Speculating is so much fun! I know Dowd is a machine, but he has had some extremely impressive finishes well into the sunset of his career that nobody was expecting. It could happen for Travis and he isn't even that old. It would be awesome to see him come out elbows up with some aggression.

If he doesnt have any crashes, your assumption is waaayyy off. Travis is fast. Either way, i think he really does look faster now than he was then, go preston!

hope they interview him at some point and he is as funny as he used to be

his humor is as dry as a popcorn fart

I'm pulling for the guy and think he'll do well, his mental strength is to his advantage

I think his age will help him endurance wise. I say he passes his way into the top ten in each moto in the last 3 laps or so.

I think his starts will be sketchy due to the "oh shit, these guys are nuts" feeling he will have going through the first turn.

He will be the top placing yamaha rider.....strump it!

Man... in order to get top 10 Preston has beat factory riders. Beating Dean Wilson at an REM race right after Dean came back from injury is impressive, but that is not the track or rider he will be facing come Hangtown.
You have never raced REM I guess. That track is brutal and pros do 30 minutes and 20 minutes.

Last time I saw him race a national was Colorado around 2006 or so, and the best he could do then was a distant 5th in one moto, and when I say distant i mean half a lap back, so I don't see him anywhere better than a lap down this weekend. So where does that put him, 15th or so?
Pretty sure I nailed it!

One lap down, 15th place, exactly as predicted!

It's pretty pathetic that he beat both of his teammates. Regardless of Brayton's misfortune, it's still irritating. Travis is a great rider and is solid, but Grant and Brayton are supposed to be up there and putting that Yamaha in the top 10, in both SX and MX. They both mucked their first round up. A lot of other riders could do better with those bikes, and these guys aren't getting the job done. Their supercross/motocross seasons sucked and have sucked for several years.

My opinion isn't meant to offend anyone. It's just what I honestly think. From a business perspective, these guys are wasting $$, time, and resources. Brayton and Grant are good riders, but when will anyone get the idea that these guys just aren't going to put it together.

Look at the riders ahead of heavily supported riders. It's sad. It's bad business.

A good example is like at Peick who barely has anything but gets it done, but I don't want to be bashing riders

Peick is a perfect example. And there are many more like him that could fill the void. I don't mean to "bash" riders but when an old man (an awesome old man) beats 2 of Yamaha's premiere riders both motos, well... come on.

However, I think it's more likely that he'll end up 10th to 15th.

He was riding today at Comp. Edge and going at a good pace!

Isn't he racing to develop and test the 2014 yamaha 450?

I'd pick up the pace too if some old man came in and was better at my job than me within the first 30 minutes.

Agreed. I wasn't thinking of 17th as a insult to Preston either.
I was a big fan of him and was excited he was doing this.
The field being so deep I just couldn't imagine him shaking off the rust and doing better then that.

I believe he is racing the bike that Lamay is suppose to race at these nationals?
So maybe since Lamay is nursing a knee injury maybe Preston will continue on for another round.

Yeah, that would be cool, I didn't think he would be the top jar guy.....but he was. Hopefully he will do a few more. Smile
