Dungey?

The Dungey pass on Villopoto: Was that Villopoto being conservative or has The Dunge turned up the aggressive meter?

What pass are you asking about? The picture you posted is Villo making an aggressive pass back on Dungey.

I think it's proof that if Dungey would get more aggressive, more often and quit accepting 2nds and 3rds and "keep plugging away and taking it one step at a time and focusing on the big picture" that he could really put it to RV. He's just gotta get up there and mix it up with him and stop relying on consistency to win championships. Consistency is good. Winning is good. Consistently winning = Championship, every time. That race was great, and I don't think we've seen the best of RD just yet. I just hope he starts mixing it up with these guys and getting aggressive so people will stop putting * by his name on the list of champions.

Dungey hunted RV down and took that win straight up. That said, I wonder how much that hometown crowd played into his confidence level, not to mention mess with RV. If Dungey could harness whatever he had last saturday, this series would be even more insane.

You should never ever value the opinion of people who put an * by there name. They have zero intelligence and can not accept the fact that there rider got hurt crashing on his motorcycle which is part of the game, which means for that title they were not as good as whatever rider won because they crashed there motorcycle and took THEMSELVES out of the title hunt.

RV isn't dumb, he doesnt hang it out unless he needs too. He would make mince meat of Dungey if need be.

Plain and simple Dungey was faster that night..and that little leprechaun was on the verge of throwing out the Allesi leg to hold him back..I'm sure the ginger kid will come out swinging next race.

How in the hell are you going to preach about the intelligence of anyone when every post you make is a run-on sentence full of elementary grammar mistakes?

Their*, bro. There are two of them. Don't preach about intellect.

I think if anything people are underestimating how much the track played into Dungey's favor at MN. The faster lines were on the insides and you couldn't really slide the back end through the corners like you could in Houston.

Speaking of Dunge...there is a new video series coming up by "Target" that spotlights their athletes. Looks like it should be pretty cool, trailer:

Target presents, "The Way Up," a new series profiling six athletes including motocross champion Ryan Dungey, surfers Kolohe Andino and Carissa Moore, skateboarder Paul Rodriguez, and freeskiers Rosalind Groenewoud and Torin Yater-Wallace. Directed by Steve Berra, each episode focuses on one of the Target athletes, showcasing their rise to the top while pinpointing what each felt to be his or her exact breakthrough moment as a professional. The first episode, featuring Ryan Dungey, premieres April 30, 2013, with a new episode dropping alternating Tuesdays.

He did a great job of being aggressive after the first corner, 5th to 2nd in lap 1. Now RV is only 2 seconds in front. This is how you beat a Villopoto, if you have RD's speed . Previously (last 6 races) by the time RD gets in 2nd RV is 8 seconds up. Everyone knows this except for the RV morons on vital. Even if you have RV speed you can not spot him 4-8 seconds. Two seconds no big deal as Dungey proved last race.

Let me add, same situation in outdoors, they have both caught each other toward race end. More often then not the guy in second has the advantage at that point. Bottom line, RV and RD are in a league of their own, I just hope they can both stay at the top of their game because it sure is great to watch. I try to ignore the 25% of RV fans that have no clue, but it is hard.

I love how Dungey has a good race at his home track, and now he and RV are equal. And you call RV fans morons.

Dungey was actually a better sx rider on a 250f, he just had some bad luck or he would have had 3 250 sx titles.

I dont think RV is that much faster, Dungey just needs a start, or to move through the pack quicker. He is the slowest of the top guys at getting throuhg the pack.

I meant he was a better 250 supercross racer than Villopoto, some of that might have been because of his style, RV was on th ground a bit on the 250...

people remember the J-Law meltdown, but they dont remember his rookie year where Dungey won I think 3 races and could have had another before Beef cleaned him out from the other lane.

Poto being conservative? Cruise control? RD5 does have a couple of nick names like... "The Machine" "Locomotive". There's a reason for that. If anyone was on cruise control last weekend, it must have been from third place on - 17.4 seconds behind at checkered flag. Great Race!

This.

I think RV fought the good fight but Dungey was putting it on strong. He could have taken Dungey down at the risk of crashing out. 2nd was better than crashing out. Good strategy.

All that said. It was the best we've seen of Dungey this year. I hope he goes strong the rest of the year.

Just saw the race and it was AWESOME. Pretty much the Ryan V. Ryan experience we've been waiting for since A1 2010, as far as SX goes. Like St. Louis of that year but with roles reversed and excitement that lasted all 20.

Dungey was definitely the man this weekend. I thought Minn. being a hometown race for Dungey might result in another win, but not if he had to go through RV. Well, he did it. Ran him down and outraced him. BUT...

That crowd...a boost for Dungey and a hindrance for RV. I can't recall that sort of crowd volume lap after lap anytime recently...surely it heaped onto the pressure in the closing laps, which was already huge, and we started seeing little mistakes up front. Like at Steel City when Dungey led the whole moto but for the last 50 feet. They shake themselves apart. RV's last lap was his fastest since lap 11, though. He was rebuilding. If he'd let Ryan go by two laps earlier he would've had time for another go at him.

Brilliant race, though. I want another.

Well he definitely had the speed and by so the confidence to make a pass like that. What more do you need? After all he does ride a dirt bike at a professional level, he's not a pussy.

Post a reply to: Dungey?
