Because it was a "superstorm", Travelers Insurance waived all of their policy holders deductibles in the affected areas.

Oh, and FEMA is fucking retarded just in case you all haven't figured that out yet. Anyone waiting on or counting on them, just don't hold your breath.

But you still have to purchase flood insurance, just like any other policy.

You don't have to... You can just sit back and let the rich people (tax payers) take care of your cleanup and rebuilding.

Kind of like how you did with your health insurance...then pawned it off on somebody else. I don't expect you to understand...

Interesting that the Occupy Wall Street crowd is out there helping out.
Pretty good for a bunch of dirtbags that only wanted a free handout (as some on this board described them).

I find these grand pronouncements about the role of government so hilarious. I wish I has such a simplistic view of the world ("government baaaad") It would be a lot easier.
As for Norris- I was around when Reagan was President. In those days I would have laughed out loud if someone said this guy was one of our nation's greatest presidents. The guy was practcally a national joke at the time.

Commercial lending, I can finance up to 85-90% appraised value. Rates are 5 1/2 to 5 3/4% , 15 years, last time I financed. I just buy townhouses/condos so they are insured through the townhouse association which covers the structure/exteriors. I'm responsible for the interiors and can purchase separate policies for those if I choose.

Which is underwritten by NFIP, a division of FEMA, the government.
So if you flood, the government pays for it, not your insurer.

As for the "no need for insurance the government will replace your home for free" line of bullshit, well, that's just bullshit.

The best the government will do if you do not have flood insurance is offer you a low interest loan to rebuild, but with today's interest rates you can pretty much get anyway.

Keep in mind, while all this is going on, you still have to keep up your mortgage payments and stuff, that doesn't all go away when your home and all your belongings do. (and even if your job has washed away too)

I understand that, but it's still a policy that you have to pay for. Individuals are funding it throught the purchase of flood policies, not like it's off the taxpayers backs, right?

The premiums are stupid cheap. Financially, I think the feds pick up most of the tab, I do not believe the accumulated premium pool can absorb the billions in damages

Not sure what Norris is saying but one thing is for sure, the reporting is totally different. FEMA writes checks. That's what they do. During Katrina though, FEMA was expected to fly in a chopper for anybody that needed a drink of water and TP for anybody that needed to take a shit.

No different now than they were then. Just a different letter in front of the name. Means everything.
These departments of the government BS everybody so they can keep getting funding. I watched the head of the DEA tell us how great we're doing against the war on drugs. Uh. Yeah. Right.

Smaller government. It's the way to stop the waste.

What's even worse than that, is that when the government grows and creates a government-funded economy, it's always a possibility that the funding, which comes from the private sector, just isn't available to continue the wasteful programs that grow to unsustainable size. The sequestered cuts are going to put a lot of people in the unemployment line. And, the money saved is going to be lost both to social programs in place to support unemployed workers, and worse yet, a significant decrease in tax revenue.

Big government is a slippery slope into a poor economy.
