Curious about the 47mm Showas for this year. They show up from time to time relatively inexpensively. Picked up an 08 KTM xc, and the first year closed chamber WP were problematic that year. Emig racing does a Showa conversion triple clamp for the KTM's in that era, and it's a relatively reasonable alternative to the standard fixes, and tmore than a few folks say is a big improvement over the WP's even when fixed.

Were they the same base forks as the Showas on the Hondas?

They are great forks, and a great base, but the 08's had structural/design issues that were addressed in the 09 on. I don't have a problem with the WP's per se, and had them worked really well on my 03's, which were another notoriously bad year with a new internal design. I'm about 15 minutes from Dicks, so I have a great option at my doorstep. But my post was asking for specific feedback about another option. I think we can all agree that more information about choices is better than less. If I sink a chunk of change into them I doubt I'll get it more when I sell them than I could now.

They are the same basic fork as the Honda just with differences in valving, a different spring seat and I don't think the compression valve has the lo speed valve like the Honda. Minor differences

Mike alessi is using 47mm showa forks with mb1 valving and they seem to be extremely well.. no flaws in those suzuki forks i think

My son had a 08/09 450 and we could never get the forks to work very well. Just our experience.

How about the Honda Showas? Are the forks form the CRF's and the CRFx's basically the same fork with different valving to vary track vs trail settings, or are there material differences in the design.

Curious, too, when, the major design change years were. Tried to do some digging on the internet, but did find anything definitive.

Idk about the NEW stuff as i think its all kayaba

the 04-07 CR 250's have the same suspension as the CRF and CRFx other than the valving..

I dont think the suzuki showa stuff is really that much different or less quality...

showa rules!!

Showa went to the big valve piston around '04 so you want nothing older or you get the small 25mm(?) piston. The CRF x's have a lower line fork without the internal fork coatings. I would stick with CRF or RMZ forks.
