i base it on gut instinct, 25 years ago guys like antunez were puttin lap times on an 80 almost as quick as kehoe. he has not looked super fast on a 125 or the 250. most guys now are on big bikes at 14. look at wilson. if im wrong i will be the first to admit it. lots of mini phenoms did fuck all on big bikes. paul dennis, ricky simmit, gaddis . the list goes on. not hatin just sayin. so fuck off!!!!

Finally a post with thought to it in this thread.....

Here is my dilemma with AC... I love watching him ride, he is really fast BUTTT!!!

The hype.. idk... I'm not believing the hype because alot of kids grow when they get past riding 80s... some kids will be bigger and may hit that next gear on a bigger bike that AC may not be able to reach.

I'm not knocking him, so please don't take it that way... hes fast as shit, but still has alot to prove.

-----
Hypothetical Conspiracy Theory-

is he getting all of this hype because he signed with monster at a young age? and won alot and monster told mitch to pick him up??

I mean, i don't know of another amateur with this much hype... you can say TP/RC/JS/Alessi/Villopotos... but i don't recall them being hyped like this kid.

In a nut shell..............You have no clue as to what happened that day.

Why on earth would you come on here and comment on a topic you clearly have no insight on?

Every time there is a comment about AC you are quick to jump on the negative side.

I am about to help you out on this one. And to boot, I will leave your children out of it!
AC did cut a corner twice, twice! And those were not the laps you mentioned as being close to Blake. I say this not because some 14 year old told my son, but because I was there.

Stop hating and get on with your life. Put the past behind you and focus on the job at hand, soon enough your crew will get the opportunity to make your point, or not.

Note:
The only reason Blake was made aware of AC's time was beacause......He asked! Did AC cut the track? NO! Did Blake yell at him? NO! Are you making an ass of yourself?

Stewart did.

The next big thing needs to get out there and show he's the next big thing. I've been waiting 8 years for this dammit!

Look at the size of him, he's nowhere near strong enough to wrestle that bike around a supercross track and bang bars with the likes of tomac and mookie. Not yet anyways.

Does look fast but when doesn't he. He does look taller, hopefully that growth spurt has begun and he can really start motoring.
Eli Tomac looked about the same riding a Geico 250Eff for the first time when they signed him...

And there was that other little red headed guy who proved size doesn't matter

AC will be just fine...

Just want to play devil's advocate for a second and say that Shaun Kalos and Buddy Antunez were just as dominant on super-minis.

Then there was this guy who was virtually non-existent as an amateur, his name rhymes with Jeremy McGrath.

So who knows.

There is no point in rushing him to go pro at 16...he has a long career ahead of him. No point in pile driving him into the ground like so many before him, going pro and all.

I bet Mitch would say "he gambles".

Next to the stage: Martin Davalos

I like Davalos and am looking forward to him stepping up, but it's certainly a gamble and maybe a bigger gamble than Mitch's usual gambles i'd say.
Great point Stephon.

Also, with all of this talk about "bust" and guys not developing right away, didn't it take Jeff Ward time to develop into a good 125 rider?

Either way, from what I've seen as he grows and gains more muscle he will get faster and faster. I think that he is a good gamble.

How often is a 16 year old ready for the top level of any sport? Moto may be seeing that. I'm all for it if the kid is ready, but that's very rare in moto and other sports. How many NBA players have actually entered the league at 16? None.

If Adam is as great as he has been hyped up to be, he should win the Nationals next summer at 16 years old. I think holding him back for supercross will only delay the inevitable, which is his first season of supercross will probably be miserable whether it's 2013 or 2014, just as Stewarts, Carmichael, Villopoto, and Pastrana's first supercross seasons were. They all showed flashes of their speed, but mistakes ultimately took them out of the championship.

However, they all went out and won their first year out at the Nationals.

It just seems people are being a lot more careful hitting the pro's nowadays, trying to be ready, time things to make their debut.

To a degree, but there are plenty of kids that could play in the NBA straight out of High School (usually 18 years old) that probably couldn't at 16 and I think the same goes for MX. There is a reason that they have kept him on the mini for so long and I think that the main reason is size. It takes time to build mature muscle, the kind of muscle that he will need to handle the 250F over the long outdoor motos or when it gets out of shape in the whoops during a SX.

How can two people dominate one class? I was on 80's at the same time as both Kalos and Antunez and while they were great, neither one alone did what Adam C. has done with winning championships.

Personally, I think that it builds confidence and like I mentioned before it will give him time to develope more physically. Why throw him into a meat grinder when he may not be ready? He hasn't even officially raced a 250F so why the rush?

I agree.

He carries an invincibility mystique right now, and I think they want him to win right out of the box. If someone like Wilbur Hahn were to "saw his front wheel off" at A1 in a heat race, the mystique would be over, and the proverbial cash cow would die. He'd be "AC92, the guy who got punted into next week by Hahn/Sipes/Wharton/Davalos, ect.

Although, a 16 yr old Bubba walked right in and rode a circle around Preston. So who knows. But I think the powers that be are trying to have him carry that invincibility into the pro ranks, to keep his marketability high.

That's Alessi-esque ....hahaha. He may not be all the hype he is either and I am kind of seeing the great celebration of a mini racer that never loses just like Mike ....it wouldn't be that far fetched for him to not be as successful as most are hyping him up to be ..... At this point I don't know but one thing is sure not EVERY amateur rider kills it when they move up. The statement j100 made about him crying and cutting the track to make fast lap times is showing me some doubt but its only one incident .... I can't predict the future of Adam it will be interesting at the start of outdoors and ill say he averages top 5, that's being a little over zealous

Hahahaha that's kind of pathetic for a "phenom" like Adam ..... Which seems kind of an ego trip to show he can run w the big dogs he couldn't YET so he cut the track at practice? To prove what? All in an effort to post a time clost to Blake .... It wasnt even a race.

Edit: I see there is some debate as to whether this happened like it did or not, I'm taking a neutral stance but it IS a funny story

or, heres a plan, Us Canadians can have our own opinion, we can pray to whatever deity is up there that there's no NHL Lockout. So you listed a few riders that did have a ton of success out of PC, but look at guys like CR and RD, no PC influence there and LOOK! They're successful! Also, PC has had a ton of riders through their program that didnt end up as stars, a la Christophe Pourcel, Austin Stroupe, BT101. Being with PC doesn't guaruntee success. not saying he will, not saying he wont, but he's got a lot of work ahead if he wants to run with the big boys

I like Davalos and am looking forward to him stepping up, but it's certainly a gamble and maybe a bigger gamble than Mitch's usual gambles i'd say.
Every rider is a 'gamble'

He signed the kid for a reason..he knows he's got steeze'.

As a self proclaimed narcissist, I too think it's funny there are naysayers....he's still a CHILD and he acts more mature than alot of national level pros....

with the amount of competition out there these days..being 'smart' is every bit as important as being super fast and fit.

alot of guys ruin themselves by riding over there heads and getting injured...MX is a gnarly sport.

I think he'll do just fine.
