Judging by the turnout at the Battle of Ohio at Briarcliff this last summer, there is a demand for MX in Ohio. I have a theory to some of what is going on. Back in the late 80's and 90's there were tracks I remember going to like Mid Ohio and OIR. They had a glorious past, but by the mid 90's they were a shell of their former self. They just hadn't evolved into 1990's. (I know that Dave Hand built OIR back into a great track recently)

I think some of the problem is tracks that are stuck in the 90's. The track prep hasn't evolved the way modern tracks are prepped (Briarcliff) or to suit modern bikes. The better tracks have gotten more open and flowing to suit the 4 strokes that most people race now.

I'm old enough to remember the days of Hayden Richards, Greg Rand, Jeremy Buehl (when he was #103 on a KX80) Josh Steel, and Jimmy Eickel ...even Phil Alderton.....I grew up with Brock Sellards and Mark Burkhart...watched David Whitcraft, Chris Whitcraft, Jeff Gibson, Zack Ames, Michael Willard, Willy Browning, and Tyler Bowers race 50's These were guys who raced a lot in southern Ohio. Back then there was big divide between northern and southern Ohio. D11 was kind of ahead of its time in the 80's and into the 90's.

Ohio is still an awsome motocross state, we just need promoters that will evolve with the times.

I recently moved back to Ohio from Mississippi and we have it great here in the Buckeye state. The closest track to me in MS was 3 hours away. I even drove up twice last summer to ride at Briar Cliff. To the guys bitching that live near Cincy/ Dayton about no tracks , you guys must live in a cave because there are tons of private and a decent amount of pay tracks with in a hour or so. Briar Cliff itself is worth a monthly trip no matter where you live in Ohio.

Keith Bowen and Broc Sellards were there that day as well. Found boxes of this stuff at my parents house last fall.

You're right! That is my biggest complaint about all the tracks around here. I have a 450 and I want to ride it/open it up. I can ride most tracks in 2nd gear. Usually they consist of a small turn, then a jump, small turn, jump. Nothing flows, which is why I love the big tracks that are open and flowing.

No, no more pics from the Oakley ride and I'm unsure where I am here, but I appear to be enjoying myself.
