If you still have a cheap steelframe like a -73 honda a la Gary Jones with woodscrews in plastick and same piece of shit crankshaft company delivers....still. And they trying to tell you their early 90 style bikes should cost as much as a high-tech japanese? yeah right? The 2 stroke is not as bad as their 4 strokes because they are a disaster and some guys on this forum say thats false? Everybody in the buissiness knows for a fact since many years, if you race a KTM team you'd better have factory back-up or you get ruined. Your mechanics will abandon you. Famous Danish rider tried KTM. After a month his mechanic gave up. Barragan got fired for smacktalking KTM when riding for them. He told his friends and relatives who asked him about them. don't f...g buy this shit..ATK you know me now a little?Smile I'm in for the me like not your wrong discussion for pure fun.Wink But you must be the slowest rider on heart or never rode a KTM. Because you still try to convince peopla that Huskys, Ktm etc are solid bikes? I'm pretty sure you own some pos Eurobike shop or own some pos eurobikes you trying to sell...MonkeybrainGrinning .
So you have Barragan smaktalking them, u sure that was about quality? Then you have this Danish guy, that didn't have factory back-up, that got ruined, and his mechanic gave up? That's also pretty thin considering there are no facts whatsoever here. If you would make a case, you have to be more specific, say the 2009 SX250F hand series issues with xxxxx, and that ended with the team trying to fix that, but it just kept breaking, and every time it happened, the whole engine had to be xxxx, on top of that, the xxxx also was weak which ended in xxxxx, so that season they put down $ xxxxxx just to make the bike to the grid. This issue was shared with others privateers team during the same year, and was still heard of the next year, and I still hear the same problem is appearing. Then I would get your frustration.

But if that's not 2012, and obviously whatever fact there's, seems to have NOTHING to do with the 250sx which the discussion was about, and since no facts have emerged what so ever, how would you suggest we embrace your stand? For me it almost comes out as you have an axe to grind with KTM, maybe in a different area, and you now grasp for straws to smack talk?

Again, I'm all ears if you have ANYTHING to come up with? Like poor gearbox, bad bearings, bad casings, bad electrics, cracking frames that stands out? Also, I know racing professionally, and as a weekend warrior has to be taken into consideration as well. I have learned to know a guy from Massachusetts, who trains a lot, managed to qualify for some Nationals every year, and it's amazing to see how a CRF450 that's pretty solid for a majority, in a hand of a fast guy like him can break down in so many ways its crazy. The same guy changed to KTM, and he was happy with the change.

So is the above, his experience, my experience enough to draw a conclusion? No, but just saying.

But I'm curios, there's something driving him, becoming pretty evident it's not about quality. Something else, maybe an interesting story?

to the OP, KTM 300 is your answer. I used to ride a KX-500 for years. Bought a KTM 300, and guess what, it's a small 500, but much much lighter. Of course not as much power, but still plenty.

The KTM 250sx Is a amazing bike, but if you want to hang with the 450's you gotta go into it knowing your going to have to work a lot harder to keep up or win. If you not planning on racing that much and just like riding the track, then there is probably nothing funner to ride.

Impossible question to answer. No way on earth the 250 sx will beat the 450, but I notice lately, it's more important having fun, and to the cost that maybe go a bit slower, I would take the 250SX. The resale value in Sweden are crazy on 250 smokers, while people throw out barley used 450 for pocket money.

I mean if you change your mind, I think it's easier to sell the smoker and buy a equal mint 450, while the other way around might be harder...

I have been hovering sites for used SX250s, an 11, with tons of hours after two years is still costing 6k here.

to the original poster: do you have a current bike? if i already had a bike, id end up buying which ever kind i didnt already have. its nice to have 1 of each.
I have a 2010 mod 500 AF.

I've been a die hard 4 stroke rider since '03. Went so far as to start a company mfg. valve train components for many years and made a bit of $ along the way. Now that's that done though I'll admit the 250SX has me seriously interested in going back to 2 strokes. If I had to pick between the '13 CRF and the 250SX it would be the KTM hands down.

obvious troll man, but i'll go with it. all im saying is rider skill is the #1 factor.

Bercy 2010, Cedric Soubeyras.

-PDS equipped 250sx, Strike 1
-Supercross style track, Strike 2
-Field full of 450's, Strike 3

went 4-2-6 out of 19 dudes, even beating out Bam Bam, Chisholm, Cairoli, Wharton, and Musquin sometime during the weekend. did he get first? no, but he beat out a whole lot of 450's on what most would consider a poorly suspended, hard to ride bike, on a track that suits the 4 stroke bottom end. Bercy 2011 on the 450 he went 7-5-9, not like his results jumped exponentially on the 450. I simply think too much emphasis is placed on the bike and not the rider.

Ive ridden my cr250/250sx's and my friends 450's back to back at the track, i was equally slow and got smoked by the same kids on their 125's on both bikes. im man enough to admit i dont have the talent to hang with these kids no matter the bike Wink . All im saying is, to discount a decent 250 2 stroke simply because it doesnt have the broad spread that the 4 stroke does isnt being honest.

to the OP: When i can finally afford another bike, the 350 will be it. seems to have everything i want in a bike, more power than a 250f, higher revving than a 450f. I think the 350 is the only bike that could match the fun i have on the 250 2 strokes. i think you made a good choice!

Buy the 250SX. I was seriously considering buying the new Honda & I'm SO glad I didn't & went with the 13 250SX. One of my buddies who is a top NESC expert & has ridden the nationals & arenacrosses got one a few wks ago & we swapped at our local track & I knew when I got off of his bike that I had made the right decision but I was waiting to hear from him & what he thought. He was "dude your bike will kill mine & it handles better too. I knew it but it felt much better coming from him :-)
