Good ole, Mulholland Hwy, just after the Rock Store, right before turn out at the top. That road is notorious for causing accidents.

I haven't even watched the video.
Countersteer applies to motorcycles, not cars.
I didn't know the video was about cars.

Counter steering is when you steer right to turn left because the rear end is drifting. So yes it applies to cars, too.
Under steering is when you don't steer enough.
Over steering is when you steer too much.

he just ran with it. the guy in the video was turning left and faded right, his output was less than his input IE: understeer

he wanted to get technical and missed the whole point

Sorry, boys...I stand corrected.

Actually countersteer applies to bikes. Oversteer applies to cars. Same basic thing, though.

Edit: DEAR GOD. Understeer is when your front wheels lose traction, but your rear wheels stay in tact. Your car will start to push wide. Oversteer is when your rear wheels lose traction and you go into a drift. Your front tires keep traction.

When you turn your bars to the right on a bike you go left - When traveling in a straight line - No rear wheel drifting - Test that one out !

I understand counter steering a bike. I've rode street bikes for years. But to say it doesn't apply to a car is wrong.

OVERSTEERING

UNDERSTEERING

COUNTER STEERING - Pay attention to the front wheels. Steering left to make a right hand turn.

COUNTER = OPPOSITE Think productive; counterproductive. Act; counteract. Counter means doing the opposite of what would normally be done. You turn right to initiate the turn, then when the rear end starts drifting you COUNTER STEER(steer the opposite direction, which would be left) to maintain course.

EDIT: I'm not disagreeing about motorcycle counter steering. I'm just saying it applies to any vehicle. And your front/rear tires don't have to lose traction for understeer or oversteer. If you don't steer enough to make the curve, that's understeer. If you keep steering after you've completed a turn, you have oversteered.

I am not talking about counter steering - The Normal and correct action for this rider would have been to turn his handlebars to the right and he would have gone left and avoided the cyclist - He had problems with his balance point but that would have all changed had he turned his bars to the right - ( I am not sure that many people realise/understand this? ) Debated too often - The best way to explain is for a motorcyclist to go and try it - Ride in a straight line - Turn the handlebars without leaning - Either way and note which way the motorcycle turns - The result will then be the answer :-)

In Motorcycle Rider Training crash avoidance techniques teach this method.

Speedway bike as you state correctly counter steer a lot - Counter the effects of the rear wheel wanting to overtake the front wheel.

It baffles me this is even a debate..

That's exactly what I said. Counter steer equals steering left to go right and visa versa. I'm not debating it as it applies to motorcycles. I'm just pointing out that it DOES apply to cars, IF the rear end gets loose. There seems to be confusion between oversteer and counter steer. You're suggesting he turn the bars right to go left to miss the cyclist, and you are correct, but the term IS counter steer. Again counter means opposite. Turn right to go left like I've said all along. Regardless, that guy was too scared to throw the bike over, drag a knee, and go on with his day.

Yeah the one with the white pants ...

Car - If you rotate the steering wheel counter clockwise the car turns left

Bike - If you rotate the handlebars clockwise the bike turns left

Both with no loss of rear wheel traction

...no the sky is most certainly not green. I'm pretty sure its plaid. ^^^^^^^ Nicely done BTW.

Hey...Look how much I know about understeer, oversteer, and up-side-down-steer. Don't I get something for being this smart.

Three things:

1. That motorcycle rider freaking sucks! Understeer/oversteer - whatever the hell you want to call it WAS NOT INVOLVED. That guy just freaking plowed them because he is a garbage rider. He had plenty of time to back it down, or turn into the corner more.

2. I feel like that cyclist was a bit too dramatic, but that's what I expected. He was whimpering like he broke both femurs. Get it together brother.

3. I'm not 100% sure about this, but that brunette chic looked to me to be fine ass hell. However, by the way she was acting and just moving around in general, I get the impression that she can be pretty salty on occasion.
