they don't take 10,000 from the riders. They take it from the teams. If this is as stupid an idea as people on here want to make out then I guess the number of teams for Valkenswaard 09 would be down. Thing is, official teams for 09 have already been anounced and thats not the case is it.

If riding GPs is so financialy unfeasable for non factory riders why is it that the likes of Osbourne, Saylor and Graham find themselves in GPs? Not to mention DV returning to a privately funded team for his outdoor only ride. Wheres all the 'rich' private teams in US (where bike sales in Cali outdo the continent of Europe) when these guys need a mx ride?

Supercross is king no doubt but it seems as soon as the sx seasons ended the support is just not the same for the outdoors. Maybe people should stop critisising every YS decision and actualy pay closer attention to the detail and economic reasons behind them. theres a sound business reasoning behind their policies and evidence of change is allready apparent to those who bother to pay attention.
Team Molson stops after more than 10 years. Done. Team GPKR is gone and Jan de Groot's widow is selling and probably closing the shop. That's 3 factory-support Kawi teams, a good amount of riders, mechanics and all the rest.

Molson holdings (main Sponsor) I'm pretty sure are in administration. Mike church who owns the team has his personal money in construction (MJ Church) which is seeing its worst crisis in the UK since the 1970s. The manager of the team is going to be having a baby in January (with coppins) its hardly likely Mikes gonna want to take over managing the team with all thats on his plate, so theres some pretty clear reasons why Molson has decided to shut up shop. Are you really surprised that Jan de Groots widow, whos in her 60s would want to sell up?

You are to GPs what TFS is to the nationalsLaughing Every time someone says something positive about GPs you seem desperate to get in and slander them, regardless of any facts. Whats the deal? move on.

Running it up the flag pole at the OEM's in Japan is just asking them to rob peter to pay paul. It's not like they're going to cough up more money for dirt bike racing; if the FIM wants to take SX worldwide and make it MotoGP for dirt bikes, it's going to cost both outdoor series.

Maybe that's good, maybe that's bad, maybe it's a miscalculation and actually presents an opportunity here.
FTE,

I think the combining of the World Supercross and World Motocross is an awesome idea. It would bring back the Trans-AMA formula and give the American riders a shorter season (assuming the American riders would only do the two USGPs).

Everyone wins this way.

Seems like the Nationals are falling a little like the Golden State series did in years gone by. Hardly any GP riders go to America anymore, and the best American riders don't race the Nationals.

Seems like the pace of GP riders to the US hasn't changed too significantly. It's never been so much the volume of guys as their standing when they make the change.

For years Geoff you've been telling us that he GP guys' decision not to go was because guys didn't want to race SX and that a GP season not as long as SX and MX together was an attractive alternative to the intensity of the US season. This seems to blow that the hell out of the water.

I disagree with you about the Nationals.

In the abstract, I agree with you about how cool a world wide series with all the best would. It'll happen if the economics are there.

You never have been to the outdoors and seen how many privateers are at the races in the states huh?

Not sure what your point is but if your implying that its good for a series to have Privateers (and by that I mean people not under a team awning) Then your wrong. The goal that both Luongo and Coombs will be working towards is creating enough well funded teams to have all the series riders under a teams awning and provided with bikes. Maybe once this is achieved we can move to a situation where they are all getting paid too.

I feel that GPs are getting close to this goal despite the obviouse lack of parity in terms of salary, for those at the very front of each series (this has more to do with Supercross contracts than mx). One look at the GP non qualifiers in recent weeks and the names are not those of privateers, but well supported riders. This week guys like Saylor and Verhoeven last week Campano and Chiodi.

The way GPs are run has come under constant critisism from those in America but when some top 10 finishers in the nationals are saying they can't afford to get to the races and yet people like Mellotte (finishing often outside the top 20) are on 6 figure salaries you have to reconsider if GPs are really so badly run.

Comparing the contracts of riders in the top 10 of each series as a way of drawing light on the respective strength of the series is pointless, on account of the giant Supercross contracts. Looking further down the field is a little more revealing. Its clear that both series have a long way to go but GPs have also come a long way since DORNA and that never seems to get acknowledged.

I think this is what the whole world have been waiting for. A World Supercross series in OZ, Japan, Europe, America. Working with the FIM and listening to what YS have to offer is a great reason for all this to work.

Looks like YS USA came along at the right time. Just a thought, but how powerful would it be with YS, Life Nation and FIM all teamed up.

Just glad YS didn't win the "White Elephant" Vote.

What might be cool would be a five or so race 'Final' series involving the top 10 Americans against the top 10 FIM riders.
Bingo, and I think the manufactors are up for something like that. Five races to add to the Supercross scheduel and then scrap the AMA MX series. That is what I am hearing.

Imagine it, five races like the MXoN was in Budds Creek, new venues, big sponsorship and television. Would kick the daylights out of what you are seeing now outdoors.

I love the idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that's how I can tell you have never been to a national. The privateers are so far from what they were its amazing they are considered privateers at all.

OK I thought your point was theres a lot of privateers in American racing wich is a good thing but since i cant work out if your post 'You never have been to the outdoors and seen how many privateers are at the races in the states huh?' - (wich incidentaly is wrongo) is a question or a statement perhaps you can clarify your point.

ha ha ha, so you don't like debating I supposed Wink I wouldn't say that I'm desperate to "slander" the GP's (I have more worries to be desperate about) but I don't agree with everything in the MXGP's and the way YS runs it, like there are things I don't agree with, or would like to see changed, in the AMA MX series, but every time I see a blatant, honky dory, all is great in paradise, posts and support from you, I tend to want to reply. You have attacked the AMA Nationals, by pure partisanship, as much as I criticize the MXGP, so I don't see why you would call me desperate. I, like you, express my opinion on those series and they are opposing. That's what a debate is for. If you really think that you are going to convince anyone here, I think you're a bit off. This is a moto message board, it's a boxing ring.

So, talking about being partisan, you come up and say all is great and I underline that 3 teams are going away and we, in the US, where we practice motocross a lot and have a huge amateur scene, are very strongly in favor of privateers and anyone being allowed to try to qualify for a National race. This is for us what MX stands for: normal people getting a shot at racing with the top.
You, as I can see from your posts, are against the privateers because you just want a good, professionalized, promoter controlled show. Soon, you'll be in favor of applying the US team sports format of franchising the riders and teams and having them owned by Youthstream. We still believe every one should be able to get to race a pro race if you qualify, without having to pay 10,000 Euro per rider.

At the end of the day, your racing doesn't bring more overall than ours. It's averaging the same number of spectators but your promoter pays a fortune to have the races live on TV for a very poor audience and we have very little TV ratings too.

Which Top 10 rider in the AMA National series has stopped racing this year because he/they can't afford to go to the races?

Some riders and teams are struggling to break even, for sure. Same in the European world championship. Some make 6 figures in Europe. LOL! Same and more here.

I think more privateers and small guys make decent money from sponsors here in the US than Europe. They don't make a fortune but they live from it and they race year round.

Where on earth did you get the idea that i'd 'attacked' the AMA series??? I see your negative posts about GPs and just wan't to defend the sport. Its as if your offended by the idea tha YS would put out positive press. Thats its job! its not like they run a magazine and write there own press, they just put out press releases. Nothing to stress about. I'm sure that if I followed every MXSports press release with some kind of negative BS people wouldn't stand for it and nor should they, The nationals kick ass, same as GPs.

Why? thats bizarre lol, whats so bad about being positive? If you said something something positive about the Natioanls, would anyone feel the need to counter that with a negative post?, I hope not that would be stupid.

The American scene as far as privateers go is about the same as Europe without the 10k. Yes we do get riders like the one I helped out that pit out of a van but it's very few now. Most riders, even the privateers now fly to the races and if they are not in a rig like WWR or Atomic energy they still have a really sick set up. The Euro scene and the American's is about the same with Europe doing something’s better than America and America doing something's better than Europe with both sides being so arrogant they cant see what’s best for the MX scene which is a merger of the GP and the American series.

dude, don't say that you're not comparing the 2 series, based on what you read or hear in Europe, and paint, describe the GP as being the best.
You are the one who said teams are closing down in the US, you're the one saying all riders make money in Europe and are doing well, again in trying to compare that it is not as good in the US.
So, yes, you're partisan to your series, fine; and we are to ours. I just don't use the nice words and sound a bit more uneducated. It's still the same shit.

Don't tell me you're not comparing and making the GP look better. I am replying to your over joyful Euro post by questioning some of it. So what?

I just said that those 3 teams were going, like Moto Verte described it. Nothing else. That's all.

http://motoverte.com/site/gp-belgique-rumeurs-de-paddock-34032.html

Shenzi,

You tried to say that it's because of YS that the teams are stopping, but in fact Molson stopping has nothing to do with YS, it's as much personal as professional. Jan De Groots team is stopping, or changing over to the Pourcel ownership because Mrs De Groot doesn't want anything to do with it, and the Pourcel team is obviously stopping because they are buying the (de Groot) factory team.

Does that makes sense to you.

I totally understand and got this through the article, except the Pourcel take-over, as you can see it only says that GPKR is stopping and Mrs de Groot is trying to sell but will probably close.

I never "tried to say that it was because of YS", I showed that some teams are closing on your side too. Be it for economical reasons (like when it happens in the US), or else. Your buddy Alex just has it a bit too pink, you need to spice it with a tiny zest of reality sometimes.

But if you get the right translation and read this:

"fait que Mike Church et ses enfants aient décidé d’arrêter une aventure commencée il y a plus de dix ans est une véritable alerte, au moment même où le promoteur du mondial prévoit une réforme – voir le dernier MX Magazine – qui risque de poser de gros problèmes aux petites structures et barre définitivement l’accès des pilotes privés aux GP."

You would think that MV doesn't agree with you. There seem to be some cause and effect in that comment.

Since the title of this thread is World SX how does everyone think the top 20 GP riders will do racing 20 rounds of supercross? Do the GP riders love supercross? Will they stop racing the GP's? Will the GP's survive the injury attritition rate? Do the euro's love 90' triple jumps twice per lap? Do the 45 second lap times and 14 minute main events suite the euro style?

Shenzi i didn't just randomly come out with a rant about GPs. It was a response to yet another dig at them. I'm just busting you balls with the whole 'TFS' thing cos it gets old after a while. It allways seems people take a little quote from here and a bit of inuendo there, thats how we end up with people being convinced it was Luongo who came out with the whole '12 farmers comment' And then people subsequently getting worked up over something that wasn't ever even said in the first place.

I never said anything about teams closing down either + be carefull about using motoverte as your source of facts. Great site but not allways too tight on the facts ;0)

A French website, mate, they are always negative.

Pourcel is stopping because he is buying the De Groot team, which is of course stopping because, as mentioned Mrs De Groot wants out.

So what we have is Molson stopping. Owned by Mike Church this team is stopping, but team manager and daughter of the owner Lisa Church is becoming a mother soon, so won't be around, Tom Church the son is from what I hear going to CCM and leading sponsors are pulling out.

Hope that makes sense.

Geoff, you can't even hold Xavier's jockstrap. Not even in your fantasy world.

I think that it is a great grand idea but it will be difficult to realized without the full involvement of the factory and the U.S. distributors. They will need to attract the Top 10 in AMA and FIM in order to make it interesting for us. It will depend on how much money is available at OEM level and how much do they think is worth investing in this series in order to sell bikes.

I don't think it will really work. I fear that it will have the same fate as the last real "SX World" when they raced in Spain, Switzerland, etc.

FTE,

Mate, I love Xavia, he is a great journalist and I am probably average at best, but I don't need to carry his jockstrap around, I am happy with my own.

What I do know is I have missed maybe as many GP weekends in the last 15 years as Xavia has attended.

That would be a total of probably 15 GP's. Plus I am positive about the sport.
I can live with my work and how people look at me.
