I have 103 on my bike in preprints for a 4th place overall in the 250 class a few years ago. I ran it the next season them quit racing. If I replace them it will be either 187 or 909....
I'll take anyone out that runs 951....
As far back as I can recall, that number has followed me around and popped up in my life all the time.
One example would be when I made the move from NY to NH for a new job and my office number turned out to be... you guessed it... 104...

I was # 92 on an 80 in 1983 when my horomones suddenly kicked out more hp then my KX80's engine.
As a result I outgrew my bike that season, and after enough piston and rings were fried chugging my ever growing ass around, the poor KX80 was parked for a KX125.
Since I was an 80 Expert, they for whatever reasons deemed that running #92 in the 125"B" class was more than I could handle... I was now racing against some dudes with mustaches and kissing their kids before the race and I wasn't even 13 and I'm not sure how not letting me use #92 was sparing me any of my new moto-culture shock of all this!
So my #92 became #692 and I took a liking to it. It's been in use by me ever since then.
Early on, I would get assigned new district numbers, but would just keep the #692 and write it down on my entry form in the spot that said "other number".
I don't recall ever being hassled on it since I started using it, and have kept it as my own.
Much like the AMA's permanant number system, I have also found this useful. However, since I'm not "marketing" myself like the pros with a constent number from year to year, my benefit was that the number on my helmets and jerseys could easily (and economically) be rolled from one year to the next.
I started with #132 when I was racing BMX. The NBL would assign you a number, so that was my 20" number. Then when I started running Cruiser, that number ended up being 797. Not quite sure why they werent able to have the same number for both classes, but whatever.
When I started racing MX, I originally wanted to stick with my 20" BMX #, however the local MX organization had a number system that said novices # had to be 301 and up. I put in for 711 (I was a Tallon Vohland fan) and 911. 711 was taken so I ran my 1st MX season as #911. My second season I decided to go for a change, and went with 757. I ran that number from the time I was 16 until I got hurt when I was 21
After that I sold the bikes and bought a race car. I am going into my 4th season running #49, just because it looks cool, and absolutely no one else runs it.
parents said at the start of riding if we were gonna race they wanted us to run our birthdays as our numbers mine is june 12 so i have always ran 612.
And no, I run the number despite the fact that forgiveness isn't my strong suit...
And now #70...year I was born. And #'s I had left over
Only been riding since '01...when I turned 31.
