I don't have the money for a 250f now. I most likely will when I have the money around Christmas but I'm trying to figure out what's the best year and model to buy a 250. I heard the 07-09 crf250s are valve eaters, and the 05 kxf250 eats up valves too. So I would like a 05 crf250 cause personally I think their the best year they made them. I'm not so sure about yzf250 and rmz250s. But not sxf250s, their completely put of my price range and I don't wanna ride orange. So does anyone have any suggestions, ideas, or thoughts?

05-09 crf 250s are really high maint machines, if you are saving your pennies already dont buy that bike. 04-06 kx/rmz's are junk (yet rather reliable minus the cooling troubles). the 06-09 yz250f's are very reliable, but not very quick. Im not a huge fan of two strokes, but you honestly sound like youre a perfect candidate for a yz250.

If maintenance cost are a factor: YZ250, KX250, CR250, RM250, 250SX

I would get a 250 2 stroke, but like I said I'm very cheap lol, I try to find the most low maintenance bike. I'm not a 2 stroke fan, I've ridden 4 strokes all my life. I ride better and more comfortable. So I will have to try an 06-09 yzf250. I'm not gonna be on the track much so it doesn't matter the speed. Thanks for the help

if your very cheap and want low maint, you need to be looking at a xr250-400 or a two stoke either that or when , not if, your used 250f blows up you will be done for a very long time

Doh!!!!!!! "I've ridden 4 strokes all my life". LOL, why are you asking which bike then? You seem to be an expert on fours blowing up or not sooooo you should be savvy enough not to ask which bike to buy. Good luck but if you are PINCHING PENNIES a four stroke isn't for you. FYI I own a MC shop and work on plenty of NON RACED blown up four strokes.

CodyMX knows what's up! Hey Cody, this is out of my YZ250F. Is this valve properly installed? Someone else here said it should be on the exhaust side, not the intake.

You just contradicted the hell out of yourself. Any four stroke will be more maintenance than any two stroke.

The 05 KX250F IS NOT a valve eater un less your riding like a retard and bouncing rev limiter every time you shift.. iv out 2 seaons of racing on my 05 kx250f, and im just now doing piston and rings, and it still starts first kick, at 90psi of compression...and iv never adjusted my valves i checked them yesterday and they where in perfect spec, Dont down a bike because of Rumers,

the 05 kx250f had the cooling issue fixxed.. unless your just sitting their idling, but that goes for any aircooled bike..05 got bigger rads, and a revised waterpump, they are very reliable, maintenance is key!

Now I'm really confused! The 05 KX 250f is aircooled?

PK27 your 90psi statement is not accurate, your bike has a auto compression release on the exhaust cam so you cannot check compression with it installed. Unless the aircooled models are different.

what i ment was air needs to be moving past the radiators for the bike to cool. iall race bikes are water cooled, but if air isent moving past them radiators it just getts hotter and hotter, same with all bikes...and i did a leak down test, so yes im low on compression. i have another thread on it.. I should of said "watercooled", instead of "aircooled"
