I might have agreed with you until that last paragraph where you turned into another blind fanboy. I don't think he deserves to be trashed by people all the time, but his poor performance is no one's fault but his own. That doesn't just go for James either, don't try and blame a rider's issues on the track on anyone or anything else, that is part of the problem. No true champion is ever going to blame his failures on anyone but himself, so don't go doing it for them.
you're just wrong. the yamaha does not "look n feel" like a racing machine should in its ergonomics. it's wide and looks heavy, not sleek. like with gear designs, there are subliminal messages the brain is picking up on all the time. if you aren't inspired, you aren't at your potential. the type of dirt inspires. the hour of the day inspires. colors inspire. design inspires. we can pretend otherwise in a fruitless (and oh so very tired) continual march to prove our machismo, or we can actually manup and realize that humans are emotional beings and the details make a huge difference.

you put James on a Honda or a Suzuki (and yes, get rid of the atrocious Answer gear) and you'll see a guy who's beating everyone again. believe it.

enough is enough is right.

any article on James Stewart predictably extends to list of belittling comments that amount to adolescent zeros with no instinct for the sport, spewing a intolerable amount of ridicule and effectively showing where the bar is set for our "sophisticated" mx community. not to be rude but i think they pretty much deserve nothing else but to be told.

calling on any real men out there with some "character" who can give this guy a break and serve as better ambassadors for the sport – what has he done to deserve the nonsense anyway, which I'm sure has had an effect on his mental game.

the rhetoric honestly sounds like angry, self centered, unmindful adolescents or adolescent grownups with anger issues – God knows the world right now needs a whole lot more of that! and what are people so mad at anyway, i always wonder that. how is that working in general?

i'm a fan of reed, villopoto, dungey, canard, and stewart about equally. but the bullying is just sad, unacceptable, and needs to be called out directly with no apology. if that upsets you, you're most likely part of the problem. we need to let love rule, anything else is self centered and dark. so there! =)

that said, i believe if James got on a Suzuki or Honda, and changed his gear to One, Fox, or something with a cleaner look (and yes, those things do matter) ... he would come back and start beating Villopoto. there, i said it … because it's the truth. for those protecting the JGR/Yamaha deal, just please stop. what he needs to any discerning eye is a big bright change that looks cool on the front of Racer X. all new. you can count on it!

Firstly, this is the only time I have heard anyone seriously say that gear livery has affected a rider's performance and all of his gear has been designed with at least some input from him so even if it were the problem it would still be his fault. Secondly, the bike that he rides has ergonomics that has been changed to better suit him (remember the aluminum tank and elongated seat?). Finally it isn't like he hasn't shown speed or won races outright on the Yamaha, his problem has been a lack of consistency and crashing. He is still fast he just doesn't have the focus on the track and you can attribute that to other factors, but I chalk it up to the fact that he started focusing on things other than racing and now that he is trying to refocus himself he has lost ground and is pushing himself too hard. Either way, the fact is in the end it is his mind and if he can't find the inspiration he has no one to blame but himself and his own choices.

I agree with the OP about the comments that come up whenever the topic of James Stewart comes up. I don't even read any more comments on Stewart's facebook page as a result because it just makes me lose even more hope in humanity.

If James himself is reading them and thus having his mental game affected then he really should stop reading them. Haters gonna hate, as they say.

This year in SX was kinda a wash anyway because both Stewart and Reed were never really there so Villopoto just ran away with it, it wasn't even much of a contest. Next year better be more exciting!
You were doing okay up until the third paragraph.

Prolly will get lamblasted, but here goes..............I agreed for the most part about your OP. A lot of douchie-ness gets said and it gets embarassing that people even here on Vital are ambassadors in their own way for this sport. No wonder why is going in the wrong direction.
So..........maybe not the look of the gear, but the people around the brand itself. RV2's Thor stuff this year is the ugliest shit I've ever seen, but look at his results. Maybe it's time to surround himself with different people. I get the impression there are a lot of nuthuggers at Oakley and Answer that he could deal without. CR22 did a complete overhaul and look at his results. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't, but I think he needs to try something different.
I just hope James races a different brand of motorcycle at least once before he quits, just so he could see what life off the Yami would be like.

I`m all for the riders gear looking great, but seriously?... It won`t make a DICK of difference to their results be it Answer, Shift or Go The Rat.

Anyone that thinks his gear is the problem is absolutely last place in the special olympics retarded.

But his possee? That absolutely could be the problem. RC always talked about the need to surround himself with good people....if (and I say "if" because I have no idea) james possee isn't "good people", then it could very well be a problem. Not saying it is (I have no idea), but just saying it isn't far fetched that a possee could affect a riders results (positively and negatively).

The only people that think James is being given a tough time, and being ridiculed, and belittled are the .01% of moto fans that look at this message board.

If I take the message boards out of the equation, I see nothing but love for James Stewart on TV, in the Magazines, on the non-message board web pages, on ESPN, everywhere....everyone loves him BUT the vocal minority that post on the message boards.

James, his team, his family, and anyone closely associate with him would do well to either ignore this message board all together or to remember that such an incredibly small amount of moto fans follow it, that it doesn't even matter.
Yea your right to an extent. I think these boards magnify the "hate" BUT all of this goes on in real life as well. Out of the 6 rounds I went to this year I noticed James was boo'ed at all of them, more than any other rider. I know the top 5 do get boo's here and there but the response to JS7 was comparably different. His father was spit on at one of these "professional" events. I see people cursing at his rig and flipping him off every time people walk by. I saw a little girl chase his mother in the pits with a sign that said "stewart sucks."

Don't get me wrong he has one of the biggest autograph signing lines in the pits and he will always be a rider that everyone admires and loves. He is an extremely talented rider and there are tons of fans who would do anything to get his autograph but that's not covering up the fact that these "haters" (usually uninformed joes that don't know shit about the sport) DO exist outside of the internet. I'm sure there are more fan's than haters but it always seems like the minority get's magnified because they seem to stand out more.

Are we supposed to care what you think of the MX community?

Are you so naive as to think JS7 cares what you or any other poster on this board thinks?

You guys give yourselves way too much credit.

The ego's in the pits are mere shadows of the monstrous ego's that hide behind the keyboards.

It would also appear that some of the home Skewled riders have a few fellas by 20 iq points or more!

This thread title's wrong!

Only too much is ever enough.

The proof here lies in, that there's just too much talk about James Stewart period! For whatever reason. Defending or criticizing him Wink

"find out what it is that you are angry/unhappy with in your life and put that energy into fixing the problem instead of being so negative and hateful"

if you pay attention to people it is not to hard to figure out what they are anry/unhappy with most of the time it's what's found in the mirror....
well thank you for that insightful insight dr. phil.
