Muscle Milk and Chad Reed?

Edited Date/Time 8/20/2012 11:33am
I noticed on the podium he was drinking one. I wonder if Chad picked up another sponsor?

Muscle Milk is the only legit beverage sponsor in the sport. It is healthy for the hard training athlete. He probably has a free hook up from team honda and was drinking it for it's intended purpose. Unlike the fake ass bullshit monster and redbull assthlete's.

I've always thought Vitamin Water would be a good sponsor.. I've noticed KW drinking it on the podium.

I know a guy who talked the guy who sold Muscle Milk to various retailers, and he said he is positive that he had read on twitter that someone had heard that they had overheard a conversation at their bank that Chad Reed was getting paid $2.3 million to sip that bottle on the podium. So, there you go....facts are hard to argue with.

I think every possible energy drink has hooked up Chad. Last year at the nationals his team were drinking Rockstar and had a mass of crates of them on the rig. People were speculating a Monster deal over the off season, the list goes on. In my mind, I think a lot of riders drink Cytomax, regardless of their actual drink sponsor. Muscle Milk supporting Honda, Honda supporting Chad, add to the reasons why he was drinking it.

Would be cool to see Muscle Milk in those 'blank spots' (the actual oversize shift 's' logo) on his jersey, but time will tell..

And if I remember correct, vitamin water is high in sodium and is not a good preparation or recovery drink. Pedialyte works great, ill bring that in the cooler on hot race days

Pedialyte is an acquired taste but definltey does the job. I run it in my off brand camel back in long races.

a 50/50 mix of pedialyte and water, and a vitamin B12 tablet will cure a hangover STAT.

Actually Muscle Milk powder has been found to contain high levels of heavy metals in one serving. (some suggest this may lead to autism) Muscle Milk denies these claims saying that the levels are within the allowable limits per serving. I have a friend who is a PhD analytical chemist specializing in mass spectrometry that has done his own research and has found that ONE SERVING of Muscle Milk contains the maximum allowable amount of heavy metals per day. The problem is when you begin to consume more then one serving per day which is quite possible if you are working out heavily. If you look back at old Muscle Milk labels they suggest multiple servings per day while current labels suggest that product CAN BE taken at various times of the day.

As far as you bashing Red Bull and Monster. Red Bull is basically sugar water (glucose & sucrose) with caffeine. Wouldn't worry about the other ingredients as there is such a small amount that it has little to no affect.

You need to be more worried about all that Gatorade you consume. Gatorade uses Sucralose which is an ARTIFICIAL sweetener and much cheaper to purchase then GLUCOSE & SUCROSE which are natural sugars. Also some recent research has Gatorade causing premature teeth rot. Possibly due to large amounts of consumption combined with prolong swishing in the mouth before swallowing.

So there you go.

I imagine a fair share drink pedialyte after a race.

Not busting your chops, but does your friend publish his research? I'm interested in supplements and physiology, even though I'm a complete layman.

In weight lifting circles, muscle milk is bottom of the barrel. no one drinks it. but not for the scientific metal content analysis reasons. mostly because it does not agree with human stomachs. and if it does not agree with your stomach, the protein does not metabolize. protein does not do any good if it ends up on the toilet, or in your pants in the middle of a set.

the high end proteins are not the stuff with the flashy labels you find at GNC either.

Simply put, if you want to find out what the best protein is, just go to a 24hour fitness at 2am and walk up to the 275lb guy deadlifting 705lbs. and try not to make any faggoty steroid jokes while you are at it.

Vitamin water is basically sugar water. They admit that people don't actually drink it for health reasons, or at least that they wouldn't expect people to drink it for health reasons.

Considering the amount of caffine, sugar, and other stimulants per serving in the energy drinks, along with the fact that they're heavily marketed to kids, people definitely have cause for concern regarding energy drinks. Even worse is the fact that energy drinks are marketed through athletes (especially action sports) and implied as a performance enhancer in sports--hence the term "energy" drink. While consuming in moderation (e.g. one 12oz can a day) may look reasonable on paper, I can almost guarantee that the majority of Red Bull, Monster, Rockstar, etc. consumers drink more than one a day (especially for the fact that caffeine is addictive and most energy drinks have double that of the average soda). Moreover, how many kids do you know who are mature enough to do anything in moderation? I could go into all the documented issues and how energy drinks negatively affect different parts of the body, but you seem to be a critical thinker and may have access to peer reviewed studies on this subject and their respective journals to find out for yourself. If I feel motivated or provoked, perhaps I'll pull some of them and post it on here later this week.
