Its about a 5 hour drive north, then a ferry ride for 3 hours, then a 2hr drive from there Hando.
Its at a wee town called Sanson.
Otherwise its a 1hr flight away from Chch airport (To Plamerston North)
-Did you finally make it to Timaru?

not really true, but we tend to like more work experince than college degrees,

NZ has alot of good places to ride, and it is cheap to do, esp if you get in with the right people so the private land comes up for use,

i came across a forum called expats abroad and it was a site dedicated to foreigners living in NZ (mostly US and UK transplants) and they made the place sound like a horror story and that kiwis hated americans.....it really bummed me out because my friend from NZ is a good guy and the stories i read made you guys sound like a bunch of mongrols. check it out for yourself Sad

Every photo / vid ive seen of the hill riding in NZ makes me want to go there and shovel lips all day Smile one day, maybe soon!

What do you do for a profession Hando?
If you are in the right circles, everyone respects ya, I doubt many people who ride offroad have had a hard time in this country, its like one big family.

I think internet forums like that spread the bad experiences of a few, and not the good times of the many, the dirt bike community down here is pretty small, and very accomadating, and pretty well connected in a lot of areas as well,

I think around 3/4 of the population lives in the North Island, so finding a job in your field would probably be easier up here. I am surprised you have heard those stories about new Zealander's. Most people here are quite accepting of foreigners, as long as they are good people and work hard (I would have thought anyway). I wouldn't let that forum you read put you off.

I have only ridden in the South Island once (have been there twice), so I can't really comment on what the riding is like down there. I can say that there are a lot of cool tracks in the North Island though. Most (not all) tracks only hold race meetings on the weekend's and open infrequently for practice, so finding places to practice can be difficult. Some do sell/hire track keys so you can practice whenever you want. There is a lot of farmland in NZ, so there are a lot of private tracks around, but you usually need to be a friend (or a friend of a friend) of the owner to ride there. There isn't really many places you can just go and ride under your own steam like in the U.S., as virtually all land is either privately owned or National Parks (where riding is prohibited). Legally anyway.

Hope this helps.

I was in Newplymoth (Spelling) for work, and Darryl Hurles lined me up a RMZ 450 from his shop and took me riding on his private track but the next day we went out to this farm, he cut a sick track in the green cow pasture with natural jumps it was the most fun I have ever had riding.
NZ rules for motox.

We then stopped and drank some Tui bro!!

Hurley can still twist and shift too...

Auckland, (where i live) or wellington is best for the sort of work you are looking at, prob Auckalnd, riding is pretty good around here but better further dwon the island, but 3 hours is considered a massive drive around here and there would be at least 30 different places to ride in that area,

like said above i was suprised to hear that people didnt like foreigners,

What a class act.
Hurley is still the fastest outdoor lites rider in NZ when he wants to be I reckon.
Tui Bru!

Hando- South island has a better landscape, more lord of the rings like, however their off road events are a bit shit and less of them..
In the north island there are multiple events every weekend, on a busy weekend the north island has more events than the south island has in an entire year..
-Check out the off road events coming up here: http://silverbullet.co.nz/events.php
