As for Stew doesnt look like he needs to improve on much LOL

I think both will get better as the season goes on but I give a slight edge to Dungey on consistency. Sure he may not carve through the field with reckless abandon, he tends to be more calculating and methodical than Stewart, but I'm sure in the back of his mind he is aware of Stewart's tendency to wad it up (may be a moot point since he looks to be more in harmony with the Suzuki than he was on the Yamahopper) and may be counting on the odds of Stewart actually not finishing every moto.
Stewart has always been a better outdoor rider than indoors and I think it shows as you said that he didn't appear to be pressured to the point of working so hard for the win.

It seemed to me that Stewart had quite a bit more to give if needed, both speedwise and physically. He also has to be feeling pretty confident about his prospects. I think the Suzuki is a great base for him, and they will fine tune it to fit him even better as the series goes on.

Dungey, has proven time and again that he will find a way to be competitive to the very end. Sometimes it works out for him sometimes not. I didn't think the KTM looked too bad out there, and in some parts of the track I thought it looked great. People just see what they want to see sometimes.

Anyway, I think Stewart has the most potential for improvement, and that's a very scary thought for his competition. But, like it's been said before, it will be minimizing mistakes (rider or machine) that will decide the champion. If they both stay healthy, I think we could be in for a great battle.

I think James has more room for improvement. Slightly. It's going to be a fight still for both of them. It's about managing mistakes.

Unless someone can really push stewart and have the chance of pressuring him into a mistake He's going to be unbeatable IMO.

I honestly think that Dungey will have to improve more if he wants the championship. I think that we will see him make the biggest strides this year. IMO KTM has a ton of development to do on that bike. Even indoors left me thinking that dungey wasn't satisfied with his machine, and at Hangtown you could sort of see that the bike has a ways to go.

The only reason I don't think James will improve more is because he didn't have to push the pace at Hangtown. No doubt James will improve but at this moment in time judging from Saturday James knows he can win by just riding at 90-95%. We have only seen one race, but the James of old would have tried to gap the field by 30+ seconds by riding over his head. He seems to be understanding that he doesn't have to do that anymore and he can pull those moments out when he has to.

Dungey's bike is unproven with zero baseline outdoors Stewart's bike, though revised, has a few years worth of outdoor setup data baseline(s).

Dungey's bike will improve a lot throughout the season. So will his comfort and results. I see Stewart hitting a plateau (albiet a damned big plateau!) relatively soon.

I think there is a lot of underestimating of Dungey going on. His lack of aggression to me seems like a very calculated move. He doesn't panic especially this early in the season. When we start getting to round 8 or 9 and he's just a few points back, I see him making some passes similar to what he did at Milleville (I think) last year.

I think if Dungey is going to improve much he needs to hit the gym. If he really is 5'10" and 150lbs its not a wonder it looks like he is struggling a bit in the rough stuff. James is 5'7 and 160. On bikes that weigh close to 250lbs full of fuel I just can't see what it would hurt Dungey to put on another 10-15 lbs of muscle and be able to throw the bike around a bit more. Stewart looked so smooth I'd say I can't see him showing much improvement with no one to push him.

Stewart will. While Dungey has been out broken, so was James, who also switched bikes. Regardless of whether or not he's had a Suzuki at his house all year.


Most of all, James' head was broken. He believed he couldn't ride the Yamaha fast, him and the bike didn't get along. Winning Hangrown, his confidence only grows. A more confident James Stewart is going to be a fun to watch, James Stewart.

Dungey starts clicking and we are rewarded with a great summer of racing!
