There’s even some personal stuff between Dungey and Stewart, as back in the summer of ’08, when Stewart was embarking on his perfect season, Dungey was staying at his house and riding with him. Somewhere along the way (most point to a first-turn crash at the U.S. Open that Fall) that relationship went off the rails.

So what exactly happened to the relationship?

I wasn't a big motocross fan back then, any clarification would be good

Dungey moved into the same class and thus became the enemy.

Who knows, what Weege wrote about is all that I ever heard. Stewart was mad about the US open thing and then Dungey started riding at RC's place in Tallahasee.

All these guys are so mental that they never want to ride with anyone that are close competitors with.

Actually, at that race, I think Dungey was still on a 250F. If I remember right, he got a good start, and got pushed wide by James. I do remember James being really hot about it when he heard that Ryan was complaining about it afterwards, and he marched over to the Suzuki truck to talk to him.

It's all old stuff, and I'd guess that neither one of them are as concerned about it as anyone in here is.

Steve, I remember it differently. Seems like to get the trifecta, James had to holeshot that race. Dungey was a little aggressive (nothing bad) and took the holeshot. I could be wrong. It's happened once before.

Dungey just went from the "friendship" zone to the, "oh poop, this guy might someday beat me" threat zone. I'd be surprised if either of them have hard feelings for one another, but if Dungey had never progressed up to Stewart speed wise, I think the chances of them remaining riding buddies would be a little more favorable lol.

Looked to me like Stewart kept trying to pressure the young teenager into a mistake, and he just never made one. If that didn't tell Stewart that Dungey was here to stay, Anaheim 1 in 2010 did.

When they do Nike commercials and press events together, there doesn't seem to be any bad blood between them, they actually seem to get along quite well and joke around.

Correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm thinking of somebody else but.....

Wasn't Dungey going to ride / train at Stewart's house at some point early on and then switched to RC's house all of a sudden???

Do I have that right?

Yes. Dungey stayed and rode at Stewarts for a while then moved to Tallahassee.

Wow, James' track used to be super rough compared to the current version from all the videos. No wonder he went undefeated that year.
