don't see what the big deal is, but they could have gone w/ Larocco's Leap, by Lucas Oil

That's no worse than the litany of sponsors the riders have to recite every time they get on the box

They could call it 'LaRocco's Lucas Oil Lubed Up Leap of Love' and have weddings on the take off. Someone will fuss reguardless. I figure if Mike's ok with it then it's all good.

we contemplate what it will take to get the sport to the next level or mainstream. as the sponsors jump on board, there is going to be some changes ... some we will like and some we will not like.

larocco's leap will always be larocco's leap, gravity cavity will always be that, the elevator at gainesville will always be that, and mcoy's mound at sunshine speedway will always be that. if they change the name, and you know the original name, then you are core motocross.

10 years ago, i never dreamed that we would have mx on live network on a major holiday, with live internet coverage also. i'll bet davey coombs could vision it

i keeping with the theme of this thread, ive known davey for 10 years now.

he is a fan that is a business man, and a business man that is a fan. he returns phone calls and emails and displays the common courtesies that one must have whether you are running an mx program or selling widgets. he's gone out of his way for me several times and i'm an absolute nobody. there was nothing in it for him.

i never had a doubt that the sport would have a bright future with DC involved.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have used that analogy as I just contradicted my own post from before. Pinch

I just thought the "coke zero" name was kinda funny and ironic.

Agreed

Who gives a shit, really?

Is it really that big a deal?

People piss and moan and whine and cry if you make the slightest change to anything.

For all of you and your "tradition" bullshit, how many of you are on air cooled two-strokes with two shocks and open face helmets?

OH?

That many?

Then STFU

Just like some of us refuse to call the MXDN, the MXON... its no big deal. If you've noticed, Weege is often "explaining' things on the broadcasts most of "us" would already know, to make it more mainstream, and attract people unfamiliar with the sport. Kinda like explaining it to your new chick that doesn't ride...

Let me get this straight . The Weege does this for the babes?

Funny thing... the Pepsi 400 is called the Coke Zero 400 now.

I think I'll still call it the Pepsi 400 though, because that's what a core NASCAR fan would do.

Or, I might just call the Nextel Tower the Winston Tower.

In other words, who gives a shit what they sell the rights to for TV coverage as long as the sponsors keep putting money into this little league sport of ours.

Just be happy that it's on TV and the show is good.
Hell , I still remember it as , " The Firecracker 400."Wink

You beeches need to go out and enjoy the 4th and stop saying the same shit you wrote nearly 2 years ago!

I wrote what I needed to and left it in place. There is no "I know something and ain't tellin." It's always been there to read. I think you guys keep doing this because you are lazy and want something to respond to, and then you can say "don't bring it up again asshole..." Then you want to repeat it and say the same things. Repeat, etc

WSR, I don't have a ship to sink. I work on things that go up. Way the fuck up. (until the budget changes! haha)

Your vague accusations have been observed with a microscope.

They are hollow, petty and would be better served by saying you're not telling the whole story to protect your friends like you did a few months ago.

Otherwise, we are left to just assume you were in Youthstream's pocket and bet on the wrong horse.

Straight, point taken on being careful with the traditions, by the way. I will make sure they think that through more next time this concept comes up.... Renaming the "Holy Schmit" even for a day would not go over well with anyone, including myself.

By the way, I floated the idea of renaming the Chamberlain Cup for the MX des Nations "the DeCoster Cup" because he's won it more as a rider and a team manager than anyone -- by miles. But even though Mr. Chamberlain wasn't a multi-time world champ or anything, the idea got zero traction, and I certainly understand why.

I don't know about DC but from the interactions I have had with the people at MX Sports I have been very pleased, quick responses and very friendly.

TFS still ain't over it.. how amusing.

He still says the truth.. but never reveals what the truth is.

Are we so blind we can't see that DC has a huge stake in the business? Do we think that DC makes changes only to benefit his own tracks and/or mag business, etc.?

I don't think we are that stupid. I also don't think, only being able to observe what's in front of us, that DC has made decisions that only has benefited himself. I think his decisions has benefited the sport as a whole.

I'll nut lick.. DC is the best person for MX...my only wish is that he could wrangle control of the SX series too!

Larocco's Leap.. if you remember the last year was called the "parking lot jump" or something similar to that. When I watched the race and heard them say the Lucas Oil leap I knew right then.... Vital would be hoppin! Does it matter? I don't think so, but a mention of the history of the jump would of been neat. I'll always call it Larocco's Leap anyway. If it brought in some sponsor $$, good on them.

Every July 4th I am stuck at the family reunion in Puxico, MO. Since my grandparents only have the local broadcast stations, it was a huge pleasure to turn on NBC and watch a recap of Moto 1 and all of Moto 2 live. Thank you DC!

When we were hanging out at the track Friday afternoon, someone brought that "parking lot jump" up to Fro and he said, "Oh, you mean Emig's Leap?" It was pretty damn funny.

Okay, back to work. Anyone know a big company that wants to sponsor Team USA?

Weege did mention that it used to be called Larocco's Leap and added something about what he was doing now.

There's a big company in Europe who would love to sponsor Team USA. They're loaded too.

Youth-Team or something like that.

I agree, DC is good people. Wish he'd been running things about 15 years ago.

Seeing the topic title I just knew that Steve would have to jump in with a trailer for Octopus-gate. Bruhn, every post you make on DC, MX Sports, etc, just reinforces many of the negative perceptions people have had about you over the years. I wish you would stop (for your own sake). You don't seem to be able to control the impulse. Nobody cares about your tempest in a teapot anymore. Ancient history.
