dude I bristle every time I see that on this site.

My nephew has downs syndrome, and experiencing him growing up, even as an uncle, has made me more aware that those terms (Vitard, tards, retards) are offensive.

If it was just you, him, and my brother, alone in a room, talking, would you say that most of the people posting on Vital are "retards"?

If you would, personally I think that's really sucky. If you wouldn't, then why is it cool to say behind someone's back?

I'm not PC guy, seriously... I'm not trying to call anyone out (it's not just the OP that says that stuff on this site, and I'm not going to name names, you know who you are); but maybe we could use something else. There are a lot of word options available, maybe use some creativity and come up with some new options.
You're right. And I used it in another thread earlier...won't do that again.

I own one. I know I can't. Wish I could. I AM almost 50 though. It wasn't any different 25 years ago. Trust me on that one.

what people fail to realize is that during the heyday of the 90s (cant believe im even saying this Sad ) is that jobs were plentiful and inflation wasnt going through the roof.

if good paying jobs came back to America dropping 8K on a bike wouldnt be a big deal..just like dropping 5K on a new kx250 in 1999 wasnt a big deal
I know plenty of guys that ride that make good money and they still can't afford new bikes. When you dropped 5k on that kx you could sell it for 4k the next year. You can still get 4k for a bike, problem is you're paying 8k new. I used to make way less than I do now and bought a couple bikes a year but I haven't bought a new bike since 06 (paid 5500 for a 450 after rebates). When you lose $1000 on a bike it stings a lot less than $4000.

I guess that's where you and I differ. I would use that term because I don't see your nephew as retarded. He has Downs Syndrome. If I use that term it's because it applies to someone who has their head up their ass. I'm not PC either, to a certain point. But life isn't an ass kissing fest either. Living PROOF? VitalMX. It's sad that some people have to live with those type of afflictions.
The other day a guy told me a racist joke. Ended with that classic "N" word. You might be shocked. As was I. Especially when I tell you he was he is "African Canadian". The man obviously has a sense of humor. You might almost think HE'S not very PC either.

We would prefer "Stroke Challenged", if you don't mind

I understand your point of view; you don't see him as retarded, nor do I.

He is just a little sensitive to that term, is all. It's not about how you or I feel about it.

I guess it doesn't matter, it's not the end of the world, use it if you like; alternatives aren't bad though.

I think you can joke about yourself all you like; it's when you joke about others...

You make a valid point sir. I DO exercise caution most times. However when I shoot from the hip, God knows what's coming out. Most likely your nephew would find that offensive, his life is determined by that affliction. He likely wouldn't realise I wasn't slagging him, he just knows its a shitty word. I can see why.

Lol Oh I know! Blows my mind how fast it is and it's 19 years old. Just love riding that thing. I think I like the handling more than the motor. I'd like more grunt.
Generous? No doubt. I would say Stanton and McGrath rode it to the limit. Everyone else. Not so much.

I mean a guy can have fun on most any modern bike 2strk or 4 strk who cares, get them back to $3500. -$4500 and lets go play.
Here ya go, the family truckster. The is an awsome 4 stroke bike that may not be evolved but has been refined over the years. Best of all it fits your budget at only $3800. Time to go out and play.

I am sorry, you say you wanted the top of the line fastest bike on the planet with backward slanted, reversed engine, bi lateral aluminum frame, centralized fuel injected engine Maserati? Your gonna have to pay to play for that at a price of $8300. You could choose the 7 year old 2 stroke by Yamaha or KTM for 7150 or 6800 respectively but realize, no technology like direct inject or any other major improvements have been added, almost like time standing still.

Or you can take a shit on both of them for a price thats right in between.

Has it evolved yet and have reverse engine, centralized fuel injection. or at least direct inject? For that much money, the 4 stroke is fuel injected, the TM should be direct injected if they are putting any R&D into it.

I hope the new Yamaha YFZ450 is an example from the quad side of the business that makes it to the mx side. Yamaha is still offering it's full on race quad the YZF450R at $8599 but the began offering a toned down version without the lastest suspension, etc at $6799.
In my opinion it's a teriffic idea that ios long overdue in mx side of things. I hope they have success with their experiement and it spill over to not just offroad bikes but street bikes as well. More riders=more voices=more access.

At least it's good looking.

The only bike I've seen lately that's close to being as ugly as this reverse engined backward engineered looking monstrosity.......

....is this.

NeKawBoy is correct, Yamaha hit it out of the park with that toned down YFZ. The carbureted version runs better and costs less to get more HP than the EFI version.

Now what Carlos?

and by the way, who decided that "reverse engine" was the way to go? was it you? did you determine that was the way to go?

They all look the same except for minor differences like color, and the exhaust pipe sticking out the front. Although that TM has an ugly looking pipe that stick out waiting to get crushed by a rock/tree/bike.

4/5/2012 12:38pm
alright man, if they "all look the same" to you, and that "pipe" that was the basis of off road motorcycling for over 30 years looks wrong to you, then I can't help you.

I am still of the opinion that a KTM non linkage chassis (think 2011 KTM150) with a 200cc mid level performing air cooled non powervalved engine and not necessarily top of the line components, brakes or suspension that retailed for $3999.00 would be a big hit and could be just the ticket to bring some people into or back to the sport. The aftermarket companies could provide the hop up parts like they did for the pit bikes.

All I am saying is some manufacturers move ahead in technology but KTM who holds the 2 stroke banner in the last 2 years finally surpassed a 7 year old yz450. I am just not feeling the R&D money here.

Wasn't it you who said that greenies are not an issue because 2 strokes burn cleaner?

"Let's not walk the "green people" path.
The notion of 2 strokes being dirty, and 4 strokes being cleaner is 100% erroneous AS PROVEN by the switch back to 2 strokes in both outboards and snowmobiles."

This is only true when 2 strokes are direct inject in the outboard motor areana. They have had direct inject for 15 years

KTM has done what in the last 15 years to make EPA and greenies happy? And you wonder why they won't let two strokes on trails in Californa, which forces people to purchase 4 strokes.

Yamaha no matter how gimmick is trying to move forward. Remember the boost bottle? Even though it failed they tried to improve on the two stroke line. KTM has had 15 years to produce a clean 2 stroke. Where is it?

As far as being a sheep, I own 2 2 strokes, KX500/PW80 and I have 2 4 strokes RMZ/Yz450. I buy what I want and what fits my needs. You seem to be stuck in some 2 stroke loop and think two strokes are the best and only way to go.

I own it all, have a diverse perspective and can make valid comparisons without emotion. I have a playstation and an xbox, you are not going to make me jealous or persuade me that one is superior in everyway when I own both and know different.

You seem like you are the sheeple that follows only the 2 stroke crowd and cannot see there has been little advancement of 2 stroke, and that they popularity has decreased because of the advantages of 4 stroke and its none smoky and smelly exaust.

I didn't say that, the bultaco looks very different. I am not blind but there are some clear differences on the bultaco, but on the Japanese (except for some minor changes on the Yamaha no exhaust in front), they all look more similar than different. The KX and RMZ almost look identical for being to different designs from two different company's.

Could it compete with a race bike like a TZ250 in lightness, power, handling? Do you understand the difference between a race motocross bike that uses lighter more expensive parts for racing over a dumbed down commuter bike that weighs 359lbs.
This bike produces 23.7 hp (17.7 kW) @ 9,900 rpm
Do you know how much you would have to spend to lower the weight and increase performance to match that of a YZ450?
Here is what you get for 3999. Really, I don't know why I bother to even explain this. If you don't understand this simple concept, you will never be able to make sense of this issue or have enough intelligence to get a good enough job to even afford a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke with direct inject.

Doesn't matter, that archaic engine still puts out more HP/Torque than an equal displacement 4 stroke. R&D needs to go into suspension. 4 stroke engines simply added costs in areas that didn't need improving to start with. In other words, it's all about the suspension.

Im new to this forum.. but its rapidly becoming obvious that our dear friend Carlos spends more time complaining about everything than he actually does riding a bike...

fact is.. the manufacturers are a business and they are making HEAPs of money selling bikes to the US.
Its genius actually; lets develop a dirt bike that wont last more than a year or two and force feed it to them a "new and Better" and without getting into what is actually better because each bike has its advantages.

Bringing up the streetbike market is PERFECT. How is it that those bikes are relatively the same price but they cost 2X as much t build? there are 2Xs as many parts and they are painted multiple colors? They even have to pay gov homoThe problem is that Street bike guys don't typically go out and buy a new bike every year so the competition for sales is still there. Many guys buy bikes that last them 5 years!!

But us dirtbikers are a different bunch....
15 years ago. A Racer would buy the latest and greatest "lets say YZ 250" and keep that bike for a couple years until the next generation bikes would come out. meanwhile they would spend all sorts of money in aftermarket parts (OEMs get no additional money). Here is where it get funny.... couple years pass He then would buy the newest YZ 250 and most likely still keep his old bike as a backup or practice bike. often times many of those aftermarket parts would transfer to the new bike. (OEMs still get no extra money).

So they make a new product... this one will likely self destruct within 100hrs of use. when it does Then the same racer has to go to OEM to buy parts because they want the most reliable stuff they can get (OEMs get money) the aftermarket guys convince some racers that they NEED more power (they get money). after rebuild, bikes become even more volatile.... It blows up again... (everyone gets more money) within a year the same racer gets tired of paying for parts and starts the whole thing over again by going to buy a new bike. (OEMs get more money) old bike is parted out on Ebay therefore raising the cost for used bikes. If used bike price increases... so does new bike price. (OEMs get more money)

I heard that a nameless WMA pro level girl went through 6 250fs last year not counting rebuilds.... another pro level friend has 6 bikes in his garage and rarely do more than 2 of them run at the same time. (OEMs get LOTS of money)

you could even get real picky and note that in the 70s when bike sales were at their highest.. the bikes broke down a lot more than they do even with the modern 4 stroke.

Its all about money.... and right now they OEMs are making plenty.

This is a repost however,
It would seem that it is becoming generally recognized what is going on here,
Motorcyclists are an independent and thoughtful bunch for the most part.

i really want to buy a new bike,
Hopefully by 2014 we will have won this stand off.

--------------------

I have a theory:

"The Industry" is actually doing pretty well out of all this, Television rights have been secured,

Big Four Advertising money can be allocated and validated with a cross promotional allowance for Honda generators and Cars as brand awareness,
The actual new bike sales are of no consequence to the Makers, and certainly not to the people raking in the dough hand over fist.
That same television time is also given out as a prerequisite for towing the company line,
Trucks and Banners are placed in TV friendly places on tracks,
which in turn creates various revenue clicks and numbers which keeps every one as sweet as a Border Patrol agent on a drug cartels christmas list

And thats fine,
But please don't expect any respect or tip of a helmet from those who love it for what it is,
They should not be threatened or smirked at,
They just want to ride the best bike for them which is available,
rather than what they can screw out of this latest business model which has become National Mx.

i've noticed something different going to pro ama mx's . Back in the day riders would have more than 1 bike to ride , seems like nowadays they have only 1 . why is that ? I'm sure you guys saw Dungey almost lose his ass at southwick last year because of bike failure . why dont they have an extra bike or 2?

You draw conclusions about me. I will draw them about you. New people usually don't start off post so knowledgeable, because they are new.

You joined in 3 days ago and the first thing you talk about is 2 strokes. To me you seem like one of the other 2 stroke bullies that cannot debate the facts. So they log in under another name so they can continue because they were so bloodied in the previous battle they do not want to let anyone know who they are.

"Bringing up the streetbike market is PERFECT. How is it that those bikes are relatively the same price but they cost 2X as much t build?"

If you really believe this then you are as informed as newmann because anyone with a brain knows it cost more to build a corvette than a commuter car like a Malibu and more to build a race mx bike than a street commuter bike that weighs a lot makes only 23hp and has no race performance.

I am a capitalist. I hope the OEMS make money, a lot of it, so they continue making cool bikes, if they don't they will only invest their money elsewhere where they can make money and they won't produce cool bikes.

And I would bet 100 bucks I get more seat time than you do. Maybe not on the track but I travel to Moab twice a year, go to the mountains and ride all day. And I still make it to the track at least 2-3 times a month.
