Really?

Dust?

Pullllllllease!
Dust on an oldschool track isn't so bad, but if you had to pick out ruts on the take off of 60ft+ jumps all around a track you might be a little more concerned.

I think the regular GP guys are a tough bread, the best of every country have problems to make it among these few. So if they feel for a need to boycott, which I haven't heard of before, I assume there is a good reason for it. I support a union in every field.

I have been a big Leib fan for a while. I always like to have an american rider to cheer for int he GPs and he seems like a good kid.

But.... Im a Union worker, and he crossed a picket line. There is NO excuse for this kind of action.

The fact that Deselle makes more money is a double sided argument. Deselle (or the other big dogs) standing up to the promoters and their own teams risked the most out of the situation. They could have lost all that money. Leib screwed up. He may have signed his own "rough pass ticket".

If Dungey, Stewie villa... and the rest had half the balls these riders do; maybe the privateers in our series would actually get paid better. Instead our american "heros" sit back and collect their big pay checks while some dude sleeps in the back of his van at the track. This argument should not be about ho makes more money when in fact the guys making the most money risked their necks to benefit ALL of the riders.

Im not a Leib basher. Like I said before I consider myself a fan. But this was a bad decision. He should have stood bye the other riders. Using the excuse of "bad gate pick" is simply taking advantage of all of the guys who were making a stand for safer conditions.

As for the "Is dust a safety issue?"..... Youtube WORCS race at glen helen 2012. Then imagine you are in mexico and you are not real confident about the level of medical treatment you will get if you do get hurt.

The riders that made a stand should be applauded.

To say he did it for a better gate pick is just crap,he is on one of the best bikes in the field and 21st on the gate would really be 11th as no way a mexican would beat that dixon yamaha. His knee injury should of also been another reason why less bike time would of been a good idea.He won himself no friends by going out and in the end getting the easy advantage didn't work out to well.I was a fan and i don't see why he didn't follow the lead of the regulars as his team mate simpson did.

Well, maybe Leib isn't a follower, but a racer. And I'm sure he's not there to make friends neither.

Max Anstie got spat on.

Just listening to Michael Leib on the pod cast - it seems the track wasn't anywhere near the best on Saturday, sounds like it was on the verge of being dangerous. ML himself basically said that it was "OK" but he could see both sides of the argument. I think the whole situation with being in Mexico along with (at least initially) a less than spectacular track really got to the riders. I also appreciate with Sebastien that the riders may not have communicated with him very well but really... I don't think they should go to places like Mexico in the first place. And it does now seem like that was at least part of it.

Where I really lose sympathy with the riders is through their treatment of ML and MA who decided to ride. I'm absolutely shocked that some of the established GP stars think it's OK to behave like this. Spitting at Max, flipping people off etc., disgraceful!
Exactly. How does one expect to be heard when they present themselves as the immature child who's not old and mature enough to sit at the adults table?

As Tortelli said... the MX2 guys didn't even take a site lap. They just looked at the track and said "it's too dangerous after we rode it a few hours ago." No attempt was made by the riders to WORK OUT a solution. It was typical, unprofessional, sporting bullshit. At least try and make a compromise before bitching out. The riders act like striking was the only way to get their message across. But maybe it was. I'm not in the paddock every weekend at the GP's.

I always laugh when safety is brought up. It's like races act like they arent the ones in control of the throttles.

There is nothing "safe" about MX. Oh the irony.

But as it's been alluded to by some, I dont think safety was the only issue here. There seems to be a groundswell of movement against YS from within the pits and the riders/teams are finally taking a stand. Mexico was just a symptom and probably wont be the last time. Just an observation.

You didn't read my post did you? That wasn't the only reason he raced... Also if you came out to california and practiced at say cahuilla or glen helen late in the day the track conditions are about for dust that was in mexico.

Leib said it himself. He is a racer and he was there to race. He was not there to cry about poor track conditions. He is paid to be on the track and ride a bike so he did his job. The other riders chose not to and in my mind should have not been paid. Simple as that. The riders that weren't riding stood up for what they believe in and Leib stood up for what he believes in.

The argument against the american "heros" sitting back and collecting their pay checks is ridiculous too. Those guys worked their asses off to get where they are. They have the skill and the determination so they make the big bucks. Yes it sucks that the privateers make less and work in harder conditions but that should give them more determination to go faster, train harder, and improve themselves. They are choosing this as a career path. No one is forcing them to be professional MX racers. If they don't like it then they don't have to. Get a different job.

Unions had their place 100 years ago. Now they only contribute to the decline of the American dream.

He is a racer, and so are all the other guys that made a stand to make the conditions better for ALL the racers. There appears to be a lot more to this than dust, or even Mexico. This may have just been the tipping point from many previous safety concerns. Many of the riders here have complained about safety issues and their complaints have gone unheard. Probebly because they cant stick together and make a stand.

I think you misunderstood the "heros" portion. I was simply trying to emphasis the point that the guys with the high dollar contracts have the most to lose. A "day laborer" like Leib was here would have risked nothing and yet they would have gained the same gains as the riders that were putting their paychecks on the line.
They are all putting in the effort and without 20-40 guys on the gate there wouldn't be a "race". Its plainly clear these guys are risking there lives just as much as the top of the crop, they should get paid decent. I only mentioned the American contingent because like Deselle they have the most to risk bye asking for better conditions. Only they haven't made a stand.... What deselle and the others did took Balls and unity. Allthough their actions to the guys afterward could have been better.

As far as your awesome union comment.... Ill let it slide. My union gives me a great living and takes care of the best Medical insurance I have ever heard of. And thanks to the past 100 years of Union workers; our country has some of the safest work environments on the planet. All because a few guys stood up to the man for better treatment.
