I've seen Mccread take some abuse on here but that was definitely one of the most ruthless. Grinning

Are you related to Joe Pesci?

After watching Valkenswaard GP footage, Herlings looks stronger than ever. Motocross is at an all time high! The US and the European championships have some insanely talented riders...

Just be glad we don't care about soccer or we'd take that away from you too with our huge population advantage.

To solve the problem "who is the best rider" just follow the money and it should give you a clue. Now I hope RV makes more than JS/, otherwise my theory falls apart...

The best overall rider is the one winning AMA SX and AMA Nationals/ World championship the same year.

The best MX rider is the winner of AMA Nationals and Wolrd Championship = two riders

Since we rarely see those two go head to head in a full season of MX it's hard to break it down further.

I feel there is one outdoor championship to much out there. I would love to see nationals and world championship combined into a superleague of motocross. I understand that would mean just half the races stay in Europe. But on the other hand twice as many fast riders and maybe a tv-deal with live coverage all over the world. If this was the case my bet is Herlings would win on the sandy tracks though = )

WOW ! it's the same all the time isn't it :-)

Lommel will be a real test for every team and rider involved including Herlings, magical as he may be he isn't beyond getting beat by the worlds best - sure the GP riders that know the place and are crazy skilled sand riders will be up there and may have a slight advantage but i really do not believe in counting out people like RV,RD or any other National Champ from elsewhere - so long as they are fit they will be a challenge. They are all top drawer athletes and certainly in the top end of the worlds skill counter.

Herlings, RV, AC etc may or may not win, it's racing and shit happens. Hell, we have an SX season to finish and then the outdoors, these boys may not even be @ Lommel if things go bad, it's a long way away so why do we have to have this shitty discussion based on previous successes/failures so soon?

Great post. The fast guys will be fast at Lommel. Funny how that works, especially at a one-off race where shit seems to happen a lot. Would be great to see AC have a clean event there unlike too many past MXdN's recently.

You know who I'm counting out? Denmark. I know that's going out on a limb, and a lot can happen between now and then, but they are going to have a hard time getting any moto wins, let alone the overall.

Same goes for Kansas.

I love this race as much (maybe more) than anyone, and I always want to see our guys represent well, but I also want to see the world's best riders all battle. Some years the tracks favor one rider or another, but it always seems to work out well that the best, most complete team wins, and that's usual America. It's weighted that way now. We have a much deeper talent pool to choose from, and our guys race together twice as often (SX and MX) as the European guys get to. But we can and will lose from time to time, and I have no doubt that Jeffrey Herlings will be the man to beat in Lommel, and Tony Cairoli will also be very hard to beat. But to me Belgium is a bigger threat -- it takes five moto scores, not two -- and those two are on relatively small teams.....

Jesus, now I'm doing it. The race is nearly six months away. Maybe it's a bit early to prognosticate beyond the obvious: Herlings will win as a rider, Holland probably won't as a team.

that was a great move and the triple was a ballsy place to be, fair play to the few that hit it and made it work.

Searle knew the game this weekend, sensible world championship ride number 1 completed.

Herlings just made it look too easy - sick little fu**er, hahaaa !!

Personally, I think the different surfaces appeal is overblown. I would love to see the soil conditions and type at Valkenswaard last Monday at every track in the world. But, granted it's a matter of opinion.

My recollection is that other than native conditions at each track, the principal difference between here and there is the FIM regs on track length.

I understand why they do it but Im not a fan of ripping tracks full stop. As far as Im concerned the whole point of motocross is to race the natural terrain, not man made terrain.

Ok add a few jumps here and there, but in my Motocross Utopia all tracks would stay pretty much like this, no matter what kind of dirt it is. Where possible I would reverse the tracks back to their natural, grassy state afterwards.

The problem in the States is that given the summer racing season, if it's not raining and a mud fest, it's going to be baked and really, really dusty at just about everywhere but Southwick if they don't work the tracks the way they do. As someone who lived through those days, I'll take the present.

Maybe it would be different situation if the climate was different here.

Verry true, we could send a 3rd string team like we have in the past... and still win. You never know what is going to happen (unless you use the past to an indicator of the future Smile

I guess I don't understand why you're singling KS out on this issue.... There are a couple guys by the name of Hahn who came from around these parts and still are throwing down! There aren't many tracks around here these days because, let's just face it. 9 grand for a new bike after taxes is insanity... So tracks like NEK and Agency MO die off... Attrition... But eh, what are you gonna do? The whole point being is, Cairoii hasn't come over here and ridden either supercross or motocross other than the GP's. I'd LOVE to see him and RV going at it race in and race out. A TRUE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. But as I'm sure you know flying long distances throws you off, ergo national races will continue to be the same as they are. People are gonna do what is in their best interests and stay close to what feels like home. I think everyone has to concede that the best riders in the world ride in two different world championships. The only time we get to see the real racing is the MXDN and it doesn't happen often enough....

It's the same here. It sucks when they don't prep it. If a track is ridden every week the natural terrain thing is a no go unles you like blue groove.

Yes anything can happen and it often does,it often adds to the excitement, suddenly France looked good last year, then Pourcel's puncture, and without their top man,the USA have won with their B team and lost with their first choice

As DC said let's hope all the top riders are fit and racing this year,2 of the top 3 GP riders weren't at the MXdN last year and the SX has already claimed a lot of injuries this year, fingers crossed for the rest of the seasonSmile

Hey, I thought sending the 3rd string might help you guys out, at least give you Euros a fighting chance.

About 90% of your posts are intended to cause a reaction. There is no difference between trolling and "pissing on the euro's legs" as you so eloquently like to put it.

Yes the OP posted this thread deliberately to create a stir, but you're guilty of doing the same thing and you know it.

To be honest, it gets a little boring when someone like RC or even RV now, dominates the class, just like the Americans dominate at the MXON. Sending the second or the 3rd string makes the race more exciting.

Thing is most MXON races are run in Europe. That means Americans have not even ridden on them, same with Lommel. I am pretty sure that none of the Americans have ridden that track (except for Zach), that is a huge advantage for the Euros. That and as quoted "Americans suck at Motocross" they are not good sand riders and the Euros are, and the Americans have to deal with time change, being an a foreign country, they don't have the big semi of parts and resources, their bikes are shipped in parts, it is amazing the Americans win at all.

You are Kettle, I am Pot. Pot meet Kettle The difference, is I don't start it. I don't come out here saying how the Euros suck and try to start some flaming post. That is what a Troll does. I may fan the flames after once of the Euros like St Ann come here and try to start some fight. The only thing that is going to be smoked in this race is the Euros... Like always Smile

But even if the Euros were to win, hollow victory because they were stated to win, they had every home team advantage, they are supposed to be superior sand riders, Herling is suppose to be the worlds best sand rider, so hollow victory. But if the Americans win, it will business as usual, that is what America does. Team America F*** Yeah, coming to save the mother F'n day yeah. LOL I love Canadians.
