How is this kid riding with the fast guys? A little unfair seeing that everyone else moving up has to do it with the locals.

after 46 years of close observation .. I've come to the conclusion that some people are more 'equal' than others ... just how it is. However, he's definitely in with the right group of riders based on his lap times.

My guess is some Horizon Award exemption.....pretty stupid.
They should of let Van Martin into A too seeing how he has already qualified for a national this year.....Whistling

I understand the guy has some sand skills, but its just another reason why the AMA needs to make things equal. I'm sure there are more than a few locals from New Enlgand that could shave a few seconds if their laps with a little faster cpmpetition around them.

i was sitting next to DV12 at Stl this year and asked him the same question he said every "factory" rider gets one shot to get into the top 20 and how a few years ago they put stewart into the B practice at an sx and he almost killed himself and others because of his speed so the next group he was with the A

I think it's a courtesy. Much like the same way RC, Villopoto, and others who graduate from Loretta's to factory-supported rides have been extended the same courtesy.

I think his speed in moto one also showed that it wasn't misguided.

They did the same thing with bogle last year. Regardless of which practice he was in does anyone think it honestly made a difference? Kid was flying

On a good note : Zach seems like the real dealio'. He sure looks small on that bike , but extremely fast. Actually can't wait to see him on a "dirt" track.....the sand seemed to be working that kid pretty hard , but he did a great job at his first race in the pro's. Kids got a bright future.

Guess you guys didnt notive Jessy Nelson did it at Hangtown? Not only was he in the A practice but was listed in the B practice. Talked to DC about it. Not his call but the AMA's.
On a side note I do beleieve the rider who recieves the Horizon Award at Lorettas does deserve that perk. They earned it. IMO

it does seem unfair, but he proved that he deserved to be in seeded for sure. The boy led for 10+ minutes!

No disrespect to Bell he is awesome, but being in the seeded practice at you first race because you are on a factory team is complete BS. Especially at Southwick, every lap during practice slows down. Example Bell goes out in A practice qualifies great, gets a good gate pick, rips a holeshot, leads the race, crashes doesn't score a point. Next week he will be in the seeded practice again on one of the fastest motorcycles in the world and has not earned a thing. If anyone in the B practice would of done the same thing they would still be in the B practice. Jesse Wentland won Lorretta's too, got B practice messed up first practice and didn't make the show. This is about factory money and why the privateers have such an up hill battle. Earn your stripes just like everyone else, this has nothing to do with safety, it is about money. REDICULOUS!

I agree. Just because they are on a factory team doesn't mean they should be treated special.

in the 1st practice, Zach was 19th so your facts are wrong about him setting some fast time on a smooth track.

in the 2nd practice, Zach moved up to 9th.

you people are out of your minds if you think it's safe to send factory kids out there in the B practice.

let me give you an example; at loretta's they mixed the schoolboy 2 and 250 c in the same practice. his brother Chase was running into people all over the place. the c riders were 5-10 seconds a lap slower, which resulted in him taking a hard digger and being out for the whole week.

you're the same guys that think if Caroli or Herlings came over they should be in the B practice too.
