another thing that i spotted on the hangtown show, and again yesterday on tv, was the UTVs driving around the edge of the track. and its not the medical units either. its the thor parts unlimited guys I THINK. why the F do they need to be driving around while racing is going on? 1. that has to be distracting to riders and 2. what happens when that guy hits the gas instead of brakes, or some other similar accident. the ones i noticed on TV were so close to the track, what if the rider got out of control and slammed into the side of the UTV?
Saw the same thing going on at TV yesterday. Even said WTF to my pal I went with.

This isn't anything new, it's been going on for years. There are the pro photogs who know what they are doing, and they aren't the problem. The problem is all the yahoos with their Sony sure shots, home video cams, and now GoPros who don't know wtf they're doing and are only trying to get cool shots for themselves. Plus, they are INSIDE the fence on a hot track. Really insane, and now since there are so many of those idiot fleas out there, somebody is gonna get hurt or worse. Let the pros who know what they are doing, and working for REAL publications inside the fence, and keep the wannabe Kodak Karl's on the outside with the general public where they belong. If a serious, credentialed photog pulls a dumb ass move by crossing a hot track in front of a rider during a race, then his credential should be pulled permanently. Period.

I do expect High Point and future races will be a little less pleasant for photogs...and that we'll be in the media tent at 8:00 sharp next week for a safety meeting.

The rider who Big James reported in the second moto was called to the AMA truck, mid-moto, and got a good dressing down.

Maybe they should limit the number of guy's with Vests ?
It's been a lot tighter this year Jay.

I was leaving town yesterday and a horse got loose and was running full speed the wrong way up the off ramp to the freeway.

This was so unusual that I almost ran the red light. When the brain is focused it is very possible to confuse it in a split second.

Sure James was going to crash this year, but these circumstances are unusual to say the least.

I'm just saying I completely get it when James say's he was distracted and crashed.

Saw one yesterday going up a jump during intermission and all the trash they were carrying dumped out onto the track, people yelled at them to take notice of what they did so they looked back and just kept on going.

After the wind destroyed a lot of the banners, there was stuff to clean up all over the track.

Surprised there wasn't more easy ups blowing around. It was funny to see them all retracted to two feet off the ground with 20 people each hiding out. Smile

That was some scary shit! seen a banner (should have gotten a video of it) whipping back and forth with the wooden stakes still in it. Could have easily impaled someone

If I had payed for the VIP tents I would have been pissed! Evacuate the hospitality tents during the worst part of the storm was just to much.

I agree, we were hanging in the "open to all" Vickery Motorsports tent. They did not make us evacuate. Thanfully, as I left the rain gear at home. Ooops.

Under the Vickery hospitality tent, the big white one that was right behind you, They gave us all the pop, water and skittles we wanted. my Grandsons and Daughter were having a blast.

Had a cool discussion with Bill the owner of Vickery, guess he does that hospitality every year and it pays off. good to hear that he was doing well

So if JS7 didn't crash, would the guy still be considered a moran?

It would be a matter of extensive testing and probing to come to a complete disclosure of his intellect

+1

It a downed rider was laying on the track its a good bet James would not have paid much attention........Instead a guy in street clothes on the track scrambles the brain for just a second..........and that may be enough on a 4th gear severely rutted straight.

And whats the requirement to be on the track as photographer? Is it nothing more than being the shooter for Uncle Jim's MX Newsletter?

So what do you suggest? That they tell them to stay in place and apologize if the wind took them down and injured people? Did you hear about the disaster at the Indiana fairgrounds last summer? Even Sugarland is getting sued on that one.

The media tent got evacuated...and with good reason. Most of the stakes on the windward side were moving, and/or ready to come loose. They barely kept that one from going down. The sign inside it (before the "action" started) looked like this.

They did the right thing.

I think it's much ado about nothing. I say just go over track etiquette with all the photogs, so that the foreign or less experienced guys are aware of the potentials of effecting the race, or worse yet, getting themselves or a rider injured. Would this even be an issue if James hadn't had crashed? Of course not.

Well, that changes things slightly I am sure, GuyB.

Old Fart, that is when it is so windy that random debris is flying around the track at velocities capable of severing limbs. Wink

I know it was dangerous and probably not a good place to be. I just said I would have been pissed.

I'm not an engineer by any means but do you think a tent has a better chance of taking flight with no people in it or a packed house so that the wind has less volume to pickup the tent?

I do think that the people that were downwind where tent might have landed would have been a lot less safe than the people that were under it when it takes flight.

This is a good logic. Because of one or a few, you punish everyone instead of punishing the individual.
