Yes and no. As mentioned earlier, the mx2 class is a pro/am class which means that intermediates can sign up to race the mx2 nationals. The new 2stroke rule says that for the mx2 class, intermediates can run up to 250cc bikes and pros up to 153cc.

And to the op, I wish you good luck and I'll be cheering for you in ste-julie. I strongly suggest you get rid of the OEM tires, chain and footpegs (oem 4stroke pegs are actually pretty nice)

By pro regs,the max 2t is a 144 in the MX2 class
If you earn a national #,you are automatically bumped to pro which means,if you did this and got a number,you could only do it for one year.
If the CMRC decides you should be a pro,they can bump you up.
I hope it works out but it wouldn't surprise me to see Stallybras wag his finger and say"Oh no you don't"

Hey guys,

Race season is around the corner up here in Canada and I just picked up my new bike a few weeks ago. I am an intermediate rider taking the advantage of the new rule CMRC came out with. The rule states that riders can race 250 two strokes in the MX2 classes. In Canada we as intermediates can race pro nationals in the MX2 because it is considered a "pro/am" class. I plan on racing the 5 eastern rounds in the MX2 pro class. 250 vs. 250.


Now for the set up.....


Picked up a brand new 2012 YZ 250 from Machine Racing


Sure does have an ugly stock exhaust system!!


I dropped it off at my engine builder D4 Performance and told him to build me a "250-f killer"
He sure built me one....





We tested different motor settings on the dyno and came up with an awesome setting. I made sure that i was able to run pump gas to save some coin until we do some more mods for the race season. The bike is currently spec'd for pump gas and pushes 54 HP.
The best setting we had was with 110 and we got great results.....
Stock Motor vs. D4 Modified Motor + Race Fuel

57.5 HP!

Surprisingly the best exhaust set up was the FMF factory fatty with the stock silencer. The stock silencer gave it more ponies and it revved out marginally further. The FMF titanium 2 is a short pipe and DOES have a much larger hit in the torque region.

Now as far as mods to the engine and carb go.... i have no idea what he did. I know how to twist the throttle and change the filter. But here is the list of bolt on parts we got for it:
- FMF factory fatty pipe
- FMF titanium 2 silencer
- Light speed disc cover
- Light speed glide plate
- Works connection radiator braces
- Works connection pro perch
- Sunline brake lever
- IMS wide pegs
- Excel Rims
- V4ORCE reeds
- Boyeson ignition and clutch cover
- Hinson clutch
- Some sort of over sized disc


Thought some of you two stroke fans would like a story like this! Hope you enjoyed! Hopefully i get some TV coverage with some massive holeshots!! ! .

it was a treat to work with him and his dad again. we had a clear idea of what we needed to accomplish and they gave us time to do the job right. i really didnt expect to gain as much as we did. this is a pump gas motor! i milled .2 off the head and thats it! the rest is in porting/pipe/ vforce/ and oh yeah... the 40mm taper carb we did... hehe. i know 57 seem high, but we ran before and after. 450 hondas make 48 stk on my dyno and 55-58 mod.

The bearing breaks and causes shifting problems as well as broken metal debris that can cause a lot of damage before you know it. My friends kid races yz250s, happened to both his bikes on a regular basis. Just google yz broken shift stop levers and you find threads and pics. Changed out and no more problems. Yamaha changed the 125 as it was a problem with that motor as well but never did with the 250.
