For everyone downplaying the talent in the GP's, any of you remember Ryan Hughes and Mike Brown? When their rides here in the states went to shit they both make the trek across the pond with semi lackluster results. For whatever reasons, they just couldn't get it done over there. Some will say it was shitty teams and bikes but then again the same ones will say there is no talent over there either. Upon their return here to the states, I was pretty amazed at the speed they were showing. Brownie's corner speed in SX was crazy fast and super aggresive. Both also ended up in some championship battles to the end. Brown snagged one, Hughes barely missed out and possibly could have nailed one had Troy not been cancelled. Yes I said possibly. Also, Hughes was still on a 125 outdoors while the 250F's were starting to dominate.
I think most of us are simply replying to a dumb comment with other dumb comments.

Don't understand the debate. I guess it's just good old fashioned Nationalism.
You'd have to be insane to call the GPs some type of easy alternative. Watch the races. The tracks are more like a GNCC than motocross- for 45 minutes. You've got to be an extremely tough bastard to win over there.

Eh, I don't think so, the little bike class is supposed to be a "feeder" class, the age rule helps accomplish that

There is nothing "feeder" about that class anymore.

I rode with two GP racers from Latvia last weekend, Ivo Steinbergs and Davis Ivanovs. Those guys haul ass.

With all due respect, their rides went to shit for a reason. Not to take anything away from the GPs, but it's probably not fair to use the comparison with riders at that point in their career. I'd say the same is true for Zach: he probably wasn't training the way he needed to at that point, but he's put in the work and now it's showing. He's ready to come back home and now he'll have a great ride. And I can't wait. I am a huge fan of the real 338.

until his contract is up and he gets to return to his home country where he makes probably more money and races the best racers in the world every weekend.
PROBABLY makes more money. Glad you said that, and not WILL make more money. Times have changed, it isn't like it was 5 years ago.

I agree with most of what you said, but Brown rode awesome in the 2000 World 125cc Championship and was as good as Grant Langston and James Dobb on many occasions. Then went home and won an AMA 125cc title. I wouldn't say he had lacklust results in Europe. Hughes was also strong in I think 1999. I agree though, the GP riders are fast.

Whenever I think of Mike Brown I think of him riding a 125cc CAT Honda and always up near the front.

He's going to do what his primary focus is, and what he's contracted to do. This was a cool field trip for him. Going to Europe (and a lot of hard work on his part) revived his career for sure. And next year? He'll be back racing in the U.S. full-time.
Did you sign him in your team?

No, that would require actually having a team. I'll save that for the people who have those kinds of resources. Smile

That kid deserves a ride on Pro Circuit or KTM. I hope he gets a ride worthy of his work ethic and determination. Not too many young American's would race in Europe with the easy going nature Osborne has.

I used to go mainly to watch Brown screaming that Honda,it was absolute abuse! CAT Honda were a great team, shame Brown didn't get a World title, still 3rd place ain't bad at all along with a British Championship victory

Surely not. Have you not read this entire thread? Some guys on here have just told us that that the GPs are a second rate series that you can just take it slow and not get injured. I expect Zach to come back with a world title since it's so easy!

Has not happened yet. He has been there how many years, 1 or 2?? I think it took Brad Lackey 8+ years to win a World Championship. The World Champs are in the series, ( Musquin & Rattray), they are not winning supercross titles, yet! There is one Anomoly however. JMB(Jean Micheal Bayle). Maybe the best motorcyclist ever, (that is a another debate).

Danny Laporte won the 1982 250 world championship his first year in the GPs

I wouldn't now. They're both cool kids and definitely fast. Davis impressed me with his speed. He's young so he seems to have a lot of potential.

Then you see on there papers: KNMV License - Russian... No other thing. We quite that stuff in 1992 I think because Jacky Martens was riding a Luxembourg license and he couldn't go to the MXDN with Belgium because of that license. So they said: License and nationality are two different things from now on!
I give up, we all thought Zack Osbourne was British.
