Hey Guys,

We were lucky enough to pick up a 1980 YZ250 and 1972 Pursang MK6 172 for $500.00 that was sitting in a guys garage for years. There was so much dust on them you couldn't even see what color they were. Anyways, I need to put a rod kit in the YZ but am having a hard time finding one for it. I called Hot Rod's, Crank Works, and a couple other companies and they only make the kits going back to 1983 (which won't work for the 1980). They all told me to contact Yamaha and order a OEM one from them, so I called Yamaha. They discontinued the rod kit so I can't get it from them.

Does anybody know of a company where I can buy one or know of anyone that has one laying around that we can buy? Any help would be much appreciated!

Is the 80 and 81 the same part number? I bought one through Yamaha about 4 -5 years ago for my 81 model. I'm going to pm you a contact name so check your e-mail.

I'm not sure if it is or not. I was just told that a complete rod 1996 Rod kit with work, you just have to replace the whole kit so I think we're going to give that a shot.

Motosport claims to have the kit in stock, but I've had issues where Motosport claims to have access to parts when they actually don't. Guess you could call to confirm.

Here's a connecting rod on Ebay that claims to fit a YZ250G, possibly you could pick the other parts up elsewhere?

When I rebuilt my 1981 YZ250H, I found a japanese off brand rod kit on ebay and it worked fine.

Good luck!

So what did you end up doing about the crank/rod?
