Just started last weekend. Bad ass fun. I know Cygnus is on this. What about the rest of ya'?

Gotta admit it's cool coming from an MX background....not much rattles our cage. With little fear, it's easy to get the hang of things.

It's a friggin' blast. Can't believe how much fun it is. No, I'm nowhere near what that guy's doing. Last weekend was my first time. I'm hoping by year's end I'm clearing the wake.

I used to do it when my brother had a boat. I always loved the full body cramps the next day due to using muscles that somehow never got utilzed during other physical acitivties. I was never in more pain than after a day of wakeboarding and I was probably only 25 at the time.

I was told that when I first start trying to jump the wake, shorten the line so the wake I'm crossing is smaller. I imagine there's a trade off in speed because of the shortened line. We're just figuring out the boat, too....speed, trim....so we get the best wake out of it.

I read a few comments that I should pull off the small keels that are on my board. But, then I look at some of the vids of guys like Parks, and their boards have permanent keels formed as part of the board.

I also bought a ski, but I haven't tried it yet. It's this really fat ski. Probably more like a wake ski. I just wanted to get up on the water quickly and have fun before getting equipment that's more for the experienced. We'll try it this weekend.

I used to wakeboard a bit. It was fun. I was not great but I could jump wake to wake and do a few tricks. Shoulders can't really take it anymore.

Kiteboarding on the other hand. If you ever head to South Texas, check out the shop in my sig for lessons. You will love it.

I'll share a little experience....if you eat grain, dairy, starches, or legumes, you'll find yourself experiencing more muscle/joint pain than you would if you didn't eat that stuff. Not saying it makes ALL pain go away, but it really makes a huge difference.

I've had multiple knee injuries and repairs (ACL's, MCL's, meniscus damage). When I eat grain, my knees hurt like hell. When I don't, they feel like they did back when I was 20. Dead serious. My whole body feels different. Try it for 3 months (Paleo diet). You will likely be very happy/surprised.

Do not remove the fins! And you will never get any good unless you can get out on some good water. chop field on a Sunday is no way to learn. I hope you can pull a few vacation days during the week and we can go to pueblo. I can do the wake to wake with a 360 wrap. That is about as good as I have done. I have attempted a air raily a few times but I always do it as a end of run trick and it a good one to remove my board instead if fighting to get it off.

I have old school boots that ate tighter than a ducks ass. So crashing is the best way to get it off when tired.

No Chopfield for wakeboarding for this boy. We might be heading to Horsetooth for next Saturday. If I burn vacation days, I'll probably go to Powell. The canyons are always good.

We had a cable park next to my house when I was a kid in the 1980's before wakeboards but we rode everything from skateboard decks to Mcdanald trays some days. Multi time wake board champ Darrin Shapiro and I grew up together and I was actually following him on a mini bike trying to keep up to him on a rm 60 and caught my first ever air accidently while following. I went straight home and got my parents to follow me back there to watch me again and again. His parents were pro skiers and so was he and we surfed our whole childhoods, then came wakeboards and with living on the water most my life we wakeboarded every single day when they first came out. I had them weld an eye for the ski rope on the top of my fishing tower boat for wakeboarding. We only do it a few times a year these days but its fun. Kiteboarding too. Good times. My riding buddy is pro wake guy.

Skateboard decks and McDonald's trays....now that's how it worked when I grew up. I mean, we'd use anything we could to have fun. Seems like nowadays that doesn't happen so much.

Cool story ya' got.

Yep, It is my second love to MX. I have a Malibu VLX with a few thousand extra pounds in water weight. If you're older and like softer landing boards look at Slingshot boards. Their Flex boards are a whole lotta fun.

As for fins - Depends on the board and which fins you are referring to. I like looser boards so usually don't rock a center fin on any board. My SS Recoil has fins at the corners but no other features on the bottom. They rely on edges fors grip. There is no one answer try removing them for a set and see what you like.
Biggest advice? Palms down and "Handle to front hip". You don't crank at the wake you start slow and build tension for more pop. Knees slightly bent and straighten them at the top of the wake. Cranking it in as hard as you can is a total recipe for disaster. Take a look at www.learnwake.com for the best advice out there.....................

No fins needed, just channels and toe to heal rail to rail. We got good at riding finless because they did not last long railsliding docks and john boats. I am just glad to be alive. HaHa Good times.

My buddies and I would put 100hrs a year on our boats wakeboarding back in the day. I have bad knees and I'm 1 concussion from the "short bus" so we all wake surf now. It's lots of fun but you need a inboard/v-drive to do it. And a shit load of ballast in the boat. ONce I got the hang of surfing behind the boat I don't wakeboard much anymore.

Me too. Once a person spends a bit of time behind the boat and can "throw down", the hits you take are brutal as water in non compressable. It feels like concrete when you miss the tranny or land way out in the flats when attempting and invert or spin trick and you don't stomp your landing like a BOSS. Anyhow, sorry for the thread hijack. I would suggest wearing a skateboard helmet once you get the skill up to really pop off the wake and go out to the flats/ride the long line on either edge. In 2009 I got 3 concusions in 2 weeks trying to lean switch frontside backrolls. Since then its wake skating and wake surfing for our family behind the boat.

Uhhh WTF is a "frontside backroll"? You mean a toeside backroll? They make wake specific helmets but there is alot of debate as to whether they work or not. I have a Capix but rarely wear it.............another tip is learn toesdie before any inverts. It's not cool being a "heelside hero"....................fundamentals are key in wb'ing.....................

Never tried it, looks fun as hell. I've never jet-skiied or personal watercraft either. I've lived a sheltered life.

Chief, you need to try it. And, definitely try something like a Sea Doo. Ride it standing up like you would a dirt bike. Big chop turns into an MX track that's moving.

Haven't been out in a couple years but my board mocks me in my garage every day.

Hoping to do wakemaui.com in November and give wake surfing a try.

I'm a snowboarder by heart so we may call our tricks different names. So what i mean is a "fakie" or" switch" attempt at a back roll off the heel edge against the wake of the boat, rather than the toe edge, if that make any sense, lol. I'm not a " heelside hero" but its way easier, the hardest toe edge trick I could do would be a frontside 360" with handle pass. My favorite trick is just a big old method heelside out into the flats.

Yea I been slammed way to many times. Air Raleys did me in, Last summer I took a good digger, 72' rope went big and landed on a roller opposite side, snapped my Watson but not completely in 2, just all layers on bottom but enough that the board flexed and I caught my heelside edge. You know what happened next. Wasn't pretty.

Thats a cool looking boat man, looks sweet for its age.
This was ours,

2010 Sea Doo Challenger wake 210 weith 310hp, I had it tricked out with 3000lbs ballast all over the boat, it took me an entire summer to get it set-up to really throw a big surf wake though, but the price was right..lol I worked at a BRP dealer for 5 years and it was my demo as we sold Sea Doo boats. I moved dealerships this winter so I'll have to find a older used boat for this sumer, I'm looking at Mastercraft Pro Star 205s but have not made the move to hand over my money yet, still looking for the perfect one.....
