We got the whole bike back together last night and ran it on the stand in the driveway motor runs awesome. We did a total rebuild on the motor, cases split rebuilt bottom and top end. I did remove the transmission and checked all the gears. Today the boy takes it down the driveway runs good thru two passes. On pass 3 he lugs it going into second gear and the rear tire just locks up and stalls the bike. The transmission would not shift up or down. I rocked the bike back and forth and it shifted down into neutral. Started it up, I went down the driveway upper rpm range and it shifted thru the gears fine. I tried it again but this time just lugging the motor, as soon as I shifted to second I could feel the bike start to hesitate like something wasn't releasing or something was grabbing. The rear tire locked up as before,as did the shift. Rocking it back and forth freed it up.One last try, high rpm range shift thru first second third, I backed off the gas in third and as the rpm dropped I could feel that lurching feeling again, put it into neutral and placed into garage. The bike seems to shift and run fine at higher rpm but feels lurchy and locks up at lower rpm. You guys have been awesome at solving my problems, Thanks
I am kind of a nut when it comes to something like this, when I run into problems like this its easier for me to just pull the motor apart rather than experimenting. I am sure other would disagree but its the direction I take, sometimes it works other times it doesn't.
When you drain did you see any metal flakes?
One other idea is to put the bike on the stand with the spark plug out, have the boy spin the tire and you shift through the gears maybe you can better feel what the heck is going on.
Few Long shot ideas:
Is the rear brake locking up on you? Maybe to much fluid in the rear resivoir? Is the chain way to tight? I am thinking not since you are able to rock the bike back and forth.
thats all the nutty ideas I can think of, let us know how you make out.
