Can anyone tell me what year and models can be interchanged on the swingarm knuckle. Mine off my cr 250 1985 has literally disintegrated never seen anything like it before and all the ones I've seen on eBay seem to be for a 125 500 or different years yet all look very similar. Any help would be greatly appreciated

motosport.com list the 85 and 86 CR250 linkage as the same part number. I know that the 1986 CR's 125, 250 & 500 are all the same part so take it from there. I might have one and will check in the garage tomorrow.

I accidentally bought an 85 shock on eBay. It was listed as an 86. I have an 86. The shock clevis was larger than my 86 knuckle. About 5mm too wide. Maybe 85 knuckle uses a larger collar in the bearing.

The wishbone and where it attaches to the to the frame are different between the 85 and 86 are different as well. I did find an Ohlins from an 86 and it bolted onto the 85 just fine. The valving is way off though. So it appears that the rising rate between the years was changed.

I have never seen one corrode on the sides like that. I bet the knuckle broke because it was drilled for a grease fitting.

I've seen a few of the lower wishbone links delaminate and I've seen one break.

I have a complete 85 CR250 chassis that is torn down. I am willing to sell it all or just parts you need.

You can email me if you like and we can go from there.

Can anyone help me out here. Knuckle on the left is my original knuckle and the one on the right is one I bought off eBay which stated that it was same year and model as mine. The one on the right looks much newer model to me

Mat.the one on the left look's like it's from an 83 or 84.The one on the right is the correct part. With these bike's being older you never know what the previous owner/owner's have swapped out.Mine had an 85 swingarm,89 fork's and triple clamp's.I may be wromg on that part but it sure appear's to be 83/84 from certain photo's I've looked at.

Thanks ledger that makes sense. I thought it should be the right one given I bought it from a reputable breaker on there! Maybe that's the reason the older one was seized on there so bad. I hope the link and swingarm are the correct ones!

The one on the right is very similar to my 86's, all 86's (125, 250 & 500) are the same.

Yes and as you said earlier the parts lists state that the shock is for 85 and 86 so I was hoping would be ok. Ill mock up more closely with the linkage as it doesn't seem to match up with this new knuckle now!

Show me the chain slider on the front left side of the swing arm. That '50R' sticker looks a bit like a 1984 but stickers don't mean a lot.

:-( that's not good news. Only pic I have at the moment is this one, this is the advert pic off eBay!!!! I must've been mad lol the guy I had it off literally compiled parts as he went and I think he wasn't too clued up, not saying I'm an expert far from it but I've learned that a project like this requires far more time researching every part and knowledge from you guys is invaluable!

Am I beat biting the bull it and swapping for an 85 swingarm?

That doesn't look like a 85 swing arm. On the 1985 the chain slider wraps around the outside of the swing arm with 2 mounting screws. I often see 85's advertised as 86's and that's the first thing I check.
Maybe you need to check the chassis and engine numbers to verify which year your bike is before you go any further.

I think the motor has been described as an 85 from previous threads but please correct me if I'm wrong.

My main concern is dating the frame. The guy I bought it off assured me that he confirmed serial numbers as being an 85 but I'd like to let you guys be the judge of it as from what I've read on here the tenth digit from the right defines the date which in my case is an 'e' dating 84!!!!!

Frame number jh2me0805ec708782
Engine number 2700362 with me03e stamped on engine above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'd say that's an 85 engine as it has a later (87 or newer) two piece clutch cover. The 84 CR250 cover is a one year only.

Yes I'm happy about the engine lol. I'm trying to spot differences between 84 and 85 swingarm as they look quite similar. Graphics on mine are 'etched' on which I'm guessing means they haven't been changed and that it is an 84! Will this fit and have you any thoughts on the frame?

Hi ledger tooooo slow for my liking. Got a bunch of parts at the powdercoaters finally but money is tight at the moment the new season is starting and I've been dusting off my 250sxf so that I can get some riding in this season. With 5 kids at home and self employed architect working at nightsits hard to do everything that I would like but I've sourced a good swingarm that will clean up nicely and I've been finishing up my airbox which is looking good just waiting for my splash guard to arrive in the post then ill post finished pics.
I was tempted to sell my ktm to fund my habit but I've got to learn to be patient!!!
