleed RedBull Cool

The top is not airbrushed, it's photo transfer.
Cool helmet though

Really!! 100% paint. The vettel helmet is 90-95% printer/plotter.
