I like this video.....hes rippin on that 250!!! I have wondered why we haven't seen him at a big event.....he comes from great MX genes and obviouly has some of Pops' talent!

I'm assuming Kent's son. I could understand his dad wanting him to focus on a career and not racing, but he is fast.

NO matter how fast you are on a 2 stroke, even if you are faster than every 4 stroke on the track, i think no big company is ever going to sponsor you, because they all want you to ride their four-strokes.

Derek is Kent's son. I've had the pleasure of meeting them both on a couple of occasions out at Cycle Ranch (the track in the video).

As fast as he looks in the video, its even crazier in person. In addition to being silly fast, Derek and his father are some of the nicest, most friendly and humble folks you could hope to meet.

If you are ever in TX, you have to ride at Cycle Ranch. Perhaps the best dirt you could hope to find for MX. As you see in the video...its a fast, wide open track. Before that back section you see in the video changed configurations, 5th gear pinned on a 450 was not uncommon among the faster guys. (heck, maybe it still is...but not for this guy!)

He seemed a little lazy in the corners at first, but after a couple minutes he was rippin'!

Exactly! Rumor on the block was he wanted his son to go to college and graduate before he could race an actual pro season. I saw him out at heath voss' house a while back and the dude was legit on an sx track! And this was like 3-4 years ago when he was an intermediate.

the vids been posted a few times but i remember someone saying his dad bought him that 250 smoker after his 4-stroke (crf??) blew up and he just got pissed and got all 2-strokes. i dont think it was for lack of maintaining them either..

his bike is a 250 sx with a 300 kit on it. He used to ride a 250 crf but after blowing it in to pieces a couple of times Kent decided to go 2 strokes. Kent rides a 300 XC and he still hauls ass!!

very fun to watch and to get passed by Dereck while scrubbing the bike so sideways its sick!

Oh and the track is not flat at all, it has some nice hills, but you need to ride it to feel it! And yes, Kent wants him to gradute and just ride for fun.
