Not to ruin the thread or anything, but Gretzky never made a comeback. After he retired in 1999 he never came back. Except to coach.

I'm not sure if he ever lost his speed.I think once you're fast you're always fast just whether you're in shape or not.Is RC 100% now? I doubt it but he's a good 90% and 90% of RC is faster than most at 100%.You should see him do the finish
line @ LL's...I watched him make the jump ten laps in a row and I still think its impossible to make.
what is he doing through the finish line section

Same thing with Everts who retired in 2006. At his race last week he battled with guys like Van Horebeek, Tixier, De Dycker and others. His speed is still good.

For a one off national? That wouldn't be that much of a stretch or hard for him to get ready to do one and I'm sure his never say die (never lose) attitude would kick in and he could still easily podium ..... It wouldn't be that hard to say he could win one if be raced the last few. Would be the ONLY factory Suzuki on the line.

I've heard more than a few times that H&H are riding Suzuki's next year, with RC overseeing things even heard a faint mention twice about them testing with j-law. RC is a monster rider for life and rockstar threw big money to Suzuki for that team. Speculatively speaking I wonder if monster will be. A part of H&H and if that will conflict with Suzuki's main cash cow rockstar....this is all speculation pure speculation, can't wait to see what H&H rolls out for next year. One thing I wonder about is even w/o a monster conflict I doubt H&H will be getting factory Suzuki support most likely an A level pc made rmz450 assuming they left Kawi bec they wanted credit for H&H's team but Kawi wouldn't give them hardly any support especially with Dean Wilson going to JWR and he'll be getting a factory ride w/ another factory bike if pourcel comes back to Tue US.

We have several doubters over here but yes I would imagine Everts still has his speed as does RC.If Mike Brown and John Dowd (sp?) can come race a national and run in the top ten then I think (my opinion) that RC could podium in the next race.
I know Dungey and Alessi can finish 30-40 seconds ahead of the third place guy but from second back there isnt that much speed being shown.I would love to see Everts and RC race against each other again...Two of my all-time favorites.

What do you mean RC is a Monster rider for life? Didn`t they pull their support for RC`s Nascar deal? Rockstar doesn`t support Suzuki anymore(two years already)

Trey is my favorite rider now but RC and Everts were before I knew who Trey Canard was and since
they both have retired I had to have someone to yell for.Besides I see so much of RC when I watch Trey ride..I
got to see them both ride at the ranch this week...AWESOME!!!!!!!

His last race was actually September 2007 where he went 2-1 for the MXDN MX1 overall at Budds Creek. First moto he came from a first turn crash to take second not to far behind Chad Reed. Checked the second moto. He was far from his usual race shape as he raced part time in supercross and moto due to his transition to cars. You could visibly tell RC had not been training the same as he did during his reign and he still waxed ass. Decoster has probably ran it by him.. Slim chance but I wouldn't bet against the GOAT, he had people doubt him his whole career, and well you see how that turned out. Woohoo

Would be awesome story line if team Belgium needed a MX3 rider @ none other than SE72 stepped up for his country to fill the slot,, can only dream. Smile

How many times does RC himself have to specifically say that he is NOT coming back and his "pro" racing days are over? Seems some people just can not accept it.

Let the dude have some fun and enjoy retired / family life. He already gave us more than almost any rider in the history of the sport.

The OP said he read in Racer-x that he could be a wild card for mx3 at the MXoN...Nowhere did he say that RC was making a comeback.

I stated that after watching RC ride at the ranch I thought he could be on the box at the next national...Nowhere did I say he was making a comeback into pro racing.

I was happy to get to see him ride again. nothing more...nothing less.

I said it to jerk peoples chains and it got erased. Smile RC has given and continues to give, he is the greatest this sport has ever seen and scottie you cannot fault people wanting to see more of him. The guys is magic on a bike and there is a large contingent that would like to see him line up at a national again, same goes for Everts.

And on a sand track like Lommel it might just kill him. Not even the GOAT has ridden a circuit like that place, 100% fit or not.

for sure;
Dungey-450
Bagget-250

wildcards-
Stewart-450
Barcia-450/250
Tomac-250

I would put Barcia on the team on a 450 before Alessi...his starts will be golden and he has proven he hauls ass on a 450.

Is someone trying to bait RC into riding the MXDN? Not undervaluing Lommel, but Ricky was 14-0 on the big bikes at Southwick. He's probably retained most of those go-fast skills, and betting against him in the sand has paid poorly in the past. And sand, like mud, is a great equalizer.

If there's a time and place for a one-off "comeback", this is it. But Ricky doesn't want it, and it would be a disservice to those paying their dues in the nationals. But it's fun to speculate.

I think RC digs some still crave for a return, means people think he still "has it". Can't be to bad to hear that tune when you are still racing (at least at some extent).

At some point it will become really ridiculous, and even the most optimistic will die off.

I guess were are not there yet...

If we're going by lap times, Shane Mcelrath had a 1:50. And as far as the jump he was hitting at the finish, There were quite a few riders doing the same thing. RC is the Goat, and will always be one of the greatest to swing a leg over a bike, but to say he could podium (even if all of the fast guys, including Dungey, were out) is a huge stretch in my opinion.

Right. Because you're the guy who flamed out and said goodbye a while ago. Poking your head in to try and kick a hornet's nest doesn't make for a quality post.

I think you're good on your first two.

I don't see Stewart being considered at this point unless there are injuries to other contenders between now and the MXoN. I've also heard that he's not sweating about whether he's in the mix for selection or not. James is also not coming back until Unadilla at the earliest. They do want to hit the last three rounds strong, though.

It's good trouble that we have so many options to work through.

Odd not sure why it wouldn't have gone through, I just asked what it was you were refering to when you said I flamed out and said goodbye? If you check my history Idon't recall having done either. I have been known to poke the hornets nest every now and then.

Are you mistaking me for someone else?

Not trying to hijack this thread.

RC never ran a 1:50...Get your facts straight before you call someone out........
Look at the Top 50 fastest racers by laptime here: ........ http://lorettas12.tracksideresults.com/laptimes.asp

He is still a boss, but his glory days are over...wake up man. Just like when you said he was hitting the "impossible" section. Guess what, a bunch of other guys were hitting it. Did you watch anyone other than RC or were you so stuck in the good ole days you were seeing the event through blinders?
