Flashback to 1972, Tampa 806 south Dakota street. My best friend peanut from across the street and I were jumping a cinderblock board ramp on my Mini stingray, the older kids show up and set the block on end, they talk peanut into hitting it, peanut hits it WFO the board bends and he does a front flip onto his back, stayed on the bike until the landing. Awsome.
Crash, we used the ole cinderblock & board ramp many-a time back in '72 also.
Those Stingrays could take a pretty good beating. Well, unless you had a highback sissy bar, those things bend easy when your ride is cartwheeled on concrete.

Sissy bars were cool back then.
I actually hit my Pop's 18 foot thunderbird (boat), (it was parked on the road by the side walk) that same year! I was way ahead of RC!
I was the neighborhood daredevil at about 10 years old in my small Ohio town.Only kid that raced and had a mini bike.I'd jump my bicycle over everything. We set up a cinderblock ramp and I was jumping logs on a paved and cindered street.I'd jump farther and the kids would add a log. After quite a few, the local bully moved the ramp to the edge of the cinder block as I was riding farther away for more speed. When I hit the board it dropped and i hit the block sending me over the bars and the logs and onto my back in the cinders. When my air came back in my lungs I beat the piss out of that kid.I never cried a whimper but I was so embarassed as well as pissed that I wouldn't show the pain till I got in my house.Hydrogen peroxide and neosporin.Guess I was training for my future career.
LOL, @ friday, it sucks having to act like something didn't hurt.......I know yall went thru the cut a set of forks and build a chopper phase, we had a thrift store on Ft Rucker and you could get bikes for cheap, I built an adult size chopper and made the mistake of hitting the ramp, the extended forks came off and the other ones stuck in the ground, it was ugly. My pride and joy was the Evel K wood ramp i built, complete with stars painted right down the middle, it was about 5 foot high, never really thought about landing ramps, anyway i flatlanded off the thing a few times and retired it.
Here's my home built Webco framed BMX bike, my brother laid under the ramp and took the pic.
You didnt have a Mongoose? Those were the thing to have.
I think i have an old notebook with Redline catalogs and stuff, we didn't have internet so we would order the catalogs and file them in a notebook, then sit around and dream of stuff. Remember when Monoshock bikes came out? I wanted one so bad, kids today don't understand what it's like to dream, they get stuff so easy now. Damn imagine having a KTM mini at 9 or 10 years old, much less 3.
I was the wheeley king from our little town in my younger days.
Doug was my man...
One day I drove to school and wheeleyed alond the traffic road.
After a few yards (meters) I came down ON the road and got under a car with my self made suzuki....(I used to be Roger Decoster in those days).
The car smashed and crashed my suz and missed me for a few cm.
My dad was like Hell (now I think he was proud) cause he was a dare devil himself in his days.
I, for myself still was the King...
