What happened today was nothing like that and I think it is in poor taste at this point to dig something like that up.

If a tire hits you, you should be able to keep it like a fly ball.....ya ya I know but I would want it even if it messed me up.

I could not believe the engine was on fire on the other side of the fence. Luckily no fans got killed with all that carnage flying into the stands.

Not looking to trade barbs here my friend and I am well aware of racing's history with regard to danger to the fans and the drivers/riders. The tracks and cars are far far safer these days but as we saw no amount of planning and work towards safety is perfect and things can happen, I just don't see the point of dragging out that old piece of horrific footage and starting a big stir with it. My thoughts and prayers are with the folks down there in Daytona who were injured and their families.

I saw a tire fly into the stands once at a local race. It bounced over a 15ft fence and slammed into the stands. Essentially it blew the wood bleacher apart like it was match sticks. You guys have to keep in mind that it isn't usually just a rim and tire but a bunch of heavy suspension components as well. The track that I was at was a 3/8 mile and the cars were some street stocks probably going 45-50 around the corner. I can only imagine the force of cars going 190+

Here's a video from the stands. A lot of graphic words, in-case you have kids around.

Thoughts & Prayers to the injured.

The fans in the stands did it right: they looked after one another.

That one kid ran toward the fence to get a better view! Bad move, ya that one guy tended to the tire victim, he was on point. All in stable condition, they lucked out.

WOW that video from that stands is insane!
The perspective from that view of how fast they are going is unreal. TV doesn't do it any justice.

Weird that in this pic it looks like theres hardly anyone there. But in all the videos the place is loaded.

No one likes to sit at the very bottom, especially at such a massive place like daytona because you cant see anything.

Nevermind the safety concerns huh? 200mph cars whizzing by and people are surprised at the risks.

Typical.

I dont think most people have a safety concern. Most of them see the fence and wall and think they are 100% safe. Hell even at the local short track I race at youll see little kids grabbing onto the fence on the front straight until security chases them off, and then the parents usually act like security is singling them out. Safety isnt most fans concern, its being able to see everything.
