In the market for a new ride and can't seem to come to a decision on what to buy. I just sold my CRF450 and can get a new one for $6800 or $6900 for the KTM. I rode a friends 2012 CRF last year but wasn't that impressed with the motor at all. All I have heard about the KTM 250 is good things and I like the idea of going back to a 2-stroke but am a little worried about getting used to that type of riding again. It's been awhile since I rode a 2-stroke and I know my 4 stroke has made me lazy. . If it makes any difference I am a Vet expert rider. Don't race very much anymore but try to get out and ride as much as possible. Hard not to with all the tracks around me. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Spend a little time looking around this place NOOB! This belongs on the main moto section so it can turn into 10+ pages of idiots arguing about 4-stroke vs. 2-stroke...

If you're a Vet A rider who grew up racing 2-strokes like the rest of us it will take all of 1 moto to remember what you're doing on one. I wouldn't let something like that factor into it. Leave it down to which bike you like better. While the motor is soft on the Honda the handling for me is sharp. I've always liked the geometry of the latest frame and felt like I could ride it aggressive enough to make up for the missing hp.

I finally rode a '12 KTM 250SX in anger a few weeks ago. It was setup for someone else obviously and that factors into my opinion some, but I didn't like it. The ergos and overall balance of the bike from front to back were both very strange to me. I could get use to it I'm sure, but even though it makes a claimed 49hp it still didn't have the snap or hit of the 4-stroke when it came to doing technical sections. There were simply things on my local track I couldn't do on it that the 450 could pull off. The big ups for the 2-stroke are obviously great brakes (almost too good, for the first time in my personal history I had to pay attention to how much pressure I applied to the rear brake), being lighter (although not significantly lighter than the Honda 450, I wouldn't say I could tell a great deal of difference), and of course the ease and light expensive of maintaining it.

I would think that kit, with a lot more bottom end thrust, would suit you. I ride a CR500 and that's what I like is LOTS of bottom end. I was thinking of doing a kitted 250 or just buy the 300. Until I sat on one. Too weird. And I DON'T think I can adjust to it, there's a few other bikes in my stable. All Jap. I'm going to buy that used Husky with 10 hours on it at my local dealer. THAT felt totally natural sitting on it.

Go with the KTM 250sx. You will like it KTM's have came along way from the 90's. Plus it's always easier to sell a two stroke. That is if you ever decide to sell it. Tough to trust anybody trying to sell a four stroke. I know I would never beleive what a four stroke seller is telling me.
