I saw people in cars with smoked out windows on the phone yesterday. I was out near GH and Comp Edge. Still had some woman getting on the freeway at McKinley on the 91 looking down at something on her seat next to her, going 30 mph. She almost caused a few cars to come together as she just swerved on into traffic.

Another useless law!

"The evidence is mounting that the communication itself is the risk," said Russ Rader at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in Alexandria, Virginia.

"When we did a major study in 2005, looking at the crash risk for drivers using cell phones, there was no difference between those using hand-held phones and those using hands-free devices," Rader said.

University of Utah Professor David Strayer uses simulators to monitor driving ability and brain function. His tests show people who think they can multi-task behind the wheel are fooling themselves.

"Your mind is just not on the road. And the impairments aren't because your hands aren't on the wheel, but more that your mind in not on driving
," he said.

I hate driving behind people on cell phones as much as the next guy but this is stupid.

Next thing to go will be car radios, passenger seats, a partician between the driver and the back seats, billboards, etc, etc........I am so glad that the government is stepping forward to protect us from ourselves.

Phones in the car need to go entirely, whether they are hands free or not.

I think REAL driving tests would be more useful. Once around the block making sure you use your blinkers does not constitute knowing how to drive.

Driving, and steering a car are 2 completely different things. If you can drive, you can probably handle using a phone while doing it. If you merely steer your car past most obstacles, you shouldn't have any electronic distractions in the car with you.

You know texting is still legal? Takes more time away from your eyes being on the road to text than to talk. Some reasone texting is still ok. Whistling

Exactly, it's not holding the phone that is dangerous it's not paying attention to what the funk you are doing.
