Honda's lack of 450 titles has more to do with their riders than their equipment. When they had the best riders (MC, RC, Bailey, Staton, etc) they dominated!

In the past decade they haven't had the top riders and therefore don't have the titles....if you didn't have Stewart, Reed, RC, RV, or Dungey on your bike...you didn't win a big bike title in the past decade. That is the more telling stat that when the last title was won.

Why is that? I'll put the blame squarely on the management...there was no reason in the world they let RC go. There was no reason in the world they let MC go. And they've got pockets deep enough that they could have signed Reed, Stewart, in the past 10 years, and won titles.

Their bikes are as good as anything else...Reed liked them enough in '10 to ride them privateer...Short liked it enough that he was a top 10 guy on a full privateer 450...

I blame management, not the equipment for Honda's lack of titles. And any smart person will too.

Honda didn't kill the 2 stroke. If you want to blame someone blame Yamaha and the dirtbike buying public (us). Yamaha provided us the first competitive 4 stroke mxer and we the buying public helped to kill the 2 stroke because we all had to run out and get this new technology. We started buying 4 strokes and the manufacturers simply gave us, the buying public, what we wanted which was 4 stroke dirtbikes. Now, as is human behavior, we want to blame someone else and point the finger at someone else for those evil Japanese making us buy 4 strokes. I don't believe anyone from Honda ever came to someone's house and held a gun to their head and forced them to go buy a 4 stroke dirtbike, they simply provided us what we wanted right along with all the other manufacturers. If we're going to point the finger at someone point it at ourselves and point it at Yamaha. Yamaha some how gets a pass on this because they "keep making" 2 strokes all though it's the same damn bike since 2006 with a minor tweak here and there with BNG but we give them a pass because "at least they still make 2 strokes." They don't "still make 2 strokes" they keep recycling 7 year old dirtbikes. Anyone who runs down to their local Yamaha shop and buys a brand new YZ 250 is bat ass crazy and I'm puttin myself in that category because in 2009 I ran down to my local Yamaha shop and plunked down way too much for a "brand new" YZ 250 2 stroke. Get over it, we the dirtbike riding public did this and we're simply getting what we wanted years ago when Yamaha gave us a competitive 4 stroke dirtbike.
I think all the Honda haters here will totally miss your very valid points....

Imagine the outpouring of disgust if Honda actually won the supercross champsionship this year, it would be unbearable here with all the hate.

Hondas playing "money ball" these days. They've figured out having a winning rider doesn't mean shit in terms of sales.

Mr. Honda is like this "Yo Bro-San, let's spend some of that profit these next 2 years, and win another 450 championship. Then we will hoard the cash for another decade."

yep, thats exactly right.

Same with magazines shootouts, people who are savvy enough know Honda's are reliable, good parts pricing, excellent part availability, lots of dealers, good contingency programmes.

Sure they have their faults as do all bikes. Sure they might not have the peak HP numbers of one or two others. Sure they dont make 2-strokes (like Kawasaki and Suzuki). But if all of that stops anyone buying one then that is everyones own choice. And if all of that makes people hate Honda (and call them a parasite - WTF?) then good on them, it wont stop those who like them from buying them.

Never understood why Honda gets so much hate from people. That company is the leader of the big four, and dumps more money into these M/C series worldwide than any other manufacturer. Sure they are the biggest, and they want to win, but the only reason these race series listen to what Honda has to say, is because there probably wouldnt be a race series without them..
Honda gets hated on for a few reasons...

1. They have consistently made a GREAT product since forever. Decade in and decade out, their reputation has never taken a hit. whereas Suzuki has had some rough years, Yamaha's current bike has been a PR disaster, and Kawi did themselves no favors by taking so long with their thumpers. Everyone tends to hate the guy on top and that has been Honda more often than not.

2. Honda has a TON of influence within racing. The FIM might as well be a branch of Honda. And just like any company that has a heavy influence on the sanctioning body that is there to police them, Honda abuses its power to the detriment of racing purists. Let's be honest, Honda isnt doing anything that any other OEM would be doing in the same situation. Kawasaki did it in JetSki racing. Ferrari does it in F1. etc etc etc.

3. Honda fans are annoying. In fact, any blind fan base that cant shut up about how great their favorite product (or athlete) is... is usually going to take a lot of heat. Example? Bubba. There's nothing to hate about the guy. But people find reasons to because his fan base is about as annoying as it gets.

Disclaimer: I own a Honda. Im a Bubba fan.

Honda's are reliable: yes they are but not more then other brands, that's just myth, they WHERE more reliable then other brands 'WHERE' . They do seem to keep that reputation tho.(and good for them, i don't hate Honda)

Good parts pricing: They are not cheaper then others, if that is what u mean

Excellent part availability: true fact but not better then any other brand over here

Lots of dealers: True fact, u can go anywhere with a Honda, but that's like most other Jap bikes.

And to answer Racerx930: They dumped a shitload of effort on the branding over decades.
It seems like they are satisfied with the current reputation and exposure, and that's good for them.
Why dump more money into it when u reached a goal in sales and popularity, it's not like their only program is off-road racing. I guess they think more money and market share is better to be gained somewhere else these days.

Uuuuuuuuuuuum..........No.lol Though honda hasn't had a top 3 rider and even the top 4 bike I think they are going to break the top 3 with maby jb.Tmac or tc. I hope not though cause I just dont like the CO. for there attack on offroading and support of the waco greenies. Anyone that buys a honda (new) is helping attack the offroaders.
