billy payne???
we were always routing for him to be able to get the support he deserved, and with blackfoot honda, that came close. the dude was a glass cannon though. i remember a race back near our hometown for the wild west series in elko nv, track people put haybales on the whoops for practice and jims peg clipped one and he broke his wrist. i remember running up to him and he's holding his arm and it looks like his wrist is limp in 2 places...like a double bend. clearly broken in half and he's crying to his dad 'no, no, just tape it i can still ride!' badass mofo at 12yrs old lol to this day, ive never seen a rider control a bike with the throttle pinned as much as he did. it was phenomenal to watch, and being a few years older, very depressing being smoked by a kid that couldn't touch the ground when his bike stopped moving lol

Mid 80's SoCal badasses I grew up idolizing.....
Pascarella's kid has been killing it in the 600 class
Jeff is a good dude (as stated, is a Fireman in he Antelope Valley) just sold his Suzuki 450 to my buddy a couple months ago.
I recall rumors back in the late 80's that Willie sued Suzuki and got some big settlement because Suzuki basically screwed him and did not honor (or pay?) out his contract bonuses? He won the 125 West SX title in 87 I think and the next year they backed out on his deal? Not sure if true or what the other side of the story was, we did not have internet or Vital (or even cell phones) back then so information was pretty hard to get.
I am glad to hear they are all doing well and their kids are on it now! Willie and Mike were probably my 2 favorite dudes to watch ride, many they would battle it out like no tomorrow.
On 80s back there there were a few kids who were hauling but never did much on the big bikes...... Bubba Erickson, Steven Kotajarvi (The Flyin Finn), etc. I need to dig into my old SoCal MX magazines that they use to distribute at the races back then.
Thanks again for the info!
