Im sure the factory wants the riders running whatever works best for them, and gives them the best shot at putting their blue/yellow/green/orange/red bike up front.

A long, long time ago Suzuki finally relented and let McGrath return to "upside down" forks, but made other riders (Larocco for one) stay on conventionals. If I remember, that's one of the reasons Larocco packed up and quit Suzuki......

I have heard that Honda will not allow its factory bikes that come dual exhaust to run a single side one any truth to that?

If you spent money developing a product would you let your riders use products not on the bike you are trying to justify the sale of?

R&D is just that and is an ongoing process

All the teams running air forks in SX are using the Showa SFF Air. Since Honda and Kawasaki 450's come stock with KYB air forks, I am pretty sure those manufacturers are not "making" the teams run a product that is not on the stock bike.

What's to stop them from putting SFF stickers on but running a conventional setup. 90% of the viewers wouldn't know the difference.

This happens in golf all the time. Guy carryies a Taylor Made bag but all his clubs are other brands he is more comfortable with. Nobody but the guys who really pay attention even notice.

True story - At High Point back in the 80's, we watched Jeff Ward's mechanic pour Kawasaki oil into the Bel Ray bottle on the practice Friday. He had poured the Bel Ray into another larger bottle. He gave it to me with a note that said what it was and said "Don't tell anyone.". Cool, that was like 2 gallons of free 2 stroke oil! My dad was happy.

From what I understand, Showa's main area of focus right now is on the SFF AIR, so ALL of their A-kit and factory forks have moved to that configuration.

Yeah I was wondering that... Seems that why would you change if you're not totally comfortable.
Pretty sure I read Shorty isn't running em. I wouldn't unless I was sure it was better, especially if I'm a front end guy...
