I feel like there was a lot left out of the episode about the family break up with him and his mom what is the story? I know they are not going into crazy about if but I felt like there is more to it than turmoil or however he described it
While it's cool to know these things, they are private matters and it might be best for it to remain that way. We really don't need to know about family business other than to just fulfill our morbid curiosities. When I watched last weeks episode I had mixed feelings about how in depth it got about Josh Grant's mom, sometimes broken relationships can be repaired but when something like this comes out it seems it may really do a lot of irrepairable damage do all involved. It has got to make it tougher for either party to swallow their pride and extend an olive branch when the whole moto community has now formed strong opinions and are passing judgement.
I've worked with my mom before in a corporate setting and I can tell you that it gets old, real quick! I can see where Davey would grow to resent her involvement in his racing career. Not her fault by any means, but is counter to the mother / son roles especially as son's maturity / masculinity further develops.
It would be interesting to know what Tony thinks of this season of the show so far?

My GF has taken to watching the show with me, I know shocking. She commented afterwards that he needs to grow up, that if not for his mother he would never have achieved what he has in racing and that you only have one mother. I argued that we don't know the whole story and that its hard to pass judgment without knowing.
Part of me agrees with her a bit. Clearly she sacrificed alot for his racing career and was very influential in his development especially after his dad checked out. No doubt Davi was always talented as hell, maybe he could have made it without his mothers help?
Anyways, I hope for the sake of Davi and his son that they are able to repair the relationship. Somethings become clearer with time.
I really liked hearing the story about him and Carlos and connecting those dots.
-Grabbing riders by their chin guard, telling them they suck.
-Telling a crying 12 year old that some nonsense on the track is going to make him a better rider.
-Telling a 65cc rider to huck a triple that most big bikes wouldn't hit and feeling good about it.
I have no doubt that she has played a big part in Davi's succes, but MY GOD, do I understand that Davi doesn't want to talk to that woman at this point.
hopefully they both will watch the episode and it will cause a chain reaction of coming to terms with their differences.
i've never gone more than a week without talking to either of my parents, can't imagine how hard that would be for all parties involved.
It's standard practice with any kind of documentary, that if you hang someone's reputation out to dry, you give them a chance to defend themselves. Not that I am defending her, just saying it would have been a good idea.
Pit Row
you mean the parents of the kids going there know what they are getting into.
mom and dad pay the bill.
junior get's his ass reamed all day and get's to drop out of school at a young age.
win win situation.
Grabbing your chin guard and telling you that you're riding poorly, when your parents are basically putting more money into your little hobby than the vast majority of people make from working? Palease
EDIT: actually, I can see how that would get really old if it went on for most of my life. Couple of times during a riding camp isn't bad but living that way, eeek. Not necessarily the way she was doing it but just constantly being pushed and pushed.
BUT, I wonder how different other parents have been. You see the Tomacs who are well known for basically being the opposite of that, but then you hear stories of Big James and Mrs. Carmichael yelling at their kids for not doing certain jumps. I don't know, I think I would veer more towards the Tomac way of doing things than the Millsaps/Alessi way because that way, whether or not his career takes off or not, at the end of they day you can preserve that parent/son relationship and enjoy the ride more.
I guess what I was wondering with the original post is it seemed like there was maybe some kind of beef with Daveys wife and the mom maybe or I got te impression the mom may be the one distancing herself from them. But whatever.
She seems like a hard ass and terr is no doubt some kids need that but I think to encourage kids to fight each other is silly and the helmet grabbing is a little much. Either way te kids are there for a reason but I don't know if the really know what try are getting into when they show up.
As far as putting a bounty on Davi's head to try and get someone to punch him is a little out of hand. I have been in my fair share of fights and they have never benefited me at all in my racing career. I
I have always been competitive and really hate losing weather it be at beer pong or at the race track. Some people are born with it and some are not. Getting punched in the face does not bring that out.
The details are none of are business but I'm real stoked for this new series. It touches down on the personal side of the sport that hasn't really been seen before. Good job guys keep up the good work!
MTF looks similar to that. I would imagine that Davey got to the point where he just wanted to be a pro without having someone yell at him all the time. Coaches become different things as the athlete ages. His mom may have had a hard time pulling the plug from being a mini parent.
Davey seems very intelligent and genuine in his appreciation for what his mother taught him. In my opinion, as you become an adult your parents become some of your best friends and less of a parent. You never stop learning from your parents......it just happens in a different way.
