Well just got back from dodger sx. Got a question for the experts. After Trey's crash Lurch I think is his name seemed to go into a frenzy trying to keep the crowd pumped up as they were rendering medical care to the riders. This seemed to include efforts at getting the crowd to make as much noise as possible, dispensing freebie t-shirts, etc. Personally I found these efforts offensive and in very poor taste. The accident was serious and the circumstances IMHO did not call for all of the lack of respect and compassion shown to the riders.

Was there and I agree. I believe there's already a topic on this somewhere, but I haven't really looked yet.

That Lurch guy is a tool and he got more and more awkward as his gooning went on..

I was there too and I felt the same way. I was more interested in the riders and their well being rather than getting a free shirt. I don't know how everyone else felt about it either since the whole stadium booed him.....and then he asked to get booed?

I was there also and couldn't believe Lurch- there are riders KO'd on the track and he was throwing t-shirts into the crowd. Very poor taste in an otherwise awesome night of racing.

That is completely classless. I hope he finds out what an ass he made of himself, and reins it in, cuz I don't want to get thrown out of a race for throwing shit back at Lurch.

I was there as well and yes it is weird but whoever is the "personality" on the mic has to do that so the crowd doesn't sit silent/get worked up.

I hope the two guys are doing ok/better...that was horrible

It's supercross, what do you expect? They don't give enough of a shit about the riders to pay them a decent sum for providing the actual show so why would they be concerned about them being injured? Just keep the crowd distracted, nothing to see here, now back to regular scheduled programming.

And, who's Terry boyd? Someone just showed their age.....as did a few of us others.Smile

Hope like hell everyone is okay from all the crashing last night.

I don't think you should blame lurch for doing what he was told in the headphone. It's the production and the promoter that told him to keep the crowd going.

Ain't that the truth.............

Bring out the Christains and the lions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand it's a show, but in some ways I think they've really gotten a bit carried away with this carnival.
You ask for corporate money...........................I give you the clueless and circus ring leaders.

Us oldschoolers knew it was gonna come to this........................the sport has been hi-jacked for Corp sponsorship money.

The big question is will Lurch show us all how tear-offs work ?

Stadium should go quiet in these cases.

It sucks that they did that.
I'm sure it would have made it harder on the medical personnel with all the screaming and music blaring.
Trying to communicate while attending to the downed riders with possible serious injuries.

You guys should go post this up on the Supercross Live Facebook page.
The people from Feld read it.

Not saying they don't read here also, but I think they are more attentive to that page.

Yeah, i am surprised by this... i always thought protocol was silence in respect to the fallen, followed by as a gesture of support as they leave the arena...

i say blame it on the TV .promoters most likely wanted the croud to stay upbeat for all the broadcasting that may take place.

He's been the live on-track supercross announcer for the last 20 years or so, give or take a few.

At a football game when someone's hurt you don't see the cheerleaders getting the crowd going. You show respect.

That makes a lot of sense. Doesn't Feld own the Ringling Bros Barnum and Bailey Circus? It seems like all this sport is to them is just another investment to make big $$$

That's probably pushed from the top. Went to a National Arenacross last night and it was literally an hour of shooting t-shirts into the crowd trying to get them to make noise and an hour and a half of racing.

Racing and track was really good, but the program and antics are just plain annoying.

allegedly, Terry Boyd once said "camel toe" which garnered all sorts of attention.

Luckily, it wasn't during rider nap time.

Lurch is clueless.

i announced at our local track for about 20 something years and the most difficult time i had was when we had a serious injury. i just did my best to beg the people to stay off the track so the emt's could do thier thing (we usually had about 50 or 75 people take to the track) , direct whatever class to line up next and misc administrative things while waiting for updates on my headseat. it was especially hard when it was determined that life flight needed to come on out. prayers going out to both riders from here.
