Maybe a forced facebook connection to your vital profile may cull some of the divs

why not just enforce the Vital MX Posting Rules?

warn and/or click the abusers and eventually it will get better, but to continue to allow the same people to do the same things and then periodically put up one of these types of threads does nothing to solve the problem.

as already mentioned, this forum paints a real good picture of the mx community, it does us proud (sarcasm alert)..

you either want to change it, or you continue to allow it to go as it has, it isn't rocket surgery..

I've never found a forum that didn't degrade into a cluster if it wasn't moderated pretty strictly following the "issues not individuals" policy. [meaning no personal attacks.]

Go to a gun forum like AR-15.com where they have over 300,000 members and usually over 3000 people online at once and post "STFU noob you stupid fucking asshole" and see how long you last there.

Facebook sucks.

I think a couple more mods, plus a 'report post' button at the bottom of each post, would help a lot. Like Terry says, it's impossible for 3 guys to read each post in this place as it's posted - by the time something out of line is seen, the shit is well past the fan. At least the report button would get a mods attention as soon as possible - then he can decide if it's OK or needs flushed.

Or we could delegate some new Daves...

The whole "STFU Noob" thing was used to keep people in check, by other guys that had been around a while and had a clue. The board moderated itself, somewhat.

Now, not so much.

I think a standard "STFU noob" for anyone who walks in the door is unnecessary, though there are clearly some people who could benefit from it. On the other hand, I know some people who'd have been a valuable asset to the forum who got turned off by this.

These days some of the veterans here could really benefit from an occasional STFU.

Hey, who doesn't need that once in a while? Seems like their used to be a relatively well known group of "senior" members that got some respect, and/or demanded it. That is impossible to achieve now with the hoards of, well, you know...

I say this as a noob myself, relatively speaking.

Then it's a moderators place to post that not some forum member. All that leads to is the masses pissing back and forth.

And not so literal....it's personal attacks, not the actual content, that I was pointing out.

of yeah speech!

i didnt see anything really wrong today, I have to admit!!!

I made some observations, others made there own... its called a discussion/Debate.... its what should be encouraged. what the hell else were we supposed to do during and hour delay... discuss how well brayton did?

I think my comments in some other threads grouped me in the "js7 hater" crowd and that couldnt be further from the truth... I am a super fan of moto... I dont love or hate any rider, but, sure we have our favorites!!! I want every rider out there competing... stewart, Reed, Villo, Dunge, and Trey!!!!

I hope one day we can all distinguish from good spirited debate, and "hating" or "nut hugging!" what are we a bunch of 7th grade girls or something???

I want to see some friggin good ass racing, and all that happened today was a probably boring JS7 run away to a now more than obvious RD5 runaway and the ensuing astrisk comments if he seals the deal on the championship!

any who... I hope James isnt really hurt bad and can come back and make this title chase a good one!!!

Freedom of speech protects you from criminal prosecution from things you say. It doesn't mean you can say anything you want without some form of consequence. Freedom of speech really doesn't exist in a moderated forum imo.

This is always about one thing and one thing only, Stewarts oversensitive, rabid fans. They create more drama and divisiveness around here than any thing else. If someone even questions Stewart or isn't constantly giving praise to him, they run in and yell "racist" and "hater".

In my opinion some of them need to be cut so we can have some peace around here. GuyB, you have allowed them to take over this place. Your quick to clip other fans, but no one who is a Stewart fan ever seems to be clipped. It's making you seem biased by many on here. You yourself seem a little over sensitive at times regarding anything to do with Stewart too, sorry, just calling it like I see it.

Let's all face it, this thread would not exist if JS wasn't racing the nationals and his fans weren't constantly picking fights with people.

I owned/ran a forum for 5 years [non-moto] and the one thing I learned was that if we only moderated when things really went to hell, things went to hell more quickly and often then when it was moderated consistently. Consistently meaning stupid crap isn't allowed. Period.

If I want to say I think rider XYZ is a childish ass that's washed up, that's fine. What's not fine is someone calling me an asshole for thinking what I do or me doing the same to them. We're free to disagree and debate the issue but not be disrespecting of each other personally.

Just look at some of the posts on the JS crash...... if some people are so petty that can't disagree on how they interpret the incident without calling someone an ass that has never raced/asshole/fuckheasd/etc. do you really want to babysit those people here? Hey you're the Admin and the board will be exactly what you let it be.

I get that. I can't do it 25/8. Some ability to self-admin/self-censor is needed from the population. Smile

Guy B , Just enforce the rules , Go look at the non moto section its says and I quote "Non-Moto
This room's for whatever else is on your mind that's not moto-related. But how about we skip religion and politics from now on? I'm sure you can probably find specialty forums for those hot-button topics"

But you go it there and every other thread is a political thread posted by one or two members, but the rules are not enforced so why do you think anyone is going to take you seriously when its only a few times a year when you get fed up that anything changes. I say get rid of non moto all together and enforce the rules in the moto section. otherwise why even have any rules

Steve,

I agree but they do go hand in hand most the time don’t they?

I understand what you are saying; all I can do is assume that you are talking about the James crash discussion that occurred in the Race thread yesterday. I didn’t see any stupid/racist/degrading comments for the most part. I believe that they were, generally speaking, opinions on what occurred and as stated what else were we supposed to do for an hour swap cookie recipes?

GuyB,

Tell Swap from TWMX to STFU and that his magazine sucks anyways. He's just saying that because you're a competitor.
While I do agree alot of the threads here get out of hand, its probably no worse than any traditional sports forum.

My experience on the MX message boards over the years for the most part has been positive. The friends made across the country has also been positive. Everyone that I have meet in person (regardless of their online persona) are straight up good people.

IMO, the total disrespect for Guyb, DC, and others online is awful. These guys work in an industry that we all cherish with real projects and deadlines. The reports from these guys is always on point. Their dedication to work is I would guess is the same that most of you have at your jobs. How difficult would your jobs be with thousands of people starting rumors, talking shit, and coming to your work place and causing problems that you had to clean up?

Would it be so difficult for the members here to just police themselves and have respect for others opinions?

I've kind of noticed a new condition i'll refer to as computer enhanced attention deficit disorder or CEADD for short. Over the last few months, it has seemed that the number of posts in a topic has shortened to approximately 3-5 before any one topic gets derailed. Usually into another JS attack. Example, this one only took 1 post after the opening post. Some suffer from the condition more than others. No known cure at present.

I got this from a friend of mine whose opinion I respect. Most of you are familiar with his work in the industry (and no, I'm not going to name him).

I assume some of today's posts are the reason for it, but you can read for yourself.

I think Vital MX has completely gotten out of control. (And this is NO reflection on you AT ALL).

I just can’t believe motocross fans – a sport we all share a common love for – talk/type the way they do to each other on the Vital site.

(My #1 chat site).

It’s just so sad.

It just keeps getting worse and worse and worse.

One post will start out reasonably well (or very well intended) and then, duly, person gets attacked with this crazy mob mentality.

I guess it’s easy to brave (or a TOTAL asshole) on Vital when one is sitting behind a keyboard of a PC/Mac, but come on… Be a man and try, at least to the best of your ability, to ask or answer a question without being a damn cyber punk.

I’m sure it’s all VERY trying, but keep up the good work, Steve.

Feel free to post this.
I received a note about this thread and message GuyB posted.
I didn't leave because I was mad at anyone or mad at GuyB/Vital, I still advertise here, but I left because of the stupidity and lack of boundaries people have. It's as if people have no boundaries or respect for riders, media or people who bust their ass in this industry you all claim to love. Industry folks on the inside tell you what reality is, what the truth is, what the facts are, and many of you want to fight and argue with them.
I decided I was over it, I am over it, I grew tired and am tired of people saying things with no basis in fact, just making things up about riders, parents, teams, companies, etc...just make it up! No reality at all, and when someone tries to impart some fact and reality to the discussion, they're met with attacks.
So fine, live in your distorted imaginary reality of MX and the industry, because it's become obvious that's what many of you want.

Well I finally joined VITAL, this thread drove me so nuts I had to join and post..BTW if I don’t get a STFU then I will be hurt…It’s called tradition, if there are people who get their feeling hurt by that, then they need to find another sport to follow.

Let me get this straight, you start a public message board, one that its members are primarily Moto/supercross fans and you’re upset/surprised that they are so opinionated, type A, or just a little crazy that they attach each other when they are passionate about a subject. This is like going to a soccer match in England and getting upset because you see people drinking beer and chanting for their team. WHAT DID YOU EXPECT!

If you wanted a forum where everyone was just like you, only posted what you think is fit for the internet, only spoke to each other with the same pleasant discourse that is acceptable to those with thinnest skin, then you should probably use some type of prescreening filter/test for becoming a member. (Probably wouldn’t be worth one’s time, profitable or interesting)
I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any Moderation on these sites, there clearly has to be. I love this site because for the most part its members are like me, love dirt bikes and love the sport, couldn’t imagine living without either one. But let’s face it I love dirt bikes because I’m an opinionate, type A person and yes a little crazy. If I wasn’t I wouldn’t have ever thrown a leg over a bike, and I certainly wouldn’t ever thought to myself, “you know I should do; huck myself and bike over that 50 foot gap.”
If you don’t like what the person is saying, or they get so far out of hand that if offends you, click them and be done with it, do not need the better than thou threads to explain your feelings.

Now I will give myself one for the long winded post. STFU noob!

Bravo, and a great first post....... Hit the nail on the head for the most part. I have been thinking it's like someone who moves next to an airport and bitches about the noise.....

And unfortunately unlike what flarider is saying, you don't get truth or reality half the time from the supposed industry insiders and then you get Guyb and the admin/mods being disrespectful and rude to the customers and they wonder why the place gets egged and toilet paper'd all the time.........

Oh and STFUBUTTZITNOOB
