His career is winding down & I think he knows he can't afford to skip out on anymore seasons. He's pumped on the outdoors anyway and has been doing outdoor testing lately. Seems pretty obvious that he's already checked outta SX IMO.

At this point he was out of the race. It must be tough to be the Fastest Man on the Planet and ride around out of contention. He hurt his wrist, and his pride was already damaged; that combination caused him to throw in the towel; IMO.

Maybe because he was slower than RV every lap of the race up to that point? He knew that the race was already over because he can't catch the race leaders from a mid-pack start like he used to? And it had taken him half of the race to make his way by 29, 51, and 75, what makes him think he can catch and pass RD, RV, and DM in the same amount of time?

He was in 4th behind Millsaps who he had already passed earlier in the night and was faster than all day, he must not have wanted to be on the podium or collect bonus money.
