.
Thirty years ago it was pick up trucks, vans, box vans, campers and motor-homes. I never even went down to Area 3 back then.

Now it's full blown Race Haulers / Semis, 5th Wheel Trailers, Class A & Class C MH's., on down the line. Vendors and Support Teams now have Semi rigs taking up more & more space. This year spectators were having to park off the edge of the County road.

Don't get me wrong it's a great place, but I wonder how long can the facility continue to handle the ever growing "Racer" transportation of the modern day racer?

Just my observations from this year and reflecting back on the first LL's 30 years ago....

Time fly's when you are having fun!

It is amazing what people think they "need" to race these days. After doing it for years, I have come to the conclusion that dragging all of that crap with you makes it less fun. There is something great about just throwing the bike gear and cooler in the truck and going racing.

People stay there for a week or two, your truck and a cooler wouldn't work.

Yes, MXsports has taken the lead in professionalizing childrens racing. Unfortuately we pick up the tab not the factories.

I realize that but they drag the same stuff to the local races. My comment was meant more in general.

That is all fine when it is you and your son, or you and a couple buddies. Moms and daughters have a gereral dislike of bathing in the creek or week old portapotties. They are funny like that.

Totally AGREE. Keep it simple stupid (KISS). Easy to pack up and leave.

I really hate to think of it leaving Loretta's but I think it's coming. IMO it will be here.

reason being mainly the hook-ups but they have quite the overall setup
The DuQuoin State Fair has its own campground located at the north end of the fairgrounds.
•Over 1,000 hookups with water and electric.
DuQuoin City Water Dept. Electrical hookup for
each trailer: Three wire grounded - 30 amps.
Adapters available for a standard receptacle.
•2 bath houses with toilets and showers
•Dump station
•Unlimited primitive camping
•Paved roads for biking and walking

I raced it in '82.

Kawaski brought out the Team Green Semi. We raced '83 Kawi's in the Mod's class. How? I dunno. They were pre-prods...

So, while it's true that things have changed a bit...I think it's actually getting BETTER.

That track is ran by the McWilliams family from Alabama. They have Mill Creek and Ponca City also. I don't see them getting that race, a regional maybe.

It's gotten out of hand but if you have the money for it why not. I am jealous and would love to have one of those big rigs filled with bikes for my kids to ride and an unlimited budget. My wife's company got into sponsoring some motocross kids (outside vendor with nothing to do with bikes) and when her big bosses came to check up on her their mouths hit the ground at Loretta's when they seen all those big rigs and sponsors. They realized we were not full of shit and that it could work!

LL Ranch will be the site of the new southeast National, consecutively with the current Amateur National week.

You heard it here first! Cool

I have heard this to but as similar to this thread , I do not think LL has the space to accomodate a pro national. There are only a few thousand people there for LL's and it packed, just think if 20,000 showed up.

Do not discount this rumor. I am pretty sure MXsports was invloved in building this IndianHills track.

The talk is that when Loretta Lynn herself passes that the rest of the family is done with having racing at the ranch so the vision is to have a back up ready and in place which is what Indian Hills could be.

Interesting... When I spoke to Sissy and Patsy Lynn last week (Loretta's daughters) they both seemed really interested in keeping the race there for a very long time -- at least the five years left on the contract.

Loretta Lynn's Ranch has a few thousand more acres. I think there's room to grow, though the entries are capped at 1,486, I believe.

Never been to this place in Illinois you guys have mentioned here, sounds like a cool facility.

Less pit vehicles the carbon monoxide level in the pits had to be very close to dangerous at times. And please don't say the ranch is centered in the middle of the country 2200 mi from the westcoast. Other then that everything was great as ussual.

No worries, been hearing the not-coming-back rumor since 1983, so it's kind of an annual ritual to wait and see when this rumor pops up each year. Just comes with the territory, I guess...

yea, thanks. I would recommend checking it out sometime though. might be a sweet back up plan if anything ever falls thru. I really hope it stays at the Ranch for a very long time though, just wouldn't be the same elsewhere

I was there in 82 in a Chevy S-10 pickup, Camped with my buddy. They had a class C Winnebago and an open rail trailer.

I do remember Shaun Kalos had a big ol fancy bus all decked out. He was way ahead of the times.

I think the Lynn family makes some good money off of the Ranch. They have a lot of events there during the year.

Indeed, there are always going to be families who will do anything and everything to chase the dream. Davey, do you feel allowing riders to attend unlimited areas and regionals contributes to the home-skoold, travel the country, risk everything financially for MX lifestyle?
