yzthumpa, the region of Florida I fish in most of my redfish come from real shallow areas.
You can pattern them around marsh type areas & the backwaters usually fairly easy.
The Gulf region I fish in (North Of Tampa bay) marsh areas are spotty ,but they do exists.
Up close near the mangroves and also in potholes on the flats at low tide can produce fish also.
I also catch them in the rivers around here up along the seawalls once water temps cool a bit.
However,in this region it seems like towards the end of the outgoing tide usually produces the best.
We also have some islands/keys in this region that are great areas.

This is pretty much the Gulf region that I fish.

Inshore you can catch anything from silver trout, speckle trout,Tarpon(all sizes from juvies to well over 100lbs),Snook,Reds (mostly slot size & rats),Jacks,Cobia, numerous species of sharks, pompano, flounder, sheepshead,a few black drum.I've seen barracuda around Anclote in the past and also some huge 15ft + HammerHeads. Some other specie's of fish are Ballyhoo, ladyfish, blue fish,Crevalle Jack's,grass grouper & also gags in some rivers deeper holes. Lots of stingrays & mullet also.

If you look to the right you can see the marsh areas...their spotty.
Anything from about North of Anclote is pretty much getting into the Nature Coast IMO ,no beaches.
It's almost airboat country ,in the back waters and the farther north you go.

Yes I do know those guys, Bernie shultz is a legend and Mikeybalz is just a fishing nut that I see on the lake quite a bit. He just started filming everything and posting it.
I have a few over 10 lbs. I have had a guests catch bigger on live bait but I don't ever use it myself.
As far as redfish, we don't get the huge ones like you do up there but we get large schools on the grass flats and around the deeper mangrove shorelines. We do sometimes come across the big ones offshore in schools but harder to locate. Pine Island Sound and Charlotte Harbor are my general area's. They fish my area every weekend on tv and the fish get a lot of pressure but the numbers are so good, fishing tends to be real easy here.

Yep, that area is on TV every weekend.
I always watch the Tarpon Tourney's every Sunday evening from Boca.
I would assume that Boca Grande/ Charlotte area is probably the best known saltwater fishing hot spot on the Earth.

Out the channel by the bell bouys at Boca Grand, tossing a crab at the rollers coming up on the sand. I mainly flyfish for them here off Homosassa / Bayport.

Figured I'd share a few pics of my friend Rebekka. She's the new co-host of "Fly Rod Chronicles"

Yep! We were fishing off the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC (Tofino area) for salmon, and decided to bob for a halibut. Instead, I drug up this prehistoric monster.

I am no fisherman, but that was a lot of fun. Tasted like crap though......

Managed a little 7 pounder yesterday. It’s still early but, each of the three people in our group walked off the river with one fish. There were about eight other people fishing the stretch we were and, nothing was caught.
I guess we’re doing something right.

Next weekend should be pretty good as the number salmon coming in will just continue to ramp up.

Managed to get six chinook to the bank today. Up at 1am. On the river by 2:30am and, home by 1pm. Came home, cleaned fish, cured eggs, prepped my gear for tomorrow, cleaned my garage and, it’s already 10:15pm. I’ll be up in a couple hours and, doing it all over again tomorrow. It’s work at times but, I love it. I should have more pics tomorrow to share.
