Alright, I just came across some super old family photos and I thought this could be a cool thread.
What is your family motorsports history?

This is my great great grandfather and some of his brothers and friends.

Here is my grandfather in 2012. He is still a badass. He builds Triumph Bonnevilles' to run at Speed Week. He broke the record last year for 1960's Singles and is looking good to break it again this fall.

My Dad did not ride but my uncle was really into Sand Drags...

Then myself of course. Started on a JR50 (although a little too big at this point).

Followed by some years of Jet Ski racing through High School and College.

To present day, just plain ol' moto for fun.

My Dad:

One of my uncles:

Two of my three uncles roadraced as well as just riding on the road. Before them it was all a bit too much povertytown for anyone to have cars or motorcycles.

I don't have any family history I was the first to race moto.

My first bike in 1996, it didn't get raced.

Me in 2001, it didn't get raced either.

I don't have any pictures, but my dad and uncle started racing in the 80's. They were local experts in NY. Pretty sure they tried to qualify at Unadilla and Broome, maybe more than once. Fond memories. No pics on my computer. But my own moto ancestry started with this 88 PW50 in the picture below. I got it for Christmas when I was only 2. I rode it and raced it. Moved on to other bikes. My brother would go on to ride it next. I'll never forget the first time he did. It was at my uncles house. There was a plowed field next to his yard. Really choppy. The bike had a huge fat pipe on the back. It was a Dynoport pipe. My brother got on, grab the throttle and didn't know how to turn or stop. Ran it right into that field and tipped it over. That pipe burned his leg and he came back screaming at my dad saying he tried to kill him and that he'd never ride that thing again. Well he did. Next was my little cousin. He started racing it probably around 2003. Now he's looking to qualify a second year at LL in Supermini. And finally, the last little guy to ride it is my little brother Connor. There's 19yrs. between us, but he's starting on the same PW50 I did. Pretty cool. He now has KTM.

So the next recipient of the 88 PW...

is this little guy. He's almost 2. Looking to get a Strider balance bike soon. It's been fun. He loves bikes. As for me, my bikes include a 96 KX60, then a 01 KX125, then I rode an 01 YZ450F, and now I have the 09 KX250F - the first bike I've ever bought myself.

Now THIS is a great thread! That V8 gasser is badass PDub, and your dad was even more badass for riding that beast!

I'm literally the only person to ride a motorcycle in my extended family and my son is now the only sibling to ride. These vintage pics make me wish I had a history like that. Very cool.

Awesome thread. I'll have to look back into the family photos because I know we've got some old pictures similar to the ones posted.

Here's my dad...

He was a local pro in the 70's that raced a lot of nationals and trans ams. He road for the Yamaha support team and said they gave him a factory cylinder for one race and it was a night and day difference. But then he had to give it back.

I was one apple that fell pretty far from the tree. I started on a PW50 and had my first race on a KX 60. I never made it out of the C class but could always do good at mud races and got a lot of holeshots but that's as far as my racing career would take me.

It's cool hey. He's a right mad old bastard. This is my favourite picture of it.

I had a cousin who was very good at motocross in the 1970s as well. He was killed racing though and the only photos are with my crazy ass Aunt.

This is my grandfather sometime mid 1960's.

Another one probably early 70's.

My fathers last dirt car before he went to asphalt with another '66 chevelle. The way I figure just half of the convertible '55 chevys they cut up for the stronger frames would be worth millions. Lets not discuss all the muscle cars...

Not sure if this was his first "race" bike or not, but this is my father late 70's

I think at this point he realised that unlike stock cars bigger was not always faster...

My second bike. CR60 sometime in 1986. It was passed on to my younger brother.

This is me after a spectacular holeshot, and my brother, on the ground...lol

My son, he is about three months in this picture, it is his first trip to the track. Two weeks before he was born my wife was pitting for me at a harescramble in the heat of June.

FULLY awesome thread!

My "moto ancestry" started with my older bro and I begging my dad to let us get an old beat up trail bike. My dad HATED bikes, he calls them murdercycles. Me and my big brother got into it, and now me and my younger brother race as much as we can, and my daughters are also starting to feel the passion!

Smile

Oh, by the way, OP - you are running my #!!! I ran 717 for years, but I took 117 this past summer.
