I've been riding for 8 years now. Everyone in my school has mainly 250f''s in general and race motocross. Im a trail rider and probaly the only one who likes GNCC. I like motocross also but just don't have a race bike. But sometimes when people talk about riding, I want to join in but people call me a "queer" cause I trail ride. All my GNCC friends go to different schools. Idk what to say to them, if I have a race bike or don't? I have a ttr230, but its probaly twice the price of their bikes due to all the mods and upgrades. Sometimes they call me a "pothead" which makes no sense cause I don't do ANYTHING bad lol. People make me mad now a days. I want to go riding with them but I'm embarrassed on my 230 with them. Cause they usually are jumping and stuff and i can only hit little jumps cause I will bottom out. This thread is mainly just about me wondering with how to deal with common things. Just about people who make fun of me and even just getting through the day. Any tips with how to deal with these types of situations?

Don't let it bother you so much. Real bikers enjoy camaraderie with anyone else who rides. If they don't understand that , then they are just douchebags.

What wolfman said...

You don't need to change anything you are doing except to find better friends.....

Challenge them to come to trail riding or god forbid, to sign up for a Cross Country race.

Nothing funnier than seeing a cocky motocrosser gasping for air after 15 minutes, and the shock when they find out they are barely 1/8 of the way done.

I'm sorry to read your troubles there CodyMX. People can be such idiots, especially at that sort of age (I'm assuming high school).

Always keep in mind that most of what people outwardly display (especially in regard to any of this macho crap) is all nonsense. Any fear or insecurity, in fact any emotion whatsoever - has been felt by pretty much every single person on this earth at one time or another. In reality they're just like you and you're just like them. It's just an excuse to bash someone. Just try and ignore it and carry on with you're life. Don't reward them with any display of indignation or irritation as this will only encourage more bs. And most importantly (though it's difficult I know) try not to take it to heart. The older you get the less important these things will feel.

From a pov of argument if someone really challenges... remember that the GNCC riders require incredible stamina and concentration over a much longer period than in MX, not to mention facing a much wider variety in terrain.

Just take them to where you practice, they'll be out of it after 40 minutes and be begging for the trees to end. Meanwhile you'll be thinking of settling into your rhythm and start picking them off one at a time.

After the one hour mark tell them it's half over....... they'll leave you alone forever.

Respect.

While they won't want to give it to you they'll have no alternative, and they'll know it.

What would you know you road racing pussy?

Shouldn't you be hanging out in the freaking tea room talking about lap dogs instead of here with the men talking about MOTOCROSS?

(jk, couldn't resist it)

Don't ride to impress anyone but yourself. Ride cause you love it, not because you want someone to think anything of you. if those knuckle heads make fun of you and your bike, then they don't truely love riding a bike, they do it to be someone or something they aren't.

When i was young, I went on vacation to lake Izabele and was without a bike for a few days, some kids had new bikes nad they had a beat to hell XL 125 in their shed, I didn't care, I rode the wheel off that bike for 2 days because I love to ride. If they can't except you and your bike, screw them, make new freinds who don't ride and stick with your GNCC buds.

Here's somthing I wrote trying to explain to my wife my love of riding.

My wife ask me all the time why I like motocross so much, its a question I really had no answer for, so I thought why do I ? Why do I still ride? Why do I still enjoy something so much that most stopped enjoying as kids?

It goes why beyond the bike itself, it gives me the opertunity to see things in life that most guys over look, a boring hillside to them has a different meaning to me, most things to me look like a jump, berm or obstical to overcome. I've seen streams, hillside and mountains that only a handfull have. It has taken me to towns and places I otherwise would'nt have ever gone before. It has givin me the opertunity to forge friendships in so many different places and so many different cities. The friendships I have made through riding will be friendships that will last a life time becuase of one common intrest, The Bike. There is no social or economic class among riding friends, they justy know they like to ride. The Bike has pushed me physically and mentally much further and harder then any stick and ball sport ever could have. and now, riding with my son brings me more joy then I ever thought it could.

Crashing and injuries are apart of riding, one minute you're having the best day of your life, and the next you're waking up on the way to the hospital. These are risk I'm willing to take to get better on The Bike, and Its the times I'm hurt, and the times I can't ride that I learn to appriciate riding more.

When I ride, I have no stress, no worries and nobady judging me, its just me and my bike pushing myself beyond what I'm capable of.

Riding has taken me places I would'nt have gone before and has allowed me to forge friendships I would'nt otherwise have, but its also givin me a whole different way of seeing things, I see things in a different perspective then most my age, all because of The Bike. I ride for all these reasons, but the biggest reason i ride is because everytime I ride, I smile, and that is why I ride.

Lots of good advice in here Cody.

Mine would be to ignore them or just laugh it off, I know that's easy to say.

Just know the only reason they put you down is to make themselves feel better, don't be pressured into anything.

If you are a good rider, you´ll probably out pace a few of these "mx" guys on a track too. Your corner speed will probably be better than theirs, in some cases, and your stamina will probably bet better in some cases. Just go with them and ride on the track.

That's too bad.

To me, anyone who rides a dirt bike on two wheels is cool & there is a certain comaraderie as such.

Sounds like your buddies are immature douchebags.

Not much to add since some really good advice has already been given, but I'll just add this...RESPECT. Back when I used to race, my brother's neighbor rode trail. He invited us to do a cross country with him - I think it was a 50 miler. After 25 miles of banging trees, frying my clutch, dragging my bike out of mud holes, and watching my overheated bike poured out smoke and belch out coolant, we hit the refueling point. When I looked at option A - that 5 gallon jug of fuel, then looked at option B - my truck with that A/C, dry clothes, and that cooler full of Gatorade, the choice was easy. I bailed out. Also, 10 minutes into that cross country race I would have GLADLY traded my YZ450 for a 230. A few times, we invited that guy to ride MX with us. While we easily outjumped him, he had no problem keeping up with us because he was so much faster through the turns than we were (he was on a 2-stroke 250 I think). We did a few other trail rides with him on easy trails and had a really good time, too.
If you ever get those guys to do a cross country race, since they sound like douchebags who don't deserve your friendship anyway, they would probably bail out and STILL not give you credit to your face. They'd come up with some lame excuse like, "Yeah, that stuff was gay so I bailed." But they would know and you would know what the truth was. As others have said, enjoy riding for yourself and not for others. Do what you enjoy, and find better friends. Hang out with kids you ride trails with, and don't bother looking for validation from the douches at your school. And one day when you're older and learn that the small things like this don't matter, you'll look back and laugh at them.
