The boys from Moto recently caught up with Billy Mac as he prepares for this weekends GP in Lommel, Belgium. At the opening GP in Valkenswward, Billy proved he was one of the quickest riders in the world on the soft stuff. This video provides further evidence to that fact.

And based on that video you think he is fast in the sand? Is it my perception or does he look like me at Croom trying to stay on 'Ole Blu' hoping I do not hurt myself?

No disrespect intended, but you can see about 100 youth riders riding the sand better here in Florida in the weeks leading up to Lorreta Lynn's.

Some of you guys have a misconception as to how deep the sand in Europe really is..... I have lived both places and Florida is sandy but not like the sand in Belgium!!! No way does it compare.

billly Mac hauls butt, as do all the other GP riders and US riders. The tension between GP fans and US fans needs to go away. We all love the same thing and we all are the same breed one way or another. build a bridge across the pond! lets live ONE NATION UNDER MOTO!

I remember Billy putting in a faster lap time at Matchams (GP in 05) than Stefan! and 5 seconds quicker than Townleys. he was on a 250f! Guy is insane whe he feeling it. Tbteam - see how Zach Osbournes lap times compare to Billys this weekend in the last motos on Sunday.Wink

Comparing osbourne to Mackenzie is a little far fetched.Of course Billy Mackenzie will have better laps than Osbourne. Billy is a flat out stronger rider than osbourne with far more experience..ecspecially on this track. i think using Osbournes lap times to prove Billys speed is a little mute.

im going to piss off alot of US fans with that one....

Are you serious man - when Osbourne was a toddler he probably had a sand pit deeper than Lommel Blink

Nice film Chussy - fingers crossed Billy doesn't drop it this weekend.........

MikeyB35 get over to Donnington next month and i'll buy you a pint

I'm not being sarcastic, but what exactly do you mean by "how deep the sand is"? Is the sand there "deeper" than riding at Pismo or Glamis; I'm presuming that you aren't actually referring to the physical depth of the sand, right?

Nah man you missed my point. Tbteam referred to '100 youth riders going faster in sand' . these are all riders that will probably never be as fast as Osborne is now. If he wants some idea of Billys speed in sand he can compare lap times and get some sense of perspective. Either that or Tbteam was just taking the piss but I don't think I'll give him that much creditTongue

Its the size of the grain and lack of binding materials in it,(clay types etc.) Belgian tracks are like beach sand, Southwick etc seem to be a bit firmer for whatever reason. If you had a track laid out in the dunes thats what its like.

sorry bud. I didnt even see the thing about the youth riders. that is a joke! Its a shame that so many americans view the GP's and all its riders as "second rate". Dont get me wrong im a die hard American Moto fan but I think you give respect where it is deserved. The GP guys deserve lots of respect not only for there speed but for there ancestors who spawned the sport we all love. The amount of people over here who dis the GP's is out of control.

* As for EWAN, I would love a pint right now!

Billy, is a real good sand rider.

I still can't understand how a lot of you think your armatures are faster than the GP boys, if that was the case shouldn't Steve Boniface, be winning everything by a mile over here seeing he was finishing top 5-6 in the Nationals rather than slipping outside the top ten at nearly every race?

JS = Maybe a Different league, the rest are like for like

That makes sense.
Well, if the Belgian track is like riding at the dunes with just a knobbie, that's got to be brutal. The natural whoops that get created have to be really severe.
If any track would favor someone really fit riding a 500cc 2-stroke, that would have to be it.

Any videos of that track?
