I'd like to know why a Paleo diet isn't realistic.

Oh, you might want to think twice about cow milk. One of the reasons it's processed is because the human digestive system struggles so hard to digest it. Also, the calcium you get from milk is acidic based, and when that shit gets into your system, it shuts down the majority of your small intestine's ability to absorb nutrients, including calcium. Plant-based calcium, which is called alkaline based calcium, doesn't do any of that. You can get all of the calcium you need just from plants, and your body will absorb more nutrition because of it. Bet ya' never knew that.
easy on the soy/plant based.lowers testosterone.

If you want protein, eat more eggs and chicken, real food.

For some people, just having that whey powder raises trigs, bad idea.

No, that stuff is known as a "supplement". As in, it supplements the normal food you eat such as eggs and chicken. Most gyms don't like it when you grill chicken or scramble eggs in the locker room after a workout so supplements fill the need for immediate nutrition.

"Hey bro, you need protein immediately after lifting, use what I use bro, this shit works..."

I spent an hr in the gym last evening (5-6 m) and went to bed without eating anything. Didn't eat until this morning. I'm still alive.

BTW, any extra protein you take in (and you probably do if you use that crap), turns to glucose. Glucose causes insulin to increase to adjust blood sugar, and that also kicks in a fat storage mechanism. The more you do it, the worse it gets. That's what "BroScience" does for you.

Ever notice all the fat people at the gym doing that stuff and they wonder why nothing works? Smile
I'm going to go way out on a limb and say my workout and training goals vary significantly from yours. It's not about life or death, it's about beginning the process of recovery immediately. Of course you don't have to. You don't have to stretch either but I would recommend it.

You an expert in training now, too?

I don't eat soy. I eat a full, balanced Paleo diet based upon the premise of: if it isn't healthy for me raw, I won't eat it. Oh, I'm 50 and show zero signs of lowered testosterone production...in fact, quite the opposite.

You have no idea what you're missing. Ever since I started eating the Paleo diet, I rarely get sore. Need to stretch? I don't. Ever see an animal stretch and warm up before running? Nope. They just get up and run full tilt, without injury. Never asked yourself why humans think they need those things? They don't. You're filling your system with a bunch of crap it can't process. When you stop eating that junk, you'll be amazed.

Save your money, there;s more protein in regular milk than muscle milk. Pick up a Choco milk after your moto or workout, proven recovery food.

I do Paleo and it's easy. In Tulsa I just had bacon and eggs 4X and chicken and pork at a restaurant.

I eat more fat than I have ever before and cholesterol is one point below minimum, and weight is the same as it was in college days now.

No one "owns" Paleo so if they say this fits and this doesn't, or you have to do it a certain way, they are lying. Paleo is a concept, not a plan.

Plus you can just skip a meal or even too at random and not even worry about it.

You folks that think you have to slam something at the gym immediately or buy products are just messing up your metabolism by not giving your body a break from carbs, either directly or from glucogenesis (too much protein). Humans lasted a zillion years hunting and gathering without any of that crap.

Yes, the people sometimes even lived to be 30....
There is too much broscience here, but after reading through this TFS seems to have a PhD in broscience. And that is not a shot at paleo, but at the concept of not eating after training, and not needing protein.

Don't turn it into a strawman. I never said humans dont need protein. Do you need as much as you think you do and immediately, and must it be powered Frankenfood? If you think so, go for it.

The Paleo era humans didnt live long is a fool's argument. Lifespans were shorter back them due to no anitbiotics and shit that chases you down for dinner. Paleo helps you understand how our bodies evolved, so you can make better decisions than people who believe marketing.

Maybe you think you have all that experience and know everything, but if you eat crap, your experience is applicable to people who eat crap, but not Paleo folks.

Again, I think paleo diets are great. Much of what I do is based off the same concepts - the closer food is to its origin the better it is. But to say an athlete doesn't need to stretch is just silly. Do you think Knowshon Moreno stretches?

TFS - I'm not talking about the fat ass that walks 10 minutes on a treadmill and calls it a workout. I'm talking about an athlete training for an event or events that needs to get the most out of each workout. For the latter, it is critical to get the recovery process started as soon as possible after a hard workout. I didn't learn that from a nerd with a blog, it is based on personal experience.

I can't justify buying the bottles all the time. Plus they are hard to find in Canada. I usually stick with the chocolate powder mix. I find if you mix it half half with milk it tastes close to the bottled stuff. Usually i just drink them for meal replacements or post workout.
i do half water/milk to and it tastes good.

Common misconception. People lived long back then, too. It's just that on average you were exposed to more dangers (starvation, death from injury, etc.), and when they give age averages, a bunch of the numbers that pull the averages down were mortality rates at birth.

The ones that lived through birth and did avoid those inherent dangers of the times lived long and healthy. There've been tribes who still eat naturally that suffer next to none of our modern ills.

Paleo is a high protein diet. Cool thing is you can eat a ton, never feel stuffed or tired, and not gain weight other than muscle weight.

Depends on what your goals are, if you are trying to build muscle mass you'll need a higher protein intake(caloric intake as well) than someone who is not trying to build muscle(ie lose weight, improve cardio).

If you're not getting enough protein through your normal diet then protein shakes make sense, if you are getting a sufficient amount of protein through normal diet it's not necessary.

Your argument that your still alive this morning after not eating protein after 5 treadmill miles doesn't make any sense. Pending on your level of fitness your muscles could not be broken down enough to need to rebuild, whereas someone lifting weights to get stronger/build muscle most likely would.

Do you cold stretch? Yanno, according to some 'experts', that's the worst thing you can do. And, again, you're gonna tell me you have better performance than, oh, a horse that can run 30 miles at its speed? Please.

I highly doubt that you train harder than Moreno. I imagine he stretches, but that's the mentality of the culture and football world. Those trainers claim their 'new' technique prevents injuries, but none can agree on what's good, and they're always changing it.

I used to ride mountain bikes (here in Colorado, on some wicked mountains) 2 times a week, lift 3 times a week (335 bench, 475 squat, and I'm about 185 and 5-10), and was in Tae-Kwon-Do. No, I didn't stretch then, either.

If I was investing my time into MX racing again, I'd sure as hell be eating this way and I wouldn't be fucking around with any of that man-made crap.

I think there's good thought behind the paleo principals, but recall that our ancestors typically lived less than 30 years, were like 5'3" and their teeth fell out . . .

I also think there's probably something to the way grains are milled and processed industrially today, but also try to recall that wheat has probably been domesticated as long as any grain and with the longest window of evolutionary adaptation.

Eat good fresh food you prepare from raw yourself as often as you can.

It's been pretty well proven that simple low fat chocolate milk is a pretty optimal restorative within the first 90 minutes after hard exercise for reloading the muscles.

But it isn't something they have to do before running full tilt. The action of stretching after waking up is to prime the muscles with blood after being inactive during sleep.

I'm telling you guys, eat like this, and you'll see. It's friggin' wild. You've never, ever felt anything like it.

Warm up before exercise, stretch after. I stretch not because the cavemen did or didn't stretch, I stretch because it makes me more flexible which in turn improves my comfort on the bike and my performance. Not every concept that came along since the Paleolithic Age is bad for you.

While eating fruits and veggies is great, one must remember that ALL of our fruits and veggies at this point in history are "frankenfood", as one guy put it. Everything we eat has been genetically altered at some time.

Yeah, and if you are using carbs and Frankenpowder, that is what you have experience doing.

Stretching for added flexibility is one thing. Stretching to avoid injury is another. I agree. Warm ups are barely necessary. Actually, I'd go out and just hammer on my bike without warming up, and it never bothered me after I started eating this way.

Yanno what else a stretch does after sleeping (I replied to another in my comment above)? It flushes out bad toxins that build up during sleep. Guess what these processed foods are putting in you? That's right...a bunch of toxins...far more than you'd ever have. So, it makes sense that getting rid of toxins through stretching isn't nearly as necessary when you don't put them in you to begin with.

I'm telling ya'....try it for 3 months. I've never had anyone who earnestly tried this come back and say they'll go back to their old ways of eating and supplements.

Oh....sorry to the guys at Muscle Milk. Here I'm bashing a business that supports our sport. :-( Truly sorry.

I'm telling you guys, eat like this, and you'll see. It's friggin' wild. You've never, ever felt anything like it.
the bottom line is processed foods are not or should not be your first choice in nutrition needs.
go to the produce store and butcher/farm.if you go to the supermarket, avoid the foods in the isles.
