Indy SX- tips from Indy vets?

Edited Date/Time 1/25/2013 8:20pm
Planning on making a trip out to Lucas Oil Stadium this year.

I know it's early, but any Indy vets have tips they'd like to share on where to sit, where to get the best deals on tickets/packages, stuff to do early Saturday, places to stay, etc?

It's a 10 hr. drive one way, so I'd like to make the most of it.

Leave the Red Garter out of your summary. Know more than I should about that.

Thanks in advance,

H

There are multiple hotels within walking distance of the stadium. Good/bad, it will be a zoo as it also falls on St. Patrick's day weekend so the downtown area will be a zoo if you want to go out for food/drinks afterward. Great night life, but last year there were ridiculous lines to get into any of the clubs. I'm from Detroit, we never have to wait to get in anywhere!

I had industry seating last year (100 level behind the start gate) and the view wasn't too good, trying tickets in the 300 level this time hoping it'll be a decent view of the whole track. Scalping is legal in Indiana so ticket prices will end up being higher compared to Toronto.

It seems like this year they are offering a $10 pit pass, too.

If there are any rooms left at the Hyatt downtown that is connected to the mall its a nice place to stay on Friday. Pricey though. Downtown Indy is fun and lots of places to eat and hangout within walking distance of the hotel. We normally drive about 45 minutes east on I70 out of Indy on sat night and stay at a cheaper motel.

I stayed at the la Quinta it was like a ten min walk. I say first row 200 level tickets are the best. Someone says they will have pits but all the times I have gone there was no pit party. I would honestly goto minn or St. Louis since u are already driving so far. I have been to a1, dodgers stadium, Indy, and St. Louis out of all of them St. Louis was the best for pits and racing. I go to Indy just cause its close but its my least favorite. I live in Chicago bu the way

The pits were open last year, although from what I hear it doesn't compare to what goes down at the west coast rounds.

Honestly, if you're coming from York, Toronto's an option too. I think tickets are cheaper and the drive is shorter.

I like to sit in either section 313 or 340. It's at the 50 yd line and about halfway up. IMO the best seats in the house, as you can see the entire track but are still relatively close to the action.

Stay at the Omni or Union Station, they're very close as is the new Marriott. But you want to stay downtown, park ur car once and you're set for the weekend. Afterwards, it's always the Ugly Monkey man. It's my 13th annual after-bash! lol The bar is closed now, but opening up just for us that night.

I waited to long to order. Best I could find over the weekend was in section 439 for 2 seats together. Taking a female friend and it is her first SX, dont want her sitting alone.

I think the 200 level seats are the best. 300 level is too high and 100 level is too low. Call ticketmaster and talk to an agent to get the seats you want.

Ugly monkey before the event to get torqued up.....I stayed over next to Purdue University and just walked to town and partied it up.....the dealer about 2 miles down the road usually has riders/teams signing the night before.....it's a Honda/Yamaha dealer I believe....Turbo

The 400's just above there are great too. Up the escalator, a bit isolated from the other sections, so no crowd at the restrooms. Front row on that balcony gives a great all-track view.

If you like blues music the "Slippery Noodle" is a must! Just a short walk from the stadium. Definitely stay downtown as close to the dome as possible......great downtown area......but then again I live in Detroit so what do I know......
