I know he,s not in agreeance with the neck braces,
But man, he escaped without serious neck damage tonight! A chest protector with shoulder cup wouldhelp too!

He uses a under pro. Don't see how the brace would have helped

Actually I think a neck brace would have made it worse. If you watch closely he tucks his head right before he hits the ground so that he sort of does a front flip, if he had a neck brace on I don't think he could have done that.

I think the will wake up sore all over but the big trouble was the boot getting caught in the sub-frame/footpeg.

He some how managed to tuck his head early, whether it was from the force or reaction he got a bit lucky with the fall.

Fingers crossed it's not a series-ending injury. I hope he's back next weekend and I also hope the crash isn't a mental hit like Millville was. In both instances he was up front and running as fast, if not faster, than RV.

I'm gutted by that crash too BTW. If that hasn't detached at least one ligament, he's made of rubber. Unfortunately it's going to take a similar amount of misfortune on Villopoto's and Dungey's account to get back in the race. That is if he can ride again next week.

Strange crash really. It looked to me like the rotation was quite slow.
If you pause halfway through the flight he still looks good, it's only in the last 1/4 that his front end falls away.

And something is happening to his right boot after he stands up, like it gets caught and he tugs it free. i've seen plenty of riders who tilt their feet back in the air, but it's more of a jerking action.
2/19/2012 3:14am
Y'know taking another look I think he got caught on something in the air, well before the crash.

The angle at 49 seconds is much better - if you look through across the bike to his left leg, you can visibly see him yank his leg back and forth in the air as if trying to free it. Obviously I could be completely wrong but it really looks to me like part of his left boot collapsed and somehow, idk, got caught in the foot peg maybe. Definitely weird that one.

Further examination definitely shows the boot collapsed. I think it was giving out before the crash.

Yep! still going, but this is normal for me, i have had insomnia for about 30 years, usually get to sleep about 4am, but i only need 4-5 hours of sleep and i am good to go. 3am and i just cracked a beer, going to finish up a couple PR's then hit the sack and rewatch the race. Cool

If his boot has somehow gotten snagged on the bike ( it looks like it has). What does it say about the new Fox boots? Freak occurence? Or design fault?

I'm guessing he was completely winded and leaning forward hands on his knees trying to take a breath of air. (I've been in that position a few times after pathetically small crashes in comparison) Really hoping the knee isn't too bad.

I know what you mean, but its never good when you can't put ANY weight on your leg. He couldn't even limp off. Hoping for the best, but didn't look good. Basically had his leg crowbarred by a CRF450.

He actually got really unlucky, because apart from his boot getting caught, it looked like he'd have walked away from the actual impact .

at 40 econd mark from side view it looks like his ankle strap was hanging down in the left footpeg. then at 46 secon mark from a head on camera shot, you can see him get dragged and pulled over the last jump by his left leg hung up on his bike. then at 52 second mark (as mentioned before) you can see him try to pull back and adjust his nose dive.
im tinking his ankle part of his boot strap either broke, or he didnt buckle it tight enough and it came loose (we have all done that before with our boot straps)

I agree, looks like a problem with his boot or boot strap more so than a kicker on the jump. It must have been stuck pretty good to yank him around like a rag doll.

... and actually, you're right, the bike does look good in the air half way through the jump. It could have been the yanking of the bike with his leg that dropped the front end.

Either way, it'll be interesting to hear Chad's comments. He's typically a straight shooter and tells it like it is... so this should be interesting.

if the boot strap broke and wedged in the footpeg/frame area, i am thinking Fox (as well as other companies) may have a clause to keep mouths shut. i am hoping it was a strap that came loose from not being on tight enough, and not a breaking issue. think about it, some people prefer a really tight strap in ankle area and others prefer them relatively loose or barely snug.

Freak accident. New Fox boot ankle hinge got hooked on the peg. Never happen again. The more I watch it the better I feel Reeds chances are that he did not tear the ACL.

When he stands up on the pegs after the seat bounce I was talking bout Ash. The rear bottoms hard too on that seat bounce like it hits a kicker or a depression on the ramp.

Thats twice in less than 12 months that Chad has made it on primetime news here in Australia. Reeds really doing his best to get the sport on the map here in Australia, so much so that he's put himself through 2 of the biggest crashes in memory to raise awareness of this sport. Cool

In all seriousness i hope he can get out there again this year. That is the best i've ever seen him ride and he doesnt deserve to go out like that. Fingers crossed for good news.
